Honestly, what keeps me coming back to this video is not the tech skill or the reading or the gimps or the 0-death combos. It's that style, that mad creativity, that unexpected genius. It's those 50~60 seconds starting around 4:10 where Darkrain just ... beautifully betrays your expectations of what a Falcon combo should be, and that moment when you realize that whatever tried-and-true move you would have done wouldn't have worked as well.
ive watched a lot of combo videos, many of them falcon, and i must say this one rivals the best there is. darkrain moves frame perfect with watever he does, all his combos look spontaneous yet perfectly executed, and he really does look like hes reading his opponents mind. i really like how this vid was made too, huge props
It's because he waits for the very last few frame of hitstun to continue his combo. That's what makes Darkrain's combos so scary. He lets you soak in the fear of the inevitable. :o
I understand your point Rundas, and it's a valid one. Brawl is a neat game and completely succeeded at bringing the smash experience to a broader audience. As a guy who can appreciate the finesse high level melee combos exhibit I think you'd have a lot of fun executing combos yourself. I think people overestimate the tech skill comboing requires. Sure, none of us is going to be darkrain any time soon, but after learning to shffl you'll soon be having _much_ more fun playing than watching vids.
Oh don't get me wrong, there is nothing I love more than watching sexy Falcon's like Jeff's. I just think that the sheer brutality and quality of Mind Reader makes it stand out as a combo video.
A lot of other Captains can pull off flashy combos when the other guy is at 30~50%. Darkrain is really the only one who can pull them off when the other guy is at 0~20%.
I dunno Jace, I feel that this deserved more tech-chasing vs. fastfallers than it got. I mean, he's the Mind Reader, maybe the video should have portrayed more of his mind reading skills. Still really good, though. Very entertaining :D
@junkimchi he is a cool guy, and hes not pompous about being better than everyone either. He just chills out and plays games, has fun. He's really fun to team with, it actually makes teams somewhat fun.

You can be hit the opposite way falcon is facing regardless. But if that's just DI, i'm cool with that. I think there's a cort vid against a fox (pc chris? jman?) from some time ago (i dont think it was RoM though) where cort SDI's like 5 uairs in 2 stocks. It was pretty sick

Just my personal preference, and I use Y to jump so hitting down and then jumping is pretty easy for me, and then hitting A to knee while holding in to the stage.
Oh, and dark if you're reading this and feel nostalgic? Just head to the GameStop on Westport. The guys there still know how to reach me because I'm pretty sure you don't have my current number and I don't get on AIM nearly as much as I used to.
Uair has more situational uses than the knee, but they both are extremely good and useful in their own respects. Any good falcon can't neglect either move. (Or many others for that matter.)
This video does not make the mistakes many other combo videos make, such as having clips that vary in quality and showcasing too much of the same combo.
People saying this isn't anything special need to realize why it's titled "Mind Reader" and not "Tech Skill."
