    This is the holy grail of hydroponics

    Hoocho, another great update. Two things seem to stop these pumps. The impeller jumps off the shaft (they are a friction fit). This can only be fixed by pulling the pump apart to get to the impellor. The second (which was likely your failure) is that some grit from the perlite jams the impeller shaft. The prevention for this is to pull a pool filter sock over the pump & cable tie the opening to the power cord. These last for years & can be purchased in the pool section of your favourite hardware store :)

    With those pumps (they're all the same from china) I find the impeller can stick every now and then, if you get it to where you can see the impeller and either tap the whole pump or flick the actual impeller it'll get going again, it not actually becoming unreliable they just need a good clean every now and then.
    I find 1 cup of citric acid per 3 liters of water is a great way to clean the pumps. Leave it running in there for a couple hours and then a good rise and you're set!
    May also be a good idea to look into some sort of cheap flow monitors that can report a failed pump?...

      Thanks for the info.!
      My problem will be using dam water - having to clean tap filters is frustrating enough! Perhaps have a couple of extra pumps so I can have a quick change over.
      Pat.

    I'll watch it all thanks. 😉
    I can try & look after them bunnies & hares for you if you like.😁 Hydro greens, spuds & roast wabbit.
    Impressive spud harvest Hoocho 👍
    Have you tried an electric toothbrush our "pleasure devices" to aid in tomato pollination? I've seen commercial cucumber growers use them in greenhouses in SA.
    I'm trying some PureCrop1 on the mites & aphids here to see how it goes.
    Very interested in the new system you have planed mate.
    Cheers & hope the back feels better soon. 🍻

      I should definitely try a little rabbit hahah
      I’ve actually bought a sonic brush for that reason. Been meaning to use it.
      Currently building the system, it’s been slow going, am super aware of my back. Usually I can pump out a build in a day. But this one has taken a few.
      Excited to reveal it. XD

    I am a newb hydroponicer. At this stage I only have of one of MrStacky's solar grow tower thingos. It was great to find Australian content on the subject. My next project will be to make a couple of RGGS's. Anyway, thanks for the videos and keep up the good work. All the best, Brian.

    my aunt grew the best maters . you got to switch them every day right before sundown . take a small stick about 2 foot long. just go a long tap the tops with stick .dont damage the plant.why you do this is to get the pollen to drop down on the flowers below .

    Fantastic channel @hoocho ... One thing that will change you life forever is buy a hot glue gun .... it is the missing link in your tool arsenal, bit of hot glue on the connector will water proof and will keep it secure, hole in your netting, hot glue and a patch, sets fast, sticks to nearly everything, you are knocking it out the park awesome job buddy. i'm going to have to try growing wasabi one day.

    In these pumps, the impeller are often not driven directly but indirect by magnets from outside for better waterproof design. Often a little thing could clog these pumps very easy. Just cleaning it in intervals should be enought.

  • @JamesThomas-pj2lx
    @JamesThomas-pj2lx 2 роки тому

    1. The pump, the stem that holds the impeller broke. You can easily fab another stem savbe you $75. 2. 14 gauge welded wire fence run as a trellis would work great with tomatos. 3. Lady bugs will slam the adult aphids, check your roots for root aphids.

    Have you ever considered neem oil for your aphid problem? Or even better, ladybugs and lacewings. I know you can order them here in the states. Also you could bring in stingless bees for pollination. Australia has it's own species of native stingless bees.

    11:23 just for comparison erbody, jebao/jecod dc pumps are awesome, 1200L\hr for 12W. I have had one going for 5 or so years turning off nearly every night. Never jammed, swirly impellor looks unjammable.

    was there any rhizomatic growth on the wasabi? it was hard to see, but it didn't look like much. your mention of the queensland heat makes me think there probably wasn't much rhizome development right?

    Having a taste test of the tomatos? If you do, could you compare with insect pollinated plants? A few stories around, but I trust you to tell the tale!
    Mind you, the potatoes have me convinced to try hydroponics!
    Stay safe, pat.

    What nutrient are you using for the wasabi? My brother just got me some sprouts and I’ve had a hard time finding any info on it. I’ve got the whole system set up other than the nutrient.

    Are you using RO water for your water? If not, what is the EC of your water that you're using before nutrients?

  • @karlotto8925
    @karlotto8925 2 роки тому

    You should have measured the EC and pH not directly at the float valve where fresh nutrient is fed into the system. How about at exactly the other end or multiple locations?

    • @renatel5294
      @renatel5294 2 роки тому

      The rain brought the systems above the float level though so it shouldn't have fed any new nutrients
