Subtle changes in move order can have huge effects. I like that in this version of the Wing Gambit, Black does not have the option of returning the pawn with ...b4-b3 to keep the a-file closed. And, as Igor emphasized, it's quite amazing how many natural moves do not work for Black.

I am often critical of these "crush your opponent with this opening" videos, as it usually ignores some rather obvious and perhaps common ways to avoid the worst outcomes, but I can truly see opponents making all the same mistakes in this one. It is definitely a variation I will be trying out in practice.
Give it a few weeks and Sicilian players will have it memorized as the Dumb Trap players spam it ad nauseum. I'm already seeing this line a fair bit. After this, I guess it'll be every other game 😪
Igor is just too popular. It is all very good training though. I think the important thing is that if you try any such traps, that your position is not compromised if they don't fall for it.@@kalias66
It's funny. I checked the e6 game with the computer, and Nc7 is a fine move for black, but only if they immediadly follow it up with d5. Nc6 and castles is the mistake that allows the sac. d5 and castles, and black can go dxc! and then Qd3! to cover h7 square. Fun stuff. But honestly just play Ne7, or don't castle under the queen? I think e6 kinda just refutes the whole thing if black plays normal moves instead of Nc7. Maybe just bail out with Nc3 and argue that a3 isn't the worst move ever.
Thank you Igor!! Could you do more videos on the Blackmar Diemer? A lot of the opponents I play against don't take the pawn sacrifice after Qxf3, what other ideas are there if they don't go down that line?
You’re forking the bishop on f5 and b2 pawn when you play Qxf3. Even if they don’t take the free pawn on c2 they don’t have many moves to play. Lets say they play the most popular move undeveloping the bishop back to home square you can long castle and push d5 opening the position. Worth noting is that if they play c6 after undeveloping their bishop you’ll have to take the f6 knight or the bishop will skewer your queen and rook. The position play themselves after you open it but if you want the full move then check out wgraif channel.
GM Igor, thank you for all you have done for the chess community ! At the 9:00 mark of your amazing video, why doesn't white simply play Ra8 to force the issue ?
I love the mengarini variation and the theory that goes with it. But it's all completely pointless because after 1. e4 c5 2. a3, Black never ever plays 2... Nc6. It's like Black doesn't even understand the basics of the opening they chose to play. (I'm around 1200.)
Tried this gambit in my first otb tournament yesterday. Result: 0 out of three. I was lucky to win all my black games with the trusted boring French opening. So I ended up at least scoring 3 out of 6 after losing all my white games against the Sicilian. My opponents just did not play the nice moves shown here. And I am not the tactic genius to find my way through this complicated opening once I am on my own. Never got the knight to b5, never got the pawn back, never got any tactical compensation, in one case against a 2050 player I even lost control over the center after having that huge bulwark there. My conclusion: this opening is just for tactical geniuses. Nothing for me. Just brings my rating down.
Anytime you play a new opening, you will play it badly because you don't have experience. Try it in a bunch of 5+5 or 10+15 games online to get the hang of it, and then you'll play it better achieving better results.

So this gambit includes stinging white attacks on the queenside, the center, and the kingside, sometimes all in the same game!

What are your thoughts on which side is preferable for this line: e4 c5 a3 e6 b4 cxb axb Nf6 e5 d5 b5. Can white still get a good attack?
Thank you,!

Mengarini Gambit once again❤
Those tricks are hilarious! 🤣
I appreciate this Tricky Gambit.😼
Hello, at 6:08 why wouldn’t black take the C2 pawn, threatening to take the bishop with check?
Ive watch the donel gambit, and it helps me focus, tho donel gambit is easy to counter its still fun to play.
Magic 😂!
Awesome!!!!
Very cool!
ah, the savage response to the sicilian I've been looking for!
Great. Good luck.
This is wild
Holy cats! That's cool. Cheers!
does anyone know how to get the ‘fritz’ theme that he used to use in his old videos?
Please cover 2....g6 and 2....d6 from black.
I face lots of players doing that scillian dragon thing and I've no idea what to do.

5:04 can't stop laughing after i saw Nxa7, Rxa7 Be3 lol 😅🤣😂 until Qxb5
And if don't take on b3? And play nf6?
I believe g6 is objecticely the best reply. It prevents b4, so you can just play an accelerated dragon where white wasted a move
PLEASE, show the lines where Black plays P-b6 after P-b4!
A real knightmare situation to deal with
If black play d6,what to do against it?
Great fun
That first game was fucking insane
All Hail Igor Smirnov
Great April Fools video. Also, the opening looks fun.
What if black's Bb7 captures white's Bb2 instead of recapturing white's Ng5?
the issue here is developing the queen's pawn and queen, losing a lot of tempo whilst white creates mating threats or tactics
8:54 I would play Ra8 to attract the rook and remove the defender of the c7 square
Levy played this opening against me and I lost that match.
I believe it’s what he recommends in his E4 course vs the Sicilian
Levy never fails to lean from the great Remote Chess Academy !
No he didnt
You lost to levy 😂
I think on the last example black bishop taking white bishop on a2 is winning for black instead going bg5
4:04 Qb6 doesn't just win the rook?
2...g6.
Wouldn't this suck vs g6 though (early dragon)
Honestly, if I was playing black I would just play d5 on move 2 and get the free center. 2.a3 just feels like a passive move
Hey y'all, just curious to see what elo everyone watching Igor is... I'm roughly 1300-1400
Ignore the gambit and play 2....e6 and 3....d5 . a3 is not a French defence move.
10:00 "f**k you, I said take my rook!"
4:04 am i missing something here? Why not qb6+
because the idea was to win by checkmate, not just win a rook
I think black has a superior Scandinavian if he plays 1.e4 c5 2.a3 d5
Today I lost from black in the same variation and so I am here
my friend plays this all the time. We call it “the goofy ahh gambit”
what about g6

Winner winner chicken dinner! This is a great variation Igor!!🫶🏼👊🏻🏆
73% of players take, me 3 games in a row where they don't haha. Sad days
4:20 but QxB. Wouldn't that be the better move here? QxB, QxQ, PxQ, RxR, so it would be a bishop and a pawn for a rook
I lost :(. my opponent just keep playing random moves(not bad move but unexpected)
