Great video! I'm putting my own wakesurf trick video together and had to check yours out another time to see how you filmed it. I've got a few other names for the tricks: Fire Hydrant= Tripod (with no hand on the wake), Knees= The Kneeboarder, Belly= The Superdude, Deck Stop etc. Wish I could have pulled off the 180 body varial....next year! See ya on the wake!
I learned how to stand up on a surf board last week when pulled behind a boat with a rope, started laying down, got the feel for it, then worked my way onto my knees, got a feel for it and learned how to lean from one side of the wake to the other. Once comfortable with my knees, I found a smooth spot in the wake to be stable enough to get one foot flat on the board, and then stand up and balance, it was the best feeling of being able to work my way up to standing on a surf board!
Hey this is really late, hopefully u respond. What type of board is that? Skim board or wake board or something else? Also do u need a ingrown engine to do this or can u have an outgrown engine on ur boat?
I've been wakesurfing for a few years and thought I was getting pretty good. I realized I was still a beginner once I looked up videos like yours. My question is how do you 'carve' up the wake in order to generate forward momentum like you do at 2:50? My sweet spot for going ropeless seems so small because I can't figure this out. Typically my only way of getting back in is putting most of my weight on my front foot and hoping thats enough. I was trying to figure this out last weekend, but was frustrated because I couldn't figure out the movement. Is it a matter of my wave not being big enough? Perhaps it's my board? Could you describe how you''re doing this to me? Thanks!
I feel the Same way you do when i look at Video's online there are some AMAZING people out there who can come up with a Crazy amount of Tricks to do. What i love most about Wakesurfing is there ARE NO RULES you can do anything you want and make it a trick. It takes very good balance and patience and a Crap load of falls to get better. A little about my boat it's a 24FT Axis with 6000LBS of Ballast plus the 4500ft weight of the boat, using the SurfGates and a Wedge to make the wave bigger. So my Wave is massive, Speed of the boat will greatly Affect the Wave Size, The Faster you go the smaller and longer the wave. The more People/More Ballast the bigger and Steeper. Board Style is very important, Surf Style is harder to get back in to the wave. Skim style is faster but a bit less control depending on how many fins you have in it. The Liquid Force NoseRider board will let me get really Far Back on the Wave my Shorter boards no so much. Just keep practicing, Keep watching Videos, Try New Boards, Try adding people to your boat, Try Adjusting speed Faster and Slower, Go to the fastest you can stay on the boat maybe 12-13mph and have the driver slow until Slowest 8-9mph to really learn that wave and see what you like best. Best of Luck have a Great Summer Surfing! Doing some Wakesurf Board Reviews in a couple of Weeks Keep a eye open for that!
I would Agree i think i need to do a Refresher and break down the tricks and give some tips on getting each trick. Summer is coming soon so I think it's time to get the GoPro out. Thanks for the post! Have fun Surfing this summer!
What boat is this behind? How much ballast? Just bought my first wkb boat, 2018 xt23, learning how to surf..great video. Will def try these out next sesh.
Axis A24, 3000LB of Ballast, Front, Center, and Rear Bags. Nice Boat, if you can give your new boat a review i'm always wondering how the wakesurf wave is on all these new boats. Have a Great Summer Surfin!
Had a great first summer wake surfing with beginner surf style boards (little problem staying in the wake, moving front to back, pumping, etc.)...any good recommendations for an intermediate board to start doing tricks? We have riders from 100lb to 200lb - better off going with the bigger board size if getting only one?
Great to hear you you are out there having Fun! So if you are looking for a Board to Just make staying in the Wake super easy I would recommend this board. ua-cam.com/video/fbTAZ5MNzBk/v-deo.html Then once you get really comfortable riding in the wake you could step up to one of these int/adv. ua-cam.com/video/V5HlOfD87RI/v-deo.html
This is great! Thanks. However I am not sure 720s, landing and starting on the boat are beginner tricks. You got to know what you are doing to land on the boat. Either way, good vid and learning the basics is huge.
Hey Jonathan, Thanks for the Comment! I would agree with you on that but this video can give you some Ideas of Tricks to learn in the future as well. I Checked out your Channel as well! Keep up the Kiteboarding/Snowboarding/Wakesurfing/Wakeboarding I'm the same as you have to keep that adenine pumping! Have a Great Summer!
Thanks for checking out my channel. I agree with you, always good to give people something to shoot for. Surfing is so much fun, and you have to learn to like to fall and get back up again to lock down these tricks. I sent your vid to a buddy said we have to complete your list.
Are 360's easier on a surf style board or on a skim style board. I have been trying a lot on a ski board but the front of the board always sinks when I come around.
Skim board should be easier in Theory, as it's designed for spins but that being said, you might want to give a surf style a try as it will not be as easy to sink in the front and will be more forgiving on the recovery if you do sink it a bit. It's all Balance and Practice, you will get it if you don't give up!
you will need a INBOARD Engine , do not try on a Outboard or a Inboard/outboard you can get serious injured! Reason is a inboard has the prop under the boat so if you fall near the boat you won't lose a hand, :-)
Interesting Axis has something called a Wedge we can Drop if we are wakesurfing which will lower the back of the boat and add another 900lbs of weight in theory, it looks lower than the Supra's Wake Plate so i wonder if it does the same thing? www.google.com/search?q=supra+wake+plate&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj8hJGPup_VAhUJWz4KHS8jCiwQ7AkITA&biw=1152&bih=642#tbm=isch&q=axis+wedge
Love this beginner video! We are launching a new wakesurfing app soon to include all things wakesurfing including training videos.. Would you mind if we pointed to this video in it?
Good eye! A Axis a24 2013 full ballast with extra plug and play ballast also installed it's a monster wave! We call the boat "tidal wave" have a great summer and keep on surfing!
I think a lot of these videos i did not have any Extra Plug and Play Bags, Since then i have added front and Rear bags, here is a video of Rear bags ua-cam.com/video/tepSS-q47EI/v-deo.html and Front Sumo Bags, see how wave looks there, ua-cam.com/video/YaSvnu8J2Yo/v-deo.html

