Just a note to say the Martello towers were built to protect against the French. Guernsey has sided with the English crown since the 13th century, as part of Normandy guernsey actually invaded England. Although guernsey sided with the parliamentarians in the English Civil War. Anyway yeh Sarnia Cherie

Fantastic representation of our beautiful island Alex, but there is so much more to the Bailiwick of Guernsey as we have idyllic other islands too, like Herm, with no cars or even bikes. The amazing Sark, again no cars but tractors, bikes and horse-drawn carriages (a real step back in time). Also the tiny island of Lihou, which is only accessible at low tide via a causeway. Alderney too with stunning natural beauty.
Please come back soon to be amazed? 👍💖😎

Alex Outhwaite thank you, we are rightfully proud of our ‘Sarnia Cherie’ Gem of the Sea
(Sarnia is the old Latin name)
      Our unofficial national anthem:
Sarnia; dear Homeland, Gem of the sea.
Island of beauty, my heart longs for thee.
Thy voice calls me ever, in waking, or sleep,
Till my soul cries with anguish, my eyes ache to weep.
In fancy I see thee, again as of yore,
Thy verdure clad hills and thy wave beaten shore.
Thy rock sheltered bays, ah; of all thou art best,
I'm returning to greet thee, dear island of rest.
      CHORUS
Sarnia Cherie. Gem of the sea.
Home of my childhood, my heart longs for thee.
Thy voice calls me ever, forget thee I'll never,
      Island of beauty. Sarnia Cherie.
I left thee in anger, I knew not thy worth.
Journeyed afar, to the ends of the earth.
Was told of far countries, the heav'n of the bold,
Where the soil gave up diamonds, silver and gold.
The sun always shone, and "race" took no part,
But thy cry always reached me, its pain wrenched my heart.
So I'm coming home, thou of all art the best.
Returning to greet thee, dear island of rest.
      CHORUS

Tikendra Singh ok, since you are not from Guernsey , living accommodation will cost quite a lot so you need to sort out that, I would suggest looking for a place near st Peters Port because that is where the majority of jobs are. What I would recommend is going on Job Centre-States of Guernsey to see openings once this whole quarantine thing is sorted out because most businesses are closed currently. Once quarantine is over and you have found something, book a holiday cottage or air B and B (sorry if I spelt it wrong ) and stay there for the interviews. It won't matter where your staying, because everything on the island is a 30 minute drive maximum. You can easily take the bus which is cheap or hire a rental car from the airport. If you wanted to stay in a holiday cottage, you would have to book quite far in advance because the fill up quick but there are always plenty of air B and B available. Once you are there though, to make the most of your trip I recommend going on the beaches since they are always quiet and great for rock pooling, Aladins Cave if you want to buy something (it's the biggest shop in Guernsey) and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants, especially in St Peters Port. I hope this helped and good luck 🙂

I went here already aged 37 flying from St Brieuc just 60 miles south.
And even before landing I just thought by watching the islands from the large windows of the Aurigny trislander, how on Earth hadn't I come here before.??
    It was in 1997.
And ironically 27 years before I had had the opportunity with my sister to fly from St Brieuc to Jersey via Dinard.
My mother, teacher in a primary school couldn't profit from the day trip she had won in June 1970.

We actually introduced pound coins in Guernsey before the UK did, back in 1981. It was a novelty for people in the UK to see a pound coin, when I showed them a Guernsey £1 coin. But the UK withdrew its pound notes from circulation in 1988, whereas we have kept them in Guernsey as well as the coins.

Good stuff. Loved Guernsey, my great great grandmother came from Guernsey. She and her parents moved to Australia in the mid 1800s.
We saw their former house in "The Pollet" (now a Tapas Bar) and the graves of ancestors and relatives in The Vale cemetery.
Nice video, good colour. What are you using, Alex, OSMO original or Pocket or something else ?
Did you guys shoot your own drone aerials , they looked great.

First as you can see I’m not from here but I’m living here for 18 years and I love this place. Very nice environment and very safe relaxed friendly. When you talking about the price of the rent or to buy a Properties here we have local market and open market. That right it’s very expensive for outsiders because if the island let everyone come and living here it will destroy everything what you can see in this video. Will build and build the houses tall buildings and don’t forget Guernsey very small island will end up like Living in small room! with so many people! For local living here they can’t build anything in the green zone the government very strict about that. The cost of living here is inexpensive if you compare to others cities. quality of life is much better . I have been living in Hong Kong even my hometown Bangkok I don’t like it at all. So busy Loud noise very day life is Exhausted. Some people said is boring, it might be if you are a city person like to go out at night or want to do a lot of activity because over here Are limited. The island have nature sea beaches cliff walking ,History of war the best thing is Guernsey have a very fresh air!😆😆😆😂😂😂

I have been in Guernsey with my family we came there by a cruise ship a few years ago in summer.Everything was so beatiful and the castle was pretty fine ... At the end of our time there i was feeding pigeons peacefully then a boy around my age(teen) showed up with his skateboard (his hair was blonde and his eyes were blue or green i guess because i didnt look his face directly)as he passing me he said "Hi" and winked at me?XD And he sat down of the opposite bench with (his friends?)And he didn't stop staring at me.. I wasn't expecting such a thing like this xDD ı was really suprised as a foreign girl lol...
At that moment i be like in inside 😳 wut the- and my dad who saw that scene was like 👁️👄👁️
(I wonder what is he doing now also i am curious of if i go Guernsey again would he remember me 😹🙈)

We used the buses on Guernsey quite a lot 3 weeks ago. Very cheap, didnt pay more then £2. Roads are VERY narrow for the buses though. Cars are forced to drive onto the pavement to get round them.
