    Great video, I really appreciate your research and testing. What's really handy here in determining fakes is you mentioned the weight discrepancy between real vs knockoff batteries and listed the weights for real batteries. Thanks again for your excellent work!

    these counterfeits are suspiciously alike the OE... it's sometimes not even apparemt at all, but only possible to tell through weighting, measuring, testing. Microscopes can help.. or an old phone with 4k camera and great zoom.. pixel, galaxy, iphone etc

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  2 місяці тому

      Yep its actually scary to think people are buying these thinking they are OEM.

    Some of the fake cells may be from recovered devices being given a second life. Would be interesting to see if the voltage drop is on the actual cells of it it is across those solder joints. Presumably overall life of the battery pack will also be less than the OEM one.

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  2 місяці тому

      Never thought of that, would be a cheap and effective way or reusing cells. Yeah I bet a good amount of the drop is from those joints..

  • @elliotkane4443
    @elliotkane4443 3 місяці тому +1

    I think the solder joints on these will eventually either short out or go open circuit. Probably the first time you drop it or bang it on something.
    I wonder if you're running a fire risk when charging these?
    Not with the risk and the mucking around.

    • @Tools-Tested

    Well, I had that with Makita Batteries. Looked like originals and described as original Makita.

      Yep another common counterfeit sadly.

    70% of promised capacity? That’s way better than the M12 knockoff batteries I’ve tested. They tended to be more like 40% of promised spec.
    Looks like counterfeits are better than knockoffs :)

      Yeah I was shocked they did so well compared to OEM, yeah seems they put more work into these.

    Dude awesome video! Sad I couldn’t really see the side by side of the 8AH but still awesome video. Can’t thank you enough for this as even though I’m aware of the impressive counterfeiters, I probably would’ve fallen victim to some of these. If Milwaukee didn’t price their batteries so absurdly high, I think it’s likely these counterfeits wouldn’t be such a big problem.

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  2 місяці тому

      Thanks, yeah sorry part of that was out of frame. Yep because of the high prices it allows counterfeits to come in.

      @@Tools-Tested I’ve ordered several batteries from “the source” who recently changed to “way source” horrible name, but all of their stuff seems to be real. Have you any experience with them?

    • @2down4up
      @2down4up 2 місяці тому

      @@Tools-Tested They used to be hard to find because “the source” was the name of a much bigger company that always came up first in your search engine of choice. Probably why they changed the name to something as horrible as “Way Source.” Sometimes they advertise the battery prices up front and other times you’ve gotta put the battery in the cart to see the price. Regardless their prices often seem too good to be true. Anyways, you’ll know you’ve got the right company when they have this as an address.

    I usually buy the fake ones for heated hoodies, or for a drill that's just used for screws.

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  2 місяці тому

      I wouldn't think so, but without testing though its hard to say. Corded probably beats all of the 12v versions.

    Good topic. Did you intend to buy the counterfeit batteries or did it start out as an accident? To find them, was it an educated guess based upon the seller?

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  2 місяці тому

      Yeah I intended on buying counterfeit, I looked for products being sold out of California and then checked the location of the seller on the about page, looking for China.
      Amazon was a shock though, hard to tell with them bc the products are shipped to Amazon.

      @@Tools-Testedproblem is you can trust any of them anymore. I openly saw fake JBL Bluetooth speakers being sold on eBay and I contacted eBay on each one and their lazy ss never took any of the listings down and they sold to other people getting ripped off. I had to research a speaker and cancel my bid near the last minute when I did more research. I could have been stuck. You even hear about counterfeit spark plugs being sold on Amazon, even that cheap of a product

    I’m curious why Milwaukee can’t meet their capacity advertised. I’ve tested a few myself and this has been my experience as well.

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  2 місяці тому +1

      I haven't checked, but it might be because of lower cut off voltage when charging vs the cells actual capacity.

    • @darthtater
      @darthtater 2 місяці тому

      @@Tools-Tested I’d suspect that Milwaukee is playing market games and is as you suggested, adjusting cut off voltages so that the batteries don’t reach their full capacity. I’d be curious if the other big player’s batteries can pull their advertised capacity.
