    I still can't believe anyone thinks Blackfish an an actual documentary. I'd ask everyone to look up the facts on how incredible Seaworld is and has been to a wide variety of species. The good that they do is incredible and the amount of sea life that they've saved is second to none. Also, on a side note, getting my Seaworld annual pass tomorrow. Can't wait! Will comment the Disney World pass perfectly. Now to wonder if I really want Universal... Hmmm.

      The sea life that they have saved does not account for the countless orcas and other sea life that have died in their captivity as entertainment slaves to us. They do not release animals, like other wildlife rehabilitation centers; they keep all the sea life. If they truly wanted their animals to be healthy and live normally, they would release them into the water. Sea world is not the happy protector of wildlife that is seems. It raises animals for entertainment, then they die young in the institution's care.

      Oh, so when did I say it was?
      I was correcting false information, nothing more and nothing less.
      Furthermore, it was in the SIXTIES, it was the first whale that ever traveled in an airplane, it was the fourth killer whale ever captured.
      Now, fifty years later, they are outliving wild whales, and Corky has lived in human care for 47 years.

    The young orcas in this video are already showing the early signs of dorsal fin collapse. These animals require large expanses of water to quickly swim through to allow water to flow past on both sides of their dorsal fin to keep it up straight. There isn't a man made aquarium on earth that can ever provide these necessary conditions.
    This species has also evolved over many centuries in the wild and developed highly effective survival skills. These skills will become redundant and even lost in the orca that are bred in Sea World and which have become totally dependent on their trainers.
    Before you go to Sea World please consider some of these issues.

      ***** Do you just make stuff up as you go along? Ramu was in San Diego and died at the ripe old age of 15 - 20 years old. Ramu aka Winston, did not die of old age. You claim these illnesses are beyond SeaWorlds control. That's a lie. Orca's are not dying left and right of these illnesses at such young ages in the wild. Keeping them in captivity, and whatever specific failures in their care, is killing them very young of illnesses. That is 100% the fault of SeaWorld. I think you are confusing TRYING to care for animals and actually caring for the animals. They are trying to keep the animals alive in captivity, that's in the best interest of SeaWorld money interests. The best care for these animals would be to not have them in captivity at all, and SeaWorld obviously fails miserably.

    The way those ways are treated is something that I will never want to be a part of. They should be ashamed. Look at those dorsal fins, they are not supposed to bend like that. That is prof that they are mistreated. They are miserable in there. They should be free.

    • @oneocean111
      @oneocean111 10 років тому +3

      Do you even know what the dorsal fin is made of? It's nothing but pure cartilage, no bone or anything to support it. Due to the fact these animals stay around the surface the majority of the time their fins are going to drop down because of gravity. Wild orcas don't stay above water for that long, so their fins aren't as bent. It has nothing to do with the way they are treated or their health and well being. Setting them free will be very harmful to their health and well being. This animal is used to constant temperature, and clean water all the time. Putting an animal that is used to that in the ocean will only harm them, not help them. They could ultimately die in the ocean, especially they ones born in captivity. Please do your research before ranting about something that ultimately makes you look ignorant. Watching blackfish doesn't count, because that movies is nothing but misleading claims and a propaganda itself.

    • @ryanellis9892
      @ryanellis9892 10 років тому +2

      oneocean111 SeaWorld has been busted lying about bent dorsal fins in captivity compared to the wild. I think you are missing the correlation between the health and well being of these animals and their dorsal fins. Their bent dorsal fins have everything to do with the way they are being treated and cared for. They are in an unnatural habitat, which is the cause for this. Putting these animals in small tanks is mistreating them, and their being in small tanks is why their dorsal fins collapse.

    • @oneocean111
      @oneocean111 10 років тому +2

      Ryan Ellis
      Actually that is not at all what happens. Naomi Rose said herself that the dorsal fin collapse has nothing to do with their health or well being, only gravity and surface time. Orcas cannot control their dorsal fin, so how do you expect that to be any indication of something bad or good? The orcas at SeaWorld are given the best care they could possibly receive. Dawn wouldn't have worked at SeaWorld for 15 years if she thought the orcas were being mistreated. If you are getting your information from blackfish, then you know nothing about orcas or SeaWorld's care from animals. Blackfish was propaganda, they played with your emotions to get you to think like they do.

