  • Kronos Lead (www.westcountry...) based in Frome, England carry out the now relatively rare sand-cast lead manufacturing process.
    Chill Factory Productions (www.chillfactor...) exhibits their full leadwork process - how old used lead is melted down and reformed into brand new rolls of lead sheet, which are exported for use primarily in roofing.

    Having recovered and melted down some 4,000 pounds avoir. of bullet lead, and as a former metallurgical technician, could totally do this kind of work! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    Man, I don't think you could even have a conversation about this here (in the USA), much less find people who knew enough about casting and sand. It was something to see the whole sheet freeze in a few seconds. I'd like to see this in person!

    I'm imagining a "Whose on first" situation:
    "Where are you from?"
    "Frome."
    "That's what I'm asking, where are you from?"
    "Frome."

      I expect theres a very nice lucrative little earner for the people who supervise renovation of listed buildings. Probably specify this hand produced product in preference to mass produced equivalent, because 1/its "in keeping"with the original method and 2/because it most likely is colossally more expensive. Those middle clarse idiots LOVE spending other peoples money.

      So it doesn't stick, has a surface to cool on, and doesnt get any impurities

    • @Paiadakine
      @Paiadakine 4 роки тому

      ert wert why not pout it on to a sheet of steel. Lead melts at a lower temp than lead and can be polished to a mirror finish?
      This must be a very traditional way of making lead sheets for a specific purpose.
