I just ordered a Fireboard 2 Drive as a replacement for a Gravity 980, in order to have the on the go app control and lower smoking temps. If it goes well, me and a buddy are going to build a heavy duty gravity fed smoker that uses a fireboard and fan.
So glad to see someone with an almost exact technology match to my smoke setup. I have the FireBoard 2 drive and the same fan and bulkhead adapter…I even mounted it in the same place you did! The problem is…when the fan turns on the ambient heat drops instead of increases. The firebox is sealed and all closed up. The fire blazes when the fan turns on but the heat is pulling a Houdidni. I’m only using wood (no charcoal). Can you offer some advice?
You may need to close down on the stack vent a lot more than normal. The fan can push the heat out of the system too fast. You may be surprised how much you need to close it. Good luck
The included directions for the pit bull recommend installing the fan to blow between the grate and the bottom of the firebox. I see you’ve installed it higher up to essentially point at the fire. I use a basket - should I install it so the air is blowing directly at the fire or under it as the instructions suggest?
I’m not using a bottom grate. I’ve lined the lower part of the fire box with fire bricks and the wood sits directly on top of the bricks. Since you are using a grate, I would stick with the instructions. Thanks for watching & good luck.
One fan is plenty for my smoker, but it’s not a large pit. I actually installed the adapter off center, so I could add a second fan if needed. You could call :customerservice@thebbqguru.com@ 1-888-223-6118 and I’m confident that they could steer you in the right direction Thanks for watching and let me know how that build turns out.
I like the torch cart!
This is a great video. No nonsense just good information.
Thanks for your feedback.
What a cool setup. Great channel Paw Daddy!
Thank you
