Excellent presentation and content. Nice work! I'm strongly thinking about becoming a devops engineer even though I'm currently a network and security architect. It might be a step backwards in compensation, but I think it looks like very rewarding work.

I have been following your content since few days and kinda addicted to it.Good content for someone who want to switch to cloud/devops.I have around 10 years of experience in IT.Programming and all are not a challenge for me.However i am slight upper range of ctc per market standard.I have started learning cloud/devops.However the question is, will the company will be ready to pay someone who has no prior cloud/devops experience.Even 30% hike will be way more than someone who has 5-6 years of experience on cloud/devops.Can you pls share some input.
Hi Alok, have to prove in your interview that you can handle the cloud. Its better if you can somehow get hands on with cloud in your current company. When it comes to CTC, if you are applying for the right company there is no limit :). For example companies like AWS pay awesome packages.

I don't have much experience in coding but I do have some experience in ETL tools like Informatica & Knime. Any Cloud(AWS/Azure/GCP) > DevOps tools > Kubernetes
For DevOps You should atleast have scripting knowlege in bash or powershell. Atleast from my experience coding knowledge is not mandatory but it is good to have.

Hi Mentor, my interest is towards cloud and devops, i works as a windows administrator holding 5 years of exp, and where i have put my own interest to learn docker and kubernetes myself, there is no experts out there to guide me the path where to start, in addition i have learnt azure as well , Now i am put up in a bad situation with a confuse mind, where to start, i think getting job in cloud would be little bit easy than devops, how do we make through, your reply is greatly appreciated mentor.

Chef is more popular than puppet..but if you are good with puppet then its fine as well.

Any cloud ops roles or SRE roles in general have less coding but I would strongly recommend to get your hands dirty in Python atleast.

Hi, I have one question I am a cloud engineer but I was never into scripting or programming a lot of things required many say like ansible python shell terraform and many more for a single job I have 9 years of experience totally I am confused to pick between shell and python first of all and then terraform is required as cloud I can learn it so only part left is ansible so how can I start off with scripting python or shell for a beginner ?

Hey your stuff is just being awesome . And the question is I'm a mechanical students just passout in this 2021and I have 0 knowledge on theses coding and Java stuff so which cloud suitable to be ? And before get into this what the basic stuff I really want to learn ?
Any cloud technology nearly same.. Aws gcp, ms azure are popular.. there is no cloud for "beginner". If you really make your mind as a only devops engineer you can start and must learn linux, git, docker or similar container tools, kubernetes, automation tools like jenkins, ansible puppet, monitoring tools like Prometheus, grafana visualizer.. should be comfortable to write shell script/bash script in linux . also can use python for that..

and finally let me giv advice from my 10 yrs of exp in server side java dev.. devops is just a bridge betwn IT and software dev. every company needs only 1 to 2 devops unless the company is only cloud based company.. so you might need to face challenges. one of my collegue was the only devops in my company. he was mtech in electrical engg. he doesn't find job in his field and switch to devops. He was good but not better. When I join the company i showed my skills as backend dev also devops and after i joined the company, the company just fired him because I was that "better" the company looking for
You come from mechanical eng. better stick with it.. or mix devops with other tech stack.. devops with frontend or backend or devops with networking netdevops /devsecops etc

Yes Devops engineer can put cloud experience too. Have to study both.

The original goal behind DevOps philosophy was to blend software development with operations. So naturally some employers expect a DevOps to have a stronger software engineering type background.

Hi RK, I would suggest to do cloud and devops together. I guess incident management is also part of cloud security so yes you can switch your career and honestly doesn't matter from which background you come from as long as you can crack interview.

Like the guy himself here...are they actually bluffing about previous relevant experience or being honest about that they don't hold any experience and just simply switching....isn't that being on a freshers stage again in terms of CTCs of market standards? Hi, I am wondering how python scripts used in CI/CD Or other DevOps task? If you could give me some insight, since I started with python basics but not sure what sort of answers interview might expect from me in terms of automation/devops tasks.
DevOps is like an intermedier between Developer and Operation So the developer will develop the whole code, No worries. So why you need some language knowledge is just to understand the code in case there is any bug so that you can look at it (Not mandatory)...However, scripting knowledge is required to make a small automation script to automate the process (Preferred Python)......(I am also AWS and DevOps learner) Best luck.

Development in Devops needs good know how of algo n data-structure in smaller firms, in larger ones there are CSE IIT PhDs or MTechs, to do Them. If you go for cloud, you still need to be able to do network programming in larger firms.
