You must be a really thoughtful owner. Many owners don't realise how intimidating dogs can be. As someone who has now beaten severe cynophobia, I wish I'd learned this stuff sooner! I didn't even know that dogs just sniff to say hello. They're actually being polite!! Nice video! 🙂

I want nothing to do with dogs and just want them to ignore me and leave me alone. Dogs who jump up, lick you stick their noses in yr crutch! Sickening space invaders. And ones who bark and carry on like they want to rip your head off when you just walk past! Paranoid psychos. This vid sadly gave no advice on how to get them to ignore me. Assumed one actually wants to meet a dog. And. good lord, how nuts would someone be to lean over or put their face or hand down at a dog's mouth level! UGH. But useful to know not to make eye contact with them, a good start to avoid any contact with them. But the advice here is just to let it come to me. No thanks.

@@newgabe09 I sympathise, as I used to feel much the same. Probably worse, actually, because I was severely phobic for years. I'm now a happy dog-owner, and I do try to be considerate of others around us, who may not like dogs at all. 🙂

i made the mistake of #2 with a pitbull about 10 years back. Still have the scar on my upper lip from where he nipped me. It shook me a little, but the dog was not aggressive. He just wanted me to be out of his face. "I don't know you, get out of mah space hooman!"

I think it’s because I made direct eye contact and then pointed and I think it confused the dog and he thought it was a threat. I was scared for a little while but in the past years I’ve been around so many dog trainers and dog lovers so I’ve been opening back up and I just wanna understand. Thanks again

I have this problem with people, when I go out with my dog, (many times a day) she is an anxious dog, she's had a difficult past and we have been loving her for almost 10 weeks now. So, I don't have time to educate everybody I meet. And it gets me upset sometimes how stupid and ignorant people are. It never happened to me once to have kids runing towards the dog. Most of the time people ask permission to let their kids pet and I decline because we don't even pet her. We let her decide when she is ready. But adults react in the most stupid way! I had a guy shouting agressively to his kids because they wanted to come meet me and the dog. I paused, and I genlty told the kids '' this is a scared dog, she is not used to be pet and we need to leave her alone'' They understood right away and replied that their dong was not like that to witch I replied ''that's great'' In reality I saw the mom pull the leash to the dog and make hime turn around as he was growling...haha. So I was trying to go trhough because they sort of invaded the space, and as I did that, the guy started to act like '' oh my god, look at this dog pulling..'' She was trying to run away from him. So I turned aroud and told him: ''I don't see how shouting madly at your kids and the dogs is making this situation better!'' i also had people forcing her to stay close to them to let her know its ok by pulling the leash and make her go to a state of freeezing. My brother in law did that. I always refuse to people the right to do that, but some guys just go ahead and get quikly into motion. People would say they are ignorant. I would say they are stupid and lile to impose themself to others.

I'm afraid of dogs NOW.. Just today I made a terrifying experience while I was jogging in the park, the dog wasn't on the leash, he ran to me, barking and showing his teeth, he didn't bite me but I was so scared that I started crying. The owner said that he usually doesn't do that, well he just did it so put him on the leash!!!! Lots of owners don't have idea wat it means like being afraid of dogs (especially when they're not on the leash). Someone should teach them how to get their dogs ready to meet strangers (or at least to walk by) without being aggressive!! It's just horrifying!!!!

      @VikingSingers 6 років тому +5

SMERSH009X you’ll know when you can pet them :) let them sniff you and get to know you. When the dog licks or wags their tail, it’s a good sign you can pet them. As said in the video, don’t reach over his head to pet or it will feel threatened/defensive. I normally go from the side and pet the ear or pet the back. Don’t do it rough. The main thing when you’re petting another dog is to look for signals of uncomfortableness! Such as when a dog freezes, starts panting but his tongue is in his mouth (anxious), tucks tail, etc. Hope this helps :)

While walking my dog, a man wanted to approach my dog and he held out his hand. My dog did not come to him. We saw the man on and off for several weeks during our walks and the man did the same thing. However, today when the man held out his hand , the dog did not respond, the man started to walk away, the dog snapped at the man's pant leg? Is this because the dog thought the man was in the dog's personal space? Is this because the movement of the man so close to to the dog threatened the dog? Why do you think this happened? What can we so that man can pet the dog?

