- Опубліковано 1 кві 2019
- In my Flosstube #5 (near the end), I showed the House and Garden Sampler I made for myself. In this video I will explain how I designed it and give tips on how you can make one for yourself. See info on the saying on my piece below.

The saying on my house sampler is from a song that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (now "Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square") sings called "A Gaelic Blessing" which I believe is an arrangement based on an old Gaelic poem. The arrangement is by John Rutter. And the song is on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir album titled "Peace Like a River". The song is also sung by other Christian choirs and available on other choir albums.
The lyrics are:
Deep peace of the running wave to you
Deep peace of the flowing air to you
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you
Deep peace of the shining stars to you
Deep peace of the gentle night to you
Moon and stars pour their healing light on you
Deep peace of Christ
Of Christ, The light of the world to you
Deep peace of Christ to you!
This was quite the treat to watch and hear your evolution of creation on this piece.. I see you made this video quite a while ago but I still had to comment. It's absolutely gorgeous and your instincts which you seem to easily follow led you down a path to a beautiful beautiful piece. As I watched you talk about the creation of this piece I remembered a map that my son made of the 6 and 1/2 acres but we lived on in the mountains of North Carolina with our outbuildings and his favorite spots to play in the woods. I think it would be great to pull that drawing out which I still have and do it and then interlace it with memories and special things on the property that we're special to us plus some of our pets. We had goats chickens a pony dogs and kitties. Thanks for the concept. I'll let you know if I ever get it done I thoroughly enjoy all your videos and look forward to discovering more of them. And don't you dare say you're not a designer! This is what a designer does!
Thank You Cathy, what kind words :) And oh yes, I think your son's drawing would make the most wonderful cross stitch ever. And with you adding other motifs to symbolize your memories, it would be a precious heirloom. What a great idea. And please let me know when you get it started :)
Wonderful. Your family heirloom to be treasured. You might even be able to have your house roofline inscribed and just attach it to the bottom center of the frame. Thank you for sharing and happy stitching 🧵
Thank You Kelly!! That is a great idea too!!!!!
That was also a great tutorial. I hope to see people take your advice and start stitching their own history.
Thank You Marsha, me too!
Wow ! That’s amazing and an amazing amount of time designing and stitching it.You need to keep a video of this with it for generations to come for the whole story.( who knows how tech will be then. )or at least write or journal it someway. Take care it’s Beautiful......
Thank You MaryJo! I will definitely put a written blurb on the back of the piece. You are right about technology, I could put a DVD of this video on the back, or a thumb drive, but who knows if they could use it in the future, LOL!
Hi!
My name’s Inma and I’m Spanish. I usually watch your videos and I love them, but this is awsome! Your piece is fantastic, I’m absolutely in love with it, you’re so creative and talented! I don’t feel I could be able to do it.

Thank You Inma!! I bet you are more talented than you know, you never know until you try!
Absolutely incredible! I really think it is outstanding! The details are so special, and I am a little envious of your talent. :)
Thank You Renee! I think it is more persistence than talent, lol.
What a masterpiece! This is so inspiring! I know you say you’re not a designer, but I think you most definitely are a designer, a real artist. Thank you so much for sharing your design process and your love for all of these memories. Thank you!! - Jennie

Thank You Nora! Such kind words. My favorite saying is that family is the best thing in your life and the hardest thing in your life. Depending on the day or the hour, lol. Such a sacrifice, but totally worth it.
Awesome video! Creativity at it's best.
Thank You Jeri!
Heard where you got the sayings, love love it. Will google and hopefully find it xxx

