Just found this video and your channel and I love it! Love the drawn aspect of an otherwise pixely artwork. Can't wait to see what more comes to your mind. I am in progress of making my own Mario fangame using a level editor with awesome programming capabilities, but unlike that you did this all from scratch without any default features and you had to draw the graphics and program everything. Great work.

Something that I noticed with the fish bones (I think that's what they are called) is that in the games they actually left to right and when they get neer you they chase you in a straight line but only go in that direction. Search them up and add super mario maker because that will show you an accurate version.

Since there are no blocks in underwater, Nintendo wants to hide the fact that you can't hit question mark blocks underwater.
You could add the Blue Shell from New Super Mario Bros that could be fun power up to use in the game
Hahah true, that could be pretty fun... and infuriating? I'm thinking of the one from Mariokart :P
@@icoso actually, the blue shell is a powerup that when you go left/right and run, you turn into a koopa shell

the spiky cheep cheeps are a copy of that one fish that sleeps in super mario world, that if you wake them up, they will start following you. but if you have the start powerup they do the opposite.
this is an amazing series, i want to play this badly! i love the fact that it's just cartoony and not pixel art, that is very nice and it gives you a break from the pixel art of regular super mario
also i want luigi, if that doesnt take too long to program in

Looking good! One thing I noticed (that nobody else seems to have pointed out yet) is that in the original, you can't change direction without pressing the jump button, unless you are on the ground. The water physics are repurposed from Balloon Fight, if that helps.

Maybe you could make specifically modern colored and OG SMB colored enemies, blocks etc. as different versions (i kinda suggested that but idk if that comment even counts)

Here are some ideas to inspire you:
fludd powerup that once you run out of water dissapears
New level themes
A secret troll level that is either way too hard or way too boring
Warp Zones in more themes then just the underground(possibly also different methods of warping like paintings and portals and secret level rings)

I once had this multi-game cart for the original NES and it had this version of SMB1 where instead of jumping you could swim through all the levels (even the non-water levels)

some enemies have inaccurate behaviors compared to the original game (such as blooper and dry fish).
i think the blooper doesnt need to be at the same y coordinate as mario to make a hop. you said it yourself that it wasn't exactly the same as your game.

Keep in mind that the bone fish always move in straight lines
If you add a another Fish you should add Big Bertha it has 2 versions
when underwater it swims left and right but when it detects Mario it does a small dash towards him with its mouth open with a small wind box that sucks Mario towards it’s mouth to try and eat him, if Mario gets eaten he instantly dies unless he has the star power which will instead kill Bertha
If you are in a level with someone water at the bottom of the screen then Big Bertha will swim left a right at the waters surface and when it detects Mario it jumps out of the water with it’s mouth open (no wind box) and tries to eat him and then lands in the water if Mario gets eaten he instantly dies unless he has the star power which will instead kill Bertha

Do you mean the same colours or same functionality? I don't believe they changed colours in the original game, but I can definitely take another look ^^
