  • Example problem for analyzing a structural frame with an inclined member. The process followed in the video is as follows:
    1) Label frame members
    2) Calculate external reactions
    3) "cut" out members and draw them with respect to their i (start) and j (end)
    4) Draw axial, shear, and moment diagrams for each member

I’m confused about what happened at joint C. Why are the shear and axial forces between members one and two not matching?

in part 1, you used the angle to get N = -20.64kN and V = 7.64kN on the cut just before joint C, may i know how can i get 9.2kN reaction back from 7.64? because both 7.64 cos and sin 45 gives 5.4kN.

When we draw the parabola for BMD, how do we know which side the parabola would open? Upward or downward?

Question - With the loading in the original X and Y axes (as mentioned as the end of the video), can the AFD SFD and BMD be drawn? That would be a pretty confusing drawing, especially for the angled member! :-/

I have a confusion: how the moments through joint c when we draw the bending moment diagram have the same direction
    Thanks

Have been watching ur video since I do Mechanic of solid and now Structure Analysis. Do you have a video teaching for drawing diagrams for Axial forces, shear forces and bending moment on a Frame shape or L shape without doing any calculation?

    9:52 ... why is it 4.2kN*m ? shouldn't it be 4kN*m ? as your uniformly distributed load...

how he calculated that ? i'm lilttle confused here

      he wrote it as 4.2 , but calculated it as 4 >> 9.2/4 = 2.3

      ratio and proportion : (4-x)/x = 6.8/9.2 .... therefore, x=2.3
