    I love all the thermoworks products. I was just chilling and watching my chargriller offset wondering if I could use my billows with it. Glad I stumbled upon your video. Gonna give it a try. Thanks man

      Thanks for watching! Yeah this works great on my large offset so as long as you have enough access to the damper where the billows attached you’re golden! You may need to add some aluminum tape like i did, which works to keep it to one airflow source. There’s a link in my bio for it and I believe they’re having a sale right now.

    Nice video. Have you ever tried using the Billows with only wood (no charcoal)?

    • @hooksrub
      @hooksrub  Місяць тому +1

      @@nordicwilly6650 hello thanks for the compliment. I believe I haven’t, but I have used charcoal as the base then only wood from then on out with the billows. It works great. It does stoke the wood fire constantly as needed, but it doesn’t go over temp in the cook chamber. You may find yourself adding more wood slightly more often or just larger wood splits.

    I had a Flameboss 500 kit. It worked but it couldn't get my grill over 228 with the fan running 100%. I" was looking at trying the billows next. User tip. it helps to mount your mounting bracket on the inside of your damper door so the west of the fan pull the plate against the door without falling off.

    • @hooksrub
      @hooksrub  3 роки тому

      Yep that’s just how I mounted mine. Since my smoker has two holes I chained in a second billows. I believe I have a link in the description to thermoworks for the billows. Let me know what you think of it when you start using it. Interesting info on that flameboss.

      How does it do on lower temperatures. I have an oklahoma Joe's and whenever I add my mini splits the temp jumps up 60-70 degrees and just stays there. I just cant seem to maintain lower temps when using logs.

    • @hooksrub
      @hooksrub  3 роки тому

      @@matthewwarren7879 it does well on lower temps. When adding those logs it’s definitely going to jump in temp, but should level back off after a while. Do you keep the door open/cracked when you put the logs on until they catch fire and calm down? That may be helpful. Let me know what you think. Thanks for the comment and question.

    Just used billows for the first time. I love it. But you can probably rig something up way cheaper. That being said I have a big cabinet style smoker and it did great did 10 slabs and loin. Keep it above your desired teml until it hits said temp. Then I'd keep it set 10 degrees above desired temp was what worked for me

      Thanks for watching Dale and great feedback. I know there are other blowers on the market and haven’t used any of them. Have you? I’d be interested to know. I have had a cabinet smoker in the past and it has worked well. That was before this billows. I have not used it on my kettles, but have on a drum and also my large offset. It hasn’t failed me yet. It keeps my temps within the range I’ve set it on. The cabinet I had was amazing, but did have deficiencies when it came to wind blowing into the exhaust vents on the side. Mine was gas assisted, so definitely not a charcoal version. I bet your slabs and loins came out tasty!

    How’s the blower running. Curious how it’s holding up after a year or two. Thanks for the awesome video. Rare to see someone hooking it up to an offset. Actually…might be the only video. Thanks man!

      Thanks for the comment and the question! The billows is still working and holding temps well. The only thing I’ve had to get replaced is the connector cable from the billows to power supply and once the power brick. Thermoworks has been great to send out a replacement without a fee. Honestly, the connectors are usb-c so I could easily find it in a department store. I have used the Billows and single or chained in double with the Smoke X4 and also the Signals. It works perfectly on my offset and also I have used on a drum smoker with great results. My buddy has a 250 gallon offset and got a special adapter made for his billows and he can cook using that thing for hours on end.

      Thank you so much for watching & for the compliment! I love the offset and the billows. I actually added in a second billows to give even better air flow and control. Works like a charm!

    Just the video I wanted to see! How was it maintaining the actual set temp?

    • @hooksrub
      @hooksrub  3 роки тому +2

      Hey thank you so much for watching! So far it’s holding up very well. I’ve used it multiple times on my offset and it has done well by itself to maintain temps. Where I set this up on my offset has a vent hole to the left, but there is also a hole on the right. It’s a 2ft x 2ft firebox. That right side charcoal was not getting enough airflow from the single Billows, so I ordered a second Billows and chained them together to get the airflow throughout and it is amazing. Holding temps just the same within 5-10 degrees and the fuel burns consistently. I have used a minion basket, the snake method and also just lumping the coals in the middle of the box and all methods have similar temp and ‘time to top off’ results. It’s a great product as is, but if you have a larger offset I’d recommend either adding a second to chain together or place the billows in a central vent/location for the most efficient airflow throughout the firebox. What are you cooking on?

      My issue is I have to close the stack almost all the way and tell the billows to really get after it so I can make sure it’s always blowing. It seems to want to get to temp and then choke off the fire so I’m always either putting less fuel in and telling it to hit an impossible temp or I’m cracking the firebox lid open to get it to keep blowing. Anyone else have that issue. I hope I’m explaining it well enough.

    What power supply is that?

    • @hooksrub
      @hooksrub  2 роки тому

      Hey Eric, thanks for watching. The power supply I used is a 100 watt hour portable battery pack called the sherpa 100 from Goal Zero. There are tons of other options that will run the Billows that are a bit less expensive. The issue is, I found that I had to use the AC power port to make sure the Billows had a continual access to power. The USB ports, while also supplying power, turns off if there is a certain amount of time where the power draw was not a certain wattage. It basically automatically shuts off the ports in the times the Billows goes for too long without drawing power with it’s fan. This is not a limitation of the Billows, but more of a setting programmed into the Sherpa. The great thing is that the Billows doesn’t draw much wattage when it does power on. I recommend the AC port on this device, a USB port on any other device or the wall plug at your house.

      @@hooksrub interesting thanks for the info. I noticed also that the Signals doesn't auto negotiate USB PD, and most supplies default to 5V. So you either need a PD trigger board or something that you can manually output 12V. Also one like you mentioned that stays on even with little to no draw.

      Thanks for watching. I like to take the membrane off. Can still keep the ribs intact, but if they fall off the bone, I still chop it up and eat it 😂 also great for tacos and quesadillas. Many ways to eat and cook a rib 🤔