+Eve Wilton nope just a CWB Tsunami purchase at end of season for real cheap.its a Skim style not a Surf style. www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=CWB-Tsunami-Wakesurfer&i=767335%E2%80%8B

Hey thanks for all the info and great video. I bought a Connelly Habit and I think It's pretty good. Have you ever ridden one and if so how do you rate it? I'm able to hold the sweetspot so now it's time to learn some of your tricks!
So it's possible to do a 360 with Zero Fins, "Austin Keen" Rides his board with no fin's, or 2 fins or 4 fins, the longer the Fin's the harder it will be to first spin that board, so i would recommend a Skim Style Wakesurf board with really small fins and only put in two fins. If you want to just for fun remove all the fin's it's really easy to spin but not so easy to stop spinning and start balancing. If you have deep fins you could either Jump and Spin, VERY HARD, or Really WIPE and Scoop that wave to 360. Make sure you watch this might help you. ua-cam.com/video/HvAZniBXmZE/v-deo.html
I think that will come with time and learning your wave and board, I surf as a Kid and it closer to that than wakeboarding, Etc although you will Def. progress a lot faster than someone who has never done any water sports. Keep at it after like 500 falls you will be that much better.
+California Riding Videos ua-cam.com/video/xip-l6d4WVc/v-deo.html i did a couple of videos with the upgraded ballast tanks, but quickly A24 Axis, speed around 10.6 mph, about 4500lbs
if you are just trying to get up and ride the wave, www.evo.com/outlet/wakesurf-boards/liquid-force-noserider-board.aspx then a nose rider is great for that, something nice a big where you can almost put your feet anywhere and surf it. If you are talking about doing 360's you would want to get good a Curving and riding first then get a smaller board which has both sides even, like this, www.evo.com/wakesurf-boards/byerly-wakeboards-volt-board.aspx
It's funny that you ask that, i actually just first a skim board the other day behind the boat, it's a lot of fun! It's going to be Real "Swirly" you will know what i mean when you try it. I would not recommend it for a beginner but Yes you can, spins a really easy since there is no fin.
+Brett Schneider mine was wood worked fine, fiberglass would be even better, a skim board will sink a bit more than a Wakesurf board but the are mostly the same. I think it will be a lot of fun to try it!
Even though it's a small wake I've used this video to do some little things (still with the handle) this weekend I will most likely be able to do withought the rope like you did in this video but the wake I'm learning on is much bigger we have a 2016 MB sport tomcat f22 or 23 I can't remember but with hard tanks filled and the ballast filled it throws a much bigger wake I personally am doing hard tanks full and ballast 7/8th full. The wake your on looks really small...
LoL, our Lake is mostly 7-10 FT which does not allow the Wake to Grow, If it was 25ft or Deeper the wake would be bigger, Also speed can Affect it if I would rather have it long or Tall. Have a Great Summer Surfing
I was looking at the TomCat MB as Well Beautiful Boat, But on the EastCoast we don't have any Dealers, Which is LAME! malibu/Axis was only ony one at the boat show with SurfGate when i got my 2015 Axis 24FT, i have about 4500LBS boat weight Factory Ballast 3500 and another 3000LBS Plug and Play ( Additional Ballast) I would Love to Ride the Tomcat to see what sort of Wake it Throw. How is the Tomcat for Getting Airs and 360's? What about a Surfgate do they have something like that or do you need to fill one side Heavier?
We just got a 2017 Wakesetter. Love it. I feel like the wake is huge, but I am having a hard time figuring out what type of board to learn on. Borrowed a Phase 5 Swell, which is nice, 2-fin, very maneuverable, but not sure it's the best to learn on. Would love to hear your feedback - put a video up @ instagram.com/tyroot/
2017 WakeSetter, I'm Jealous! you will have a Amazing Summer! I love the fact you are wearing a Dry Suit Now that is Commitment! You will prob want at least 1 Surf Syle and a Skim Style, here is the video Reviews from some of my Boards, ua-cam.com/video/V5HlOfD87RI/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/C1nKcQRZhAw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/4OFA-cUpFxc/v-deo.html Keep up Riding and you will be doing 360's in NO TIME!
Ty Root just keep practicing! Might take a crap load of falls but you will get it, it a lot of muscle memory, balance and just making it up as you go along! Glad to hear the 2017 is giving you a great wake!

How is the Tomcat for Getting Airs and 360's? What about a Surfgate do they have something like that or do you need to fill one side Heavier?
Some tricks are beginner tricks but most aren’t
When he calls these beginner tricks and drops a 720 on us at the end 😵 The beginners I know are learning to drop the rope haha
i water ski but i want to wake board
We just got a 2017 Wakesetter. Love it. I feel like the wake is huge, but I am having a hard time figuring out what type of board to learn on. Borrowed a Phase 5 Swell, which is nice, 2-fin, very maneuverable, but not sure it's the best to learn on. Would love to hear your feedback - put a video up @ instagram.com/tyroot/
2017 WakeSetter, I'm Jealous! you will have a Amazing Summer! I love the fact you are wearing a Dry Suit Now that is Commitment! Appreciate the links. really trying to work on those pump skills and techniques to control speed, and stay in the wake. This stuff is a blast!
Ty Root just keep practicing! Might take a crap load of falls but you will get it, it a lot of muscle memory, balance and just making it up as you go along! Glad to hear the 2017 is giving you a great wake!
