    Nice to see someone voicing this issue. I've brought it up a couple times myself for how useless some of these seem.
    My current ideas for a solution were as follows:
    Create a new attack pattern for the drones so that they either do not approach the target when trying to attack, or engage the target at max range and try to stay near to you or between yourself and the target. This would then allow for the range of some of these drones to be changed to be quite far and so still be able to apply.
    Also, Gecko-ize the bandwidth and application of these drones to both reduce the number of them that need to be fielded (thus reducing depreciating returns), while still keeping them small enough so that various drone options can fit in the drone bay.
    Another option in the same spirt as the above would be to actually get rid of all the different sizes and instead make a single good drone for each ewar ability which is roughly equivalent to a single meta module, but only allow a single ewar drone to be fielded at a time (except for maybe on a special dedicated hull)
    Lastly, maybe have some ships that give some bonuses to these drones, like the ewar platform ships. Or maybe go for broke with a new pirate interbus transport/smuggling ship that optionally can support with ewar or logistic drones haha (my back-burner idea for a caldar-minmatar pirate faction (though may need some new lore for a Thukker hostile takeover of the company lol))

    I have links in the description of the ewar drone - eveuni page & of the final picture of the video. Sorry if some parts are hard to follow or see, I think there is a reason why no one has done a video on this topic yet lol

    Yeah, most research have found most EWAR drones not to great.
    *Disclaimer: I'm fairly young in EVE and not a expert.
    I tend to use them now and then to fill "extra" bandwidth if it's over 25, just because it annoys me so much that light drones normally rules, bigger and their often just vulnerable, slow and unprecise in PVE.
    On the flipside, EWAR drones scales ok with size and ignores tracking, that said from what I red they have heavy stacking penalties. (I haven't figured out what heavy means, but at least that's what the wiki says.) So I try not to use more than one of a kind if I feel it's beneficial enough for my fit over a light drones DPS.
    Took me a while to get into the habit of releasing 2 sets of drones(as DPS and EWAR cant be in the same folder for some dumb reason), but it wasn't to hard to get into.
    The most practical use I had in PVE is probably replacing 1 light with 1 larger EWAR to fill unused Bandwith, using EWAR that compliments the fit. (If it's optimal or not, I have no clue. But I think it's fun)
    And I really love to fool around trying combinations of them just for fun, just to see how much closer I can let a rat get and still have ok tracking etc, I'm pretty sure in most cases a DPS drone would save me a lot of hassle and targeting. But who cares.....
    If you let them fly on their own their pretty much useless though, got to get that target binding as a regular key and prep them for your next target.
    *ECM (and nauter?) drones are not getting stacking penalties.

    • @eventon9372
      @eventon9372  2 роки тому +1

      thanks for the comment! and true, ECM & neuts suffer stacking penalties since they work/compound off each other.
      I did see that the stacking penalties were pretty bad on target painters, but the webs, damps, and target disruption seemed decent.

Even if the outcome might have turned out the way you expected, I guess, it's generally not bad to see first hand with certain things, get the reps in yourself and someone might just have overlooked something to start with or some basic/key mechanics could have changed over time that weren't looked at that much beforehand. Very interesting. I was aware of the hornet EC-300 as I found and scooped some a while ago, and saw a video where someone used them with their mining ship to try to escape a gank, but that's about it. I think I can see a use for the web or target painter ones with the Cerberus and Sacrilege in T3-T4 abyss to increase application (HAM fit). Especially with the Cerberus I was not planning or counting on drones anyway for damage. (The fits I'm testing already have web and painters, but a little extra can't hurt) IGN: Suki Vokkonen

    In order for ewar drones to get more play as they currently are, you'd have to have ewar specific drone bays or just much larger bays in general. In most situations, you'd just be better off bringing damage drones.

    Interesting video! I didn’t know web drones were available to alpha accounts. If I were to fix ewar drones, I would make disruption and painting drones have a much farther range and a much slower speed (maybe sentry options?), scale the speed of the other drones to match their frigate counterparts (web drones fastest, netting jamming drones somewhat fast) and I would have the drones ewar strength scale off of skill level. Either racial drone specialization or the base ewar skill. ign renaomaras fly safe! o7

    ECM drones and neut drones both work very well for their purpose. Which is not surprising as they are not stacking penalised. The web, damp, painter and td drones are stacking penalised into uselessness. Maybe a missile ship can get some application benefits from a mix of td and web drones but probably less than just the equivelent drone bay of combat drones.