    • @ryanellis9892
      @ryanellis9892 10 років тому +3

      oneocean111 I haven't said a thing about Blackfish. That's kind of the "catch all" label to try and discredit anyone who thinks mistreating orcas is wrong? I explained VERY clearly in my comment about the dorsal fin and how that relates to these animals being mistreated. As for their care, I'll repeat another comment I posted above.... 60+ orcas have died at SeaWorld.... not a single one from old age. Yes, an orca has never died of old age at SeaWorld. Now, I don't know how you define "good care" - but I think death qualifies as "bad care."

    • @oneocean111
      @oneocean111 10 років тому +1

      Ryan Ellis The blackfish reference wasn't aimed towards you, but to those who come across this discussion who's only knowledge is blackfish. If that second part is so, how do you explain the orca in san diego reaching 50 years and the others who are in the 40's, 30's, 20's and so on? On average, average being the keyword, sure the survival rate is lower, this is because SeaWorld did not have to technology to meet the orca's standard of living. SeaWorld's orcas now are living as long as their ecotype wild counterpart. Ecotype is also the key word.

  • @thevinyl-uc6qc

    I just don't like that they have fireworks in the stadium. Orcas have a very strong sense of hearing, and the sounds of fireworks will probably damage their hearing. And this happens everyday

    • @oneocean111
      @oneocean111 10 років тому

      Their sense of hearing is different from ours. If the fireworks did scare the orcas or was too loud for them, they would swim at the bottom of the pool to get away from it. They don't do that, in fact, they continue the show as if the fireworks didn't exist.

      Tania Madi They only train during some parts of the day. Again, only some parts of they day, so not all day. During the night, they rest like you and me. They don't sleep like humans do, but they do rest for an extended amount of time. You are very wrong if you think they only get fed if they perform or train. Nothing is forced upon the orcas, everything is based on positive reinforcement, meaning if they decided not to perform or train, they don't have to, yet they still receive all their food for the day. Tilikum is a great example of this. On my trip to SeaWorld in 2012, Tilikum was able to perform again. He didn't perform that day, in fact he didn't perform until months later, yet he didn't die of starvation. I did in fact watch blackfish, and I'll tell you this, that movie is a joke. That movie shouldn't be considered a documentary, in fact it's propaganda. Blackfish is all one sided and plays with your emotions to get you to think like them, this is the definition of propaganda. Again, the animals still perform with all the noise without showing signs of being scared ir frightened because of it. They still perform as usual.

    You all obviously do not know the care, love, and support these animals receive everyday of their lives. Let's all do some research about Sea World and you will find they are second to none in saving animal lives all over North America. Many of the Orcas you see were born in captivity now, despite their parents were taken from the wild. They act as ambassadors for their species. Now their parents were taken from the wild and I agree it was a bad situation, however, now we have successful breeding programs and successful rescue programs to sustain captive populations. These animals make up 98% of captive animals!! Maybe if you armchair activists would start finding ways to stop polluting the oceans and the Earth than we wouldn't need them to inspire people to care about the environment which sustain us all!!! These captive orcas do not know survival skills and putting them back in the ocean would be dangerous! Their immune systems are used to the perfect conditions of Sea World pools that are monitored 24/7. The whales are literally catered to and fed restaurant quality food! They would die if put back in the ocean. (This is what happened to Keiko. aka Free Willy) How dare any of you say that these whales are treated badly!!! These trainers devote their entire lives to caring for these magnificent creatures and protecting their wild counterparts! They don't have giant pools the size of Texas, but they don't need that! People are capable of walking many miles, but do we need houses that big??? NO. We just need stimulation! The trainers' entire day consists of playing with and training these animals which keeps them physically fit and mentally stimulated. One more thing, these animals are not forced to perform. They get fed whether they do or not, and they can swim away from a show if they want.

