This is the best modern Spider-Man artist. I didn't realize it, but yes most of the modern promotional Spider-Man art is Bagley's.
Bagley was a welcome change to Spider-Man in the 90's because his art fit with that modern Extreme style McFarlane and Larsen introduced, but was cleaner and simpler and quite frankly much better than his two predecessors. And it seems Bags respects the foundation made by classis Spidey artists, so it's good to hear Gill Kane was his favorite. Also, Bags really should be proud of Carnage because he's really the only Spidey villain introduced since the 90's that anyone really cares about.
I'm glad he went with the final Carnage design, but his original drawing kind of looks like Scream.
I also liked hearing him talk about Ultimate Spider-Man. That was the BEST Spider-Man book of the 2000's and best Spider-Man comic since his run with Michilinie on Amazing in the mid 90's. I feel Bags never got to fully shine on Amazing because quite honestly the book was never the same after Spidey got married and McFarlane changed the art. Ultimate didn't have that baggage and it was great to see some consistency in those comics since Bagley and Bendis did 111 issues together and we got to see Peter Parker's growth as a hero a bit more since things like his origin and his time as a teenager was took a bit more time in Ultimate.
Long comment I know, but great interview.
