    this is absolutely what NOT to do for socket replacements, it sure does look fast but it could easily damage the surrounding component without heat resistent tape.

    At what temperature was the reworkstation set to for removal?

  • @94rainbowx33
    @94rainbowx33 10 років тому

    Using an heatgun is just to OP you may remove some really small parts like resistors and capacitors, get a good soldering iron with a proper tip add some flux on an small length of soldering wick, place it on the pad and gently heat it, it's will suck the solder.

    WARNING if you put a port on like this from the top with just hot air you will melt the inside of the port 99% of the time. Best to wick all old solder off and use a ion to install the new one

    • @Adolphik
      @Adolphik 8 років тому +2

      If you use the right temperature it should not.
      In my case one of the pins inside the port broke, not the solder, so i didn't replace the solder.
      This port sits firmly in 4 holes, so usb pins aren't put on stress like in different devices.
      Also you need to be very careful if you got small components nearby, as they may move as you heat thing up :)

    • @AndreLuiz-ip3fh
      @AndreLuiz-ip3fh 8 років тому +2

      yeah. and shield the other components with tape or alluminun foil, on the board. you can blow that little resistors.

    Dude, that was just a simple re-flow job. You need to show them how to clean up the old solder and apply new solder. This is kind of a half-ass method; I will admit that it will usually work as a temporary fix, but eventually you will need to apply new solder.

    • @cambium0
      @cambium0 9 років тому

      Todd Richmond I think it's best for the novice. I followed another tutorial that did as you suggest, and I ended up messing up the tracks when I couldn't really resolder each of the five pins. it charges, but no data. I got the nexus 7 brand new, used it every day all day for a year and a half, charge port problems arose. A 'reflow' would have given me probably another year then I'm done with that tablet anyway.
      Also, I think what had gone wrong with my original port was that the pins lost contact with the tracks. So I probably could have used the same port (though it was really loose and a new one would have been nice), remove it and bent the pins downward some, then reflowed it back.

    If you do like this internal plastic parts in Charger port will be damaged

  • @FirekraqurNetherworld
    @FirekraqurNetherworld 7 років тому

    I watched this before, but it came up while I was looking up a charge port repair so I watched it again.
    I like how the plastic comes bubbling out the back of the port @ 1:34 that he just scrapes away with the tweezers. To much heat. I would have just removed the old solder and put it back on the the trusty iron. They sit better and stay on longer that way and you don't risk melting the inside of the port or overheating the board.

    Que cagada... Não isolou a placa com fita kapton, a fita evita que a placa receba calor, para que não haja mais danos ao aparelho. E outra, só trocou o conector né, funcionar não vai !! Pois o conector novo não pode ser posto deste modo,pois o mesmo possui peça plástica em seu interior, e quando o calor é exposto a peça, ela simplesmente derrete. O vídeo é um coco, mas a intenção foi boa !