When my daughter came over to my house to stay for a few days, we asked her to walk the dog on a leash and everything seemed ok. Then, one day when my daughter and I were sitting on the couch talking, the dog came into the room, sniffed me and then walked over to my daughter sniffed her and attacked her. I noticed the same behavior when my husband, my uncle, and my nephew were standing and talking in our house. The dog came over sniffed my husband, then sniffed my uncle whom the dog knew already, and then sniffed my nephew and attacked my nephew. What do you think caused this behavior and how can we prevent it so that my daughter and nephew can come over and visit?

The better thing to do is ask the owner if you can say "hi" to their dog. Most dog owners love their dog and love hearing how beautiful/wonderful their dog is. I always liked having my boxer meet people because she was so happy to make new friends. She especially liked kids. The tips in this video don't just apply to approaching strangers' dogs. They also apply to going to someone's home who has a dog.

Doug H. in VA, exactly. I cannot take my reactive dog in public anymore. Too many people approach him and nothing helps. He cannot cope correctly due to lack of socialisation and if people come close or bring their dogs over to interact he will try to lunge at them which I will end up getting a bad reputation for. So therefor PLEASE!!! Do not approach dogs without asking from a distance. I can’t even wear a red caution vest because people come close to check what it says.

And if you really want to pet them PLEASE AS THE OWNER FIRSTTTTTT(unless the dog approaches you. My dog is very friendly and he sometimes approaches people so I don’t mind when they pet him)

I'm not an expert but this happens to me sometimes. If it's at a distance, I go inside. If I can't go inside, I ignore it like it's not a big deal and go about my business. Often it leaves me alone. If it comes up to me, I calmly stop and do the non-threatening stance shown in this video and use an upbeat, calm, gentle tone to say hello and tell the dog a few times what a good dog it is, how it's nice to meet it, and just let it sniff me without trying to pet it. And then either it walks away or I calmly amble away. So far that has worked every time. Fingers crossed it continues to!

Yahshua - you know Him as Jesus - was born to a virgin, turned water to wine, taught, healed the sick, raised the dead, casted out demons, walked on water, calmed the storm, and fed a crowd of thousands with a few fish and a few loaves of bread, among many other things. He was killed on the cross as payment for the sins of all mankind, three days later He rose from the dead. Forty days later He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father. He is returning very soon, but before He does, Satan, the devil, is coming to pretend to be Jesus/God (2 Thessalonians 2:1-4). Satan is an angel, and he will have certain supernatural powers with which to try to fool everyone. He will, for example, be able to make fire come down from heaven in the sight of men. He will only be on earth a short time before the real King of Kings, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, returns. When the real Jesus comes we will all be transformed into our spiritual bodies at the same moment. Jesus came in the flesh to offer forgiveness of sins and eternal life to anyone who believes and calls on His precious name!
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. - Romans 10:9
Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat. But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. - Matthew 26:6-13
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
To anoint your self, the sick, or a building for spiritual protection:
Get a small bottle of olive oil and pour off a small amount into a smaller vessel like a vial or baby food jar. Use the rest of the bottle for cooking. Ask the Lord to bless your vial of oil in Jesus name. Anoint yourself with the oil by placing a dab of oil on tip of finger and touch it to your forehead, and ask the Lord to bless you/heal you. Place a dab of oil on your finger and anoint the door posts and order all negativity and evil out of the house, and order that nothing negative or evil can enter into your home including piggybacking on a person entering, order it to be so in the name of Jesus. Anoint all potential entrances to your home. To anoint the sick, place oil on tip of finger and touch it to the head of the sick and say a prayer of healing over them in Jesus name. See James Chapter 5:14-15.

Non-Southerner: This video is awesome! I learned so much!
Southerner: You forgot to squat down to make yourself more approachable, also dogs are like humans blah blah blah you need atleast 6 dogs and 30 guns to make your home secure. I'm disliking this video because of your Yankee accent and because you didn't include a pack of wild dogs which you tamed.