    • @oneocean111
      @oneocean111 10 років тому +2

      ***** Do you expect SeaWorld to have known so much about orcas in the past than they do now? SeaWorld has improved since the 60's-70's era and beyond and they still continue to improve. I do admit there have been unfortunate incidents, but do you think SeaWorld just ignored these incidents and moved on? Whenever an incident occurs SeaWorld uses that event and builds from it, to ensure minimal possibility of it happening again.
      Orca capture was popular in the past, everyone was doing it. It is very unfortunate to what happened to them, but we cannot change the past. Orcas have little to no instincts for survival. Why do you think the wild mothers teach their young how to hunt? Rehabilitation barley works for orcas, Keiko is a great example why. Keiko went through rehabilitation to be released. Once released, he still wanted as much attention from humans and probably for the most part food. Wild orcas also have their teeth filed down too. Orcas have soft teeth, so depending on the food wild orcas hunt in the wild their teeth get filed down. An ecotype of orca eats shark, which have rough skin. Due to the rough skin, the teeth get filed down. Orcas in captivity have toys to play with, which also have different textures. The orcas do constantly chew on the toy to play with it and play with the other tank members. Due to the constant chewing, the teeth eventually get filed down.
      Regarding to pol size, the pools at all three Shamu Stadiums are quite large themselves. orcafreak.webs.com/facilities.htm here are the measurements of all three shamu stadiums. If that wasn't enough, SeaWorld is currently in the works of expanding all three shamu stadiums by 30 meters across the perimeter. This includes the show pool and the back pools. The only reason why orcas swim so much is because of two reasons, food source and migration. Orcas need to hunt in order to survive, but not all their food is always going to be in the same spot forever. Temperatures in the ocean keep changing so orcas have to keep moving, because they are not capable of living in warmer water only cold. This is what causes the wild orcas to move so much everyday. The orcas here get all the food they need and the temperature stays constant all day every day. They do get a certain amount of exercise everyday to stimulate them.
      Tell me how you know the difference between a "fit" orca and not. Orcas in captivity do have different characteristics than their wild counterpart. The definition of domesticated animal is an animal who does work for humans and has notably different characteristics of their wild counterpart. Now I'm not saying the orcas are completely domestic, but they are showing signs of becoming domestic animals, possibly in the near future.
      The orcas at SeaWorld do get a choice if they want to perform or not. Tilikum is a great example of this. Back in 2012, Tilikum was able to perform again, he performed for a few months then stopped. After about 3-4 moths again, He started performing again. Do you think in that time period the trainers never asked him to perform? The trainers always ask if the orcas want to perform, and if they don't that's fine with them.
      It is part of an orca's ecology to breed. IF you take that away from them, you are the one making their lives "less natural" than they are. These animals, especially the captive born, will not survive in an environment where the temperatures change constantly, the water is not as clean, and there's weird fish swimming around. Putting them in sea pens will ultimately kill them. They have been in captivity for much too long to make such a drastic change. Again, dumping the orcas in the ocean just to make your ego higher will solve nothing. Do some research before you rant about something that makes you look ignorant on the topic.

      ***** oneocean111 pretty much said it all, but there are some things I want to add. First off of course the trianers don't spend every minute with the whales! That would be kind of annoying if someone never gave you alone time wouldn't it? Although, I can say that most of the day is spent with the animals a s a trianer doing play sessions, feeds, and shows, at least where I WORK! Also, you can't get all your evidence from watching a webcam for fifteen minutes and saying oh look at that whale its all by itself in a tiny pool. Yeah it's called a medical pool where that orca is probably receiving treatment, is sick, or maybe pregnant. Which, by the way, marine mammal facilities will never tell you if an animal is pregnant because of the 50% survival rate of calves both in the wild and captivity! There is no way the animal would be seperated by itself like that unless it was absolutely detrimental to its health or the well being of the other orcas and it certainly isn't kept there like that for long! I suggest before you start pointing your finger that you find out why the whale was placed where it was from the professionals who put it there!
      Also, we have learned countless amounts of knowledge about these guys that was previously unknown until they were kept in captivity. This knowlegde saves wild orcas!!! Yes captive ones lead different lives but its just that. Different not bad. and I really don't know where you get the whole orcas live longer in the wild. First off, you can't make that call until we know more maximum ages than from just the first twenty or so orcas who lived in captivity. Any SMART scientist knows you need lots of data to correctly support a claim like that. Which means we need a lot more data and that will take many years.
      The fact that you mention putting them in sea pens means that you really don't know about the orcas immune system. (Something we found out from captivity.)

