An emotional end to the story. V played brilliantly🔥 V and IU conveyed their emotions amazingly and their chemistry was excellent. The most powerful moment were when V protected her to the last and IU closed one of V’s eyes so that he wouldn’t see all this! Love!

I beleive V is deaf and blind in one eye.because if you watch it again she taps his shoulder to get his attention and she is doing sign language to V. If she was deaf he would be doing it to her..this is my understanding of it..sorry Shiki it mad you sad..l have watched it 10 times and cry everytime😢

Tae's acting was perfect😍 This song and mv are so beautiful
When she covers Tae's good eye, so he can't see what going to happen and then that tear drops from her eye, I lost it. I tried holding back tears but to look into that camera lens and see them taken away, the tear drop and then their clothes falling. I fell apart. They did that in 5 minutes and this film had me from the beginning. I couldn't even tell you what the lyrics were or what the song was, I was blown away by the video!
Taehyung gave all the emotions in 5 minutes. Soooo good.

I feel the same as you Shiki. I was an emotional wreck after watching it the first time. The acting was so on point. Can I just say that my hope is that one day Tae finds a partner that takes care of him and loves him like IU's character in the video.

There are so many layers of story telling and metaphors and the director has explained what the storyline is. It’s a beautiful way for him to convey the message. In addition to this one part of my interpretation is based on the fact that Tae is blind in one eye and has burn scars around that eye. You can see at the beginning he is looking vulnerable, fragile and afraid. IU is leading him and is protective throughout. My interpretation is that he had encountered the cube before and narrowly escaped being captured and so is going through all the emotions from it. At the end, you see IU trying to protective him by picking up the metal bar because (to me) she knows what he went through and wants to protect him. And Tae taking the bar and attacking the cube looks to me like he knows what the cube is capable of and despite his fear of it, he wants to protect her. At the end it didn’t work and you can see the cube glow red with heat and smoke coming off their bodies (burn marks around his eyes). The ending was so poignant.
The song was amazing and felt more epic because of the storyline and visuals. They have great chemistry, first with the amazing duet they did on IU’s Palette and now with their acting skills, not to mention their interactions as friends. It’s so good to see Tae being able to express his acting skills even in a 5minute short. I hope he starts doing movies on his return. This movie really makes everyone feel emotional and they did that with their facial expressions, truly stunning. IU is queen for a reason and Tae our idol of idols never disappoints in his unique take on life and the choices he makes, whether to make an album of music he likes or to act in a short film all choices with a sad, emotionally moving ending. He wants his artistry to move us emotionally rather than hit the top spots on charts. Love these two artists. It’s time to stop calling this kpop.

The director said that the cube represents the discrimination people face by society 😢the cube hunts down these people that are considered "faulty" in this society and annihilates them. Here IU is deaf and Taehyung is blind and they love each other, but the society won’t let them be happy by discriminating against them.Perhaps the message behind this video is the discrimination people feel and experience. It was so beautiful that they stayed together and comforted each other till the very end. IU was tapping in sign language "I love you" to Tae (on his shoulder) and hiding his good eye so he doesn't have to be face to face with it 🥺

