HARRIS INSTEAD OF BIDEN: Fleischhauer “The age issue is coming back for Donald Trump!”
US Vice President Kamala Harris has gathered enough delegates behind her to be nominated as the official presidential candidate at the Democratic Party convention in November. A poll by the AP news agency revealed that Harris has collected more than the required 1976 delegate votes. This makes her opponent in the November election, Republican Donald Trump, almost certain.
On Monday night, the delegations of several states confirmed their support for Harris. California party chairman Rusty Hicks reported that between 75 and 80 percent of California delegates have expressed their support for Harris. No delegate contacted by the AP named any other possible candidate.
Harris thanked President Joe Biden and all Democrats for their confidence. She looks forward to presenting her case to the American people. The Democratic Party plans to allow delegates to make initial decisions before the convention. A virtual vote should make this possible. The party committee will decide on the procedure on Wednesday, which should be completed by August 7.
Following the withdrawal of Joe Biden, the party is trying to overcome the internal party drama that arose after the TV duel between Biden and Trump. Biden endorsed Harris as a replacement candidate, which led to a record 81 million dollars in donations within 24 hours. In total, the “Harris for President” campaign account has raised almost 96 million dollars.
Harris told her campaign team in Wilmington, Delaware, that she wants to earn the nomination and win against Trump in November. Joe Biden, who is recovering from a coronavirus infection, announced that he would actively support Harris in the election campaign. He emphasized that the party's mission has not changed, even if the name at the top has.