This is amazing!
Connie
Thank You Connie!
I love this! ❤️ Don’t down play what you did. You are an artist. That took a lot of thinking, planning and creativity!! What a cherished piece! Beautiful!
Thank You Angela!
Top notch advice! You most certainly are a designer, a teacher, and an inspiration! Thank you for this!
Brenda, I really enjoyed your original video about this sampler. It was so interesting to hear you describe your process from start to finish. What a treasure. Thanks so much.
Thank You Debbie!
you’ve inspired me to make one😀
Go for it!!! Thank You
This has to be the most beautiful and meaningful piece I have ever seen! You are indeed a designer!! You are my favorite flosstuber ! Keep on stiching.
Thank You Janet!! Such kind words :)
I still think this is one of the most amazing pieces I've ever seen. As a memory keeper I love the whole idea of this. I might try something similar with my childhood homes. There are only 3 houses, with most of my memories revolving around the middle one. I might need to do some pattern research. Thanks so much for this video.
Thank You Sarah!! Yes, do a row of three houses, that would be amazing!!! Or maybe three houses, but other blocks that show different childhood memories.
Thank you Brenda for sharing the making of this beautiful piece - what a treasure!
Thank You Carlene!
I’ve thought about your piece ever since you first explained it and it made my heart happy!! You are a great influencer. Hope to start soon on my own. Thank you sweet gal!!”
Thank You Leslie! Yes, please start one! I would love to see progress pics!

Thank You Laurie! And yes, start one of your own! I would love to see progress pictures!!
I love this so much. Thank you for sharing. I don't have any design skills, but you explain it so well and are so inspiring, I almost feel like I could do it.
Thank You Julie!! Yes you can! Just start on it and don't stress about it :)
Thanks for doing this video! I was inspired when you first showed that piece in video #5 and now I'm really motivated to start designing my own!
Yay!! I'm so glad you are going to make one. Just get started and don't stress about it!
I absolutely love what you designed and stitched, and thank you for sharing your creative process!!
What an amazing treasure that piece is! Thank you for sharing your process -- it was very inspiring!
Amazing video Brenda! Many tks for sharing with us. Your piece is a masterpiece, gorgeous and full of meaning! I loved it! Happy Stitching!
Thank You Mirili!
My grandma would say " Quit jumping over the flowers you're going to ruin them" we never stopped jumping over them. LOL What a beautiful piece!
Laughing, yes, that sounds just like my grandmother! Thank You!
This is so so sweet! Thank you for posting this. I have to wrap up my evening chores so I can settle in and watch! ❤️
Thank You Kathy!! How is PC Stitch coming? Are you figuring out how to use it?
Well, I am much more comfortable now after this video. I’m getting my graft paper ready. I was going to scan each photo I have of the houses and try to build off that. I like your way better to be honest.
@@khayes9591 oh good, I hope it goes well!!
Wow what a great video this was always a idea in my mine thank you for all you talent
Thank You Becky!
I’ve wanted to stitch my home for some time - great inspiration!
Thank You Terry!! Yes, you should!! I would love to see it.
Hi hi. You are such a confident woman and I love it. Love your videos so much. Your WIPS in your other videos I am crazy about :) I love this video, still watching it but had to type first haha. This is such good timing as I was pondering on the idea of making a house sampler for myself as well as those season and months of the year samplers, I think it is from Little House Needleworks. I live in South-Africa so I don't order from overseas, too scared to take the chance. But I wish I could have them. Ok I babbled enough. Oh and where did you get that sayings on your house sampler? Would you mind sharing them with me, and then may I add them on my sampler? They are precious. Thank you and take care!
Thank You Cathy! Such kind words, you made my day. The saying on my house sampler is from a song that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings called "A Gaelic Blessing" which I believe is an arrangement based on an old Gaelic poem. The arrangement is by John Rutter. And the song is on the Mormon Tabernacle Choir album titled "Peace Like a River".
Of Christ
The light of the world to you
Deep peace of Christ to you!
😍😍😍😍🙀🙀🙀🙀
Thank You Jamie!
This is amazing! Going to do my own! Which cloth did you use? and what kind of scale did you work with to create on the graph paper......I'm a newbie at this cross stitch game!
Thank You!! I did mine on 40ct linen, I am at work so I don't have the color here with me. I just used the graph paper I had and knew that 1 square would equal one stitch on my piece, so 20 squares would be one inch on the piece. Good Luck!!
For that size of a piece what size fabric did you use
Hi Tammy!
I knew that each square was going to be 100 by 100 and I allowed some extra for the border so I kind of knew about what size the sampler would end up, when I started it. My fabric was 40 ct linen and it was about 25 x 25 inches.
@@Handworkmaniac ok thank you it is a beautiful piece of work.
could you just retire and make cross stitch videos? this is amazing and os inspiring. thank you so much for not only inspiring but giving me the tools to actually make one of these.
Laughing, I will talk to my husband about that. I would LOVE it! Thank You Brandy!