“This was why I always liked circles more than squares.” 😂 thank you for finding a way to make me laugh in such a sad video. IU and Tae knocked the acting out of the park, and IU’s voice is so beautiful. There was a moment in the lyrics that gave me pause when she was saying, “our love wins all, love wins all”, that, even though the cubes had destroyed the world, and killed all the people whose clothes were left behind, but it could not destroy their love. They may have died, but their Love was there till the end. So finally, the title of the MV made sense to me.
Both of them did an amazing job of portraying all the emotions. And IU's voice never fails. 😢💜
Enjoy both IU and V’s acting so much. IU took care of V like an elder sister, so protective of him. Always hold his hand and went into an unknown place first. V’s behaviors are innocent and playful just sooo ‘childishly cute’. Even in the ‘wedding’ part, V’s facial expressions are just like a little boy. I think that’s why at the end when the ‘cube’ came to them, IU did not hesitate to stand in front of V and determined to fight. V probably tried to protect IU the first time. we could see how scared he was but still pull out all his strength and attack the ‘cube’. When they both realized there was no way to survive, IU came up with that V was ‘little’ and must be terrified, then she covered V’s one good eye with her hand gently to ease him. Such a sad, yet beautiful MV. Thank IU and V.❤❤❤
A few things you may have missed. This is one of the theory. There are many others too :-
1) IU is deaf/mute and V is blind in one eye as you already guessed. She uses sign language in the dinner table if you notice.
2) The cube represents the society which discriminates against people having disabilities thus eliminating them.
3) However Love truly wins all. IU and V stayed together because of their true love.
4) The camrecorder shows how the world would have been if the society didn't discriminate against them.
5) They would have get married happily. If you see the scene where IU was singing in the mic and Tae puts a flower on her ear, the people in the back were pointing fingers at them.
6) The whole mv was mainly shown from the pov of IU. You can see how she always put herself in the danger first and tries to protect Tae, how tenderly she loved him, her touches were so gentle as she saw his normal eye through the cam. But Tae loved her too. At the end of their life, he puts himself in front and tried to break the box. Tae was not your alpha male. They both are equally scared but when time comes, they can sacrifice themselves for the other. This is true love.
7) The three taps on Tae's chest at the end of the mv where Jieun was hugging him from behind indicates i love you in sign language.
ANOTHER THEORY -
The cube represents inevitable death. IU and V remember their memories when they were younger through the cam recorder. How happy they were. They run away from death, wanting to spend more time with each other but at the end, they can't run away from death. It's bound to happen.
I don't she's deaf. They're hiding from the cube aliens, they cannot talk because they would get caught. Given that there's spiderwebs on the restaurant they might be hiding for some time and maybe developed a way to communicate by signs

Shiki, I've watched so many reactions yesterday and I believe you are the one that I liked the best. You and I have reacted the same way. It broke my heart too and no matter how many times I watched it, I still tear up. Tae acting showed his emotions very well. He is a true Idol in all aspects.

this was one of the most heartbreaking and beautiful MVs I have seen in a long time. made me cry so much! I do want to add that I dont think the happy scenes were of the past. the camera they were using filtered out the sadness and pain, so when they looked into the camera, they saw their current world but in a "normal" happy setting. thats why when they pretended to eat, the other person watched through the lens of the camera and was able to see the filtered fantasy version of them being perfectly healthy and eating real food. same with the wedding photos. the camera shows the happy version, the what could have been.
I cried so much watching this... when she covered his eye at the end... this was so painful and yet such a beautiful romance... they need to star in a drama as the main couple... 😭😭😭😭😭

We had the same reactions in the same places. 😄 I have been crying over this MV for two days now. I have a love/hate relationship with the "happy" part of the story because they made it JUST long enough that you can actually get lost in it and get comfortable and feel like everything is going to be ok...and then the cube appears. Sigh. 😔

I know, Shiki, I know. I was heartbroken, too. Honestly, i have cried every single time i have seen this MV/film. Even during reactors' repeat playing of certain poignant scenes, i cried. The acting by IU and Taehyung just evoked these emotions again and again. Yes, let's fight these cubes! These dastardly cubes can represent someone whose words can cut like a knife. This is such a dramatic MV! IU also an actress and singer, then V also having done acting and singer. IU is deaf in this MV and yes, V is blind in one eye. Others have explained parts you may have missed. Sadly, the pile of clothes they saw in the beginning and you see at the end were the clothes of others taken away by the cubes. I’ve been watching some K dramas lately too and they are similar with touching endings. Except for the action Korean movies…I want to cry each time I see this and so wish they could do a movie or something together! 💜💞🇨🇦
Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone that he can hear what is coming but she can't while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.
Since I have become a k fan, this is the first mv that had shaken the kdrama industry... Like seriously both iu and v acting 🤧🤧,

Five minutes long, but it goes by so quickly, yet says everything it needs to say. The cube is a strange shape to use, but it is stark and unforgiving, maybe representing critics, haters, the narrow minded in our society, the faceless entities that can cause pain through computers & phones, being able to show no mercy because they are hidden within. Tae and IU did a wonderful job, you can see the pain and fear in Tae, caused by what is within that box and the protective manner of IU, trying to shield him from more, brought no doubt from her own experiences . Beautiful. Love is definitely all. 😢💜👏👏👏