  • @Shiftry87

    Maybe i got this wrong but i dont think i am atleast. For the Neut test u hade a Nosferatu running giving u back cap so its no wonder that u would be able to re-apply tackle with that thing running. The mediums neut pressure seemed to be just on the brink of what the Nos was giving u back so u could turn on the tackle a few times if the timings lined up in your favor. But as far as the light the Nos was giving back just enough to always re-applying the tackle and keep it going.

    In my experiance, most ewar drones are usefull for specialists in small gangs, as well as ecm effective on any ship.
    I use sensor dampening drones on my ecm boats to nullify relocking speed, as well as giving myself a higher chance to remain out of range. I use a set of neutralizing drones on my cap warfare ships, to keep a target that is neuted out of cap, while focussing on the next, If i know i am going to be fighting triglavians, i use tracking disrupter drones. They are usefull in niche situations, but i will never recommend them to new players, or players that don't specialize in a certain role, or players that do mid to large battles.

    I think the purpose of EWAR drones is not so much effectiveness rather than flexibility. Think of most battleships having drone bays without any drone bonuses, slap some EWAR drones of a couple different types for different situations. Mind you, in order for them to not be quite as useless, the should be fixed as not to give up quite so frequently.

    • @eventon9372
      @eventon9372  2 роки тому +1

      I agree, but the effectiveness is REALLY lacking when only 1 (EC-300s) out of the total 18 possible ewar drones are ever being used. I have some ideas on how to make them a bit more viable. Thanks for the comment!

    • @TECHN01200
      @TECHN01200 2 роки тому

      @@eventon9372 Yeah, in order for flexibility to exist, they at the very least need some sort of effectiveness. Assuming they don't quit, maybe have something like a 7 - 10% slow per drone based on size for webs for example. Sure, it is still weaker than a t1 web, but you save a slot, the cap and it still goes out further than your standard web. (Those slow values would lead to 30-40% slow with a full fleet of drones. These were just values I pulled out of my ass.)

    Thank you for your hard work. Honestly I cannot imagine the grind you had to go through to collect all this information and you must have had some great stimulus to keep you from quitting half way.
    It kind of makes sense to have the small drones be most suitable for smaller ships and scaling. However the usefulness of only using drones for a specific application is limited. Using drones to give you a last nudge, that is something I can see happening but solely relying on drones for a specific purpose ... hard to imagine. It would be cool to have ships dedicated to ECM drones; very annoying and a niche application, but cool nevertheless.

    sad to see the web and paint drones being so bad, I may have a niche for them. missile boats without drone bonuses. if you want to throw torps at frigates, you better make them big and slow. With the way drone aggro works nowadays you can't just have a flight of drones kill the small stuff while you shoot the big stuff, that's very tedious. but switching to precision ammo takes time, so maybe for that little bit or PvE efficiency it may work. may try that out later.

    The dampen drones have worked for me before. If they proc. If they don't proc then they are no good. Getting the skills to max level can help. I know the 4 to 5 doesn't seem like much but it's a massive multiplier at the very end. I love running ewar ships in fleets. It cam seriously make or break people.
    We need an EWAR cap that isn't the faux or the carrier. One specialized at wear against subcaps. It seems strategically a very plausible ship to have on a battle field.

    Nice work. My only question would be how effective are they in fleets. Sure 5 don't do much but if you have 25 of them on the same target are we still seeing the same poor results? My guess is that would not be the case and is the reason they have such poor stats. I have seen ECM drones completely change a fight. I may have to try talking a small fleet roam to bring some tackle or nueting drones to see what they can do in mass.

    over the years i have used drones of all sorts from my observations and understanding of mechanics i will give you what i think is happening
    the problem your talking about the drones falling off and seemingly giving up they are not its actually a drone mechanic they basically have a chase max speed they then have an orbit speed once they catch the enemy they apply ewar and go into orbit velocity to continually apply active cycle they fall back and then need to chase down again to get into range that's also giving some of the inconsistencies you see if they fall to far from the target you need to retell the drone to attack i have 2 buttons on my mouse always set to drones attack target and recall all drones
    2 ways to make ewar slightly better without over powering it increase top speed range and drastically increase orbit speed or give each ship a bonus to one or other
    you did get the order of usefulness right
