I just found this channel and I am enjoying the video. I live in Martinsburg, WV, and I have grown paw paws for about ten years, and just this spring I discovered native persimmon, so I am adding them to my collection of native trees. I am trying to put together a quarter-acre of land that focuses on native fruits and permaculture.

NC-1 was introduced by Doug Campbell from Ontario, Canada in 1976. 🙂

I bought two seedlings about 8 years ago with one dying>its maybe 3 ft tall which was a cutting>>>I started 20 seeds that winter in the house in a laundry basket and they germinated iall 20 seeds > over winter>>I put them out in 2017 spring of>planted the whole batch together in the same hole>>They are every bit 8 ft tall...That cutting still sits at 3 ft>planted alone>>obviously there was no cold stratification with the seeds as i germinated them INSIDE with 70 degrees all winter long

What are the most cold hearty pawpaw varieties.

Hi again! Patrick says: I don’t know of any research focused on cold hardiness among pawpaw cultivars. In general, pawpaw is considered hardy throughout zone 5. I suspect that this applies to all the commonly available cultivars.

Attempting a pawpaw grove in upstate NY. Thinking of establishing near the chicken coop for better pollination. Any downsides if it near enough to get excess nitrogen from the chickens?

Hi there! Thank you SO MUCh for your question! Here's what Patrick has to say: My main concern would be potential food safety risks if there is runoff from the chicken coop into the pawpaw orchard. Granted, pawpaw fruit are born on the tree, so this risk would not be at the level of a low growing crop, but it is still there.

Is it normal for all tree's to be sold out ?

Wouldn't say it's normal, but sometimes it takes a few calls to local plant supply companies to find one.

I noticed they were out a few times during the year, and then came back into stock at stark bros and one green world.