"Part of me wishes I never saw this video." Truer words have never been spoken. Bittersweet for sure. I needed the laugh because this MV always makes me cry.
I loveeee the MV, it really felt like a short movie😢😢😢 I know there is an official interpretation, but I believe art is open to any interpretation, so here goes my 2 cents: if we kind of interpret it not only symbolically but also taking into conseration the world they are in, it can be said that they live in a dystopian reality, where any form of nonconformism is eliminated. Thus, since they decided to rebel, like those people before them, they knew the risk, but still decided to face it together, amd try to escape it, but eventually even they failed and had to be got rid of because they didn't fit the "perfect" nption of this world artifically created. The wounds and injuries they have might have been the proof of their previous rebellion against the system, the fake reality they don't want to live in, which Led to their moment we meet them: escape and eventual oblivion😭
I was ok until you said ' if the cube wants clothes '... hahaha... 'this is why I like circles more than squares' hahaha... I still bawled like a baby since I first saw it yesterday, especially since the pile of clothing reminded me of Spring Day..... Thank you Shiki for lightening the mood briefly 💜

Also important to note the song lyrically is dedicated to IU’s fans who have accompanied her through out all the highs and lows according to the letter she released before this release. Her letter was very touching. It’s also a message that in the age of hate, love truimphs and is always more powerful.
I’ve included the key points that IU’s agency released yesterday morning from their official MV interpretation guide (I’ve noticed many skip parts of it) from the director at the end of my comment (my comment is my initial thoughts and reactions before reading the interpretation guide.)
For those who want to know the ‘official’ intended meaning of MV feel free to skip and scroll to the end of my comment.
It’s so interesting to see how wrong some of us were… and how right some of us were re Tae being partially visually impaired and IU being speech impaired… and I was pleased that some of the points I was right on but I totally didn’t pick up on the ending being positive actually… an ‘freeing them from oppression and pressure’. I thought it was a sad ending initially. So I’m comforted to know it’s not. It’s so interesting to rewatch the MV after reading the official interpretation guide too. I think it’s a good lesson on our very preconceived ideas of love.
Personally when I first watched it… the MV moved me to tears. The song was intricately and exquisitely beautiful… IU’s Vocals gave me goosebumps. The subtlety in the acting was perfection and the visuals by both… just wow. Tae in all his sweetness, softness and gentleness was honestly the definition of prettiness. There was something so beautifully vulnerable and delicate about him, that touched my soul.
In terms of the meaning… In the Korean press releases of this song used in all the articles day before yesterday… IU said that: ‘I want to respect and support everyone who loves and lives in various ways with love rather than hate’ this and the statement, before when the song was called Love Wins was released, which talked about people who face prejudices and obstacles in love… Personally make me think that it’s showing that many people in love face stigma’s and obstacles for whatever reason in life for things that they are born with and have no control over. Personally I think when they look through the camera they see the perfect world in which everyone can live without the lens of hate where people don’t see you or judge you for your stigma’s or labels but they see the whole you. Another thing that I find beautiful with the sign language involved is that both IU and Tae have a history of sign language. IU with her ear condition and Tae has communicated in official sign language many times (his birthday is even celebrated by some of the deaf community in S.K). When it comes to the box that is chasing them, I take it as society trying to put us in a box… I also feel the box was representing the hate that tears people down and strips them of their humanity out of prejudice. Personally I feel there was a wider message in this MV and feel that Tae very specifically chose to appear in this MV because of the message. I’ve lost count of times over the years where he has said he would like to side with the marginalised or the minority in life. From the creation of his drawn characters in numerous content, to his BT21 character, to his fairytale character he chose in the 7th Army Zip content that was tragically killed for being different. I feel like this MV very much fits with that ethos of representing and identifying with the marginalised in society. Also I think the message that love allows us to see the world with a healing and whole lens too. When IU sings ‘all love wins’ in amongst the lyrics I got goosebumps.

All of BTS are good actors, they've had so much experience with MVs and other media. But man I'd really love to see these 2 in a kdrama for real

IU produced and did the lyrics. her mvs always have deeper meaning. There's a sign (1:24) when they first come in to the place when they find the camcorder that reads " " RISE FOR ALL" ...think thats a social commentary for the oppressors and for state of world , esp. these days. Most missed that sign..cause IU and V are so captivating. lol IU can't speak and V cant see out one eye... cube is like hate/society projections.Maybe we have to start standing up for love and for others discriminated or oppressed?
I feel IU and V have seen so much of how South Korea media, police and citizens can cause so much hate, pressure and judgement that people start to commit suicides at times. IU has known least 3 close idol young friends that exp this. Also recently, in headlines. Famous Actor from oscar winning movie "parasite" had recently passed due to all the pressure of media police, even though he was found negative in his drug tests. IU was main lead actress to him in a different show called. "My Mister". What an amazing message and masterpiece, truly deserves a Award in every category.