      +Frida Nyberg The pools are small and shallow. Even if the depth were double the size that you say---it would still be a painfully inadequate living space for an ocean-dwelling mammal the size of a killer whale. Orcas don't belong in captivity. And they certainly do not belong in captivity in amusement parks that are structured for profit. The era of permanently displaying dolphins, orcas, and belugas in concrete enclosures is passing. People everywhere are rethinking their attitude toward the use of animals in entertainment. It is time for meaningful change in this industry. Don't buy a ticket to a whale or dolphin show. Don't buy a ticket to SeaWorld.

    • @oneocean111
      @oneocean111 10 років тому +2

      ***** The shows are supposed to inspire people to celebrate, connect with, and share the natural world we all share. They don't play with your emotions unlike blackfish did. That being said, there is a difference between that and having the show emotional, where being emotional shows emotion within the show. The shows are there to ultimately inspire the guest to make a positive difference in our oceans and natural environment. Some may say the night shows don't educate, but that's the point. SeaWorld doesn't give the night shows every night, thus the show serves purpose as being the fun show. After a long day at SeaWorld, guest watch the show to kick back and relax and just plainly have fun. The dorsal fin collapse occurs from gravity, nothing more or less. Naomi Rose has said herself at Voice of San Diego that the fin dropping has nothing to do with their health or well being, but simply gravity taking over due to the fact that captive orcas stay on the surface of the water longer than their wild counterparts. The dorsal fin is made up of cartilage, a flexible connective tissue, and nothing else to support. The orcas are separated when they show obvious signs of independence or medical reasons. Some argue that wild orcas stay with their mothers for the rest of their lives, but this is true for only a few ecotype of orcas. Different ecotypes of orcas act differently than others. Some stay with their mothers, some only for a bit. SeaWorld's orcas are composed of orcas who stay with the mother until their independence grows. SeaWorld on very rare occasions uses AI on their orcas. Just like any other behavior, the orcas do get to decide if they want to be AI or not. Why would they let them choose every other behavior but not one? Same rule applies to all behaviors. The orcas are anything but overbred. If they were, their tanks would be very overcrowded. SeaWorld's orcas presently, presently being the key word, live as long as their wild ecotype counterpart. Corky is approaching 50 years old and SeaWorld has orcas in their 30's and 20's. Let me guess, you got your information from every other biased anti cap website and "documentary". Get educated before you start to rant on a subject you clearly know nothing about.

      @oneocean111 10 років тому

      Because they have different opinions than yours. For future reference, the animals here are not forced to perform. They are given all their food of the day regardless if they perform or not. Tilikum is a great example of this. Back in 2011 Tilikum was able to perform again, so he continued to perform as usual. He stopped performing mid to late 2011 and didn't return until late 2012, yet he didn't die of starvation in that time period.

    This is animal cruelty
    Reasons:
    1. They keep them from there natural habitat
    2. They capture the young
    3. They are separated from there mothers

    • @oneocean111
      @oneocean111 10 років тому +7

      You are wrong
      Reasons:
      1. Any animal in a zoo or aquarium is kept from their natural environment. No zoo or aquarium can replicate the wild perfectly in a zoological setting.
      2. The very large majority of these orcas here are born there. The much older ones were captured when they were young, because this was a very popular thing to do in the past. Everyone wanted to do it and have an orca. what had happened was in the past and we cannot change that.
      3. They are only separated if a medical issue rises up. Just like every other animal, they do separate as well in the wild. Now there are orcas in the wild who stay with their mothers a large majority of their life, but this is an example of one type of ecotype of orca who do this. Not all ecotype of orcas stay with their mothers forever. SeaWorld tries their best not to keep them separated. Look at Makaio, Nalani, and Katina here. Sure you can see them perform alone, but in the end you see them together. If they are separated to do the show, they are guaranteed to return to their mother 3-4 minutes after the segment.

    Poor things, this channel shouldn't be showing this humiliating, draconian practice. Stick to animatronics and roller-coasters.
