I'd love to see a video # 6 to get to see your finished product. Many thanks for the vids. I'm in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, and the climate is pretty similar to yours (I think) except we have a dry July and August.
I find it takes a year (at least) after this for them to cure naturally. The tobacco smell and taste really starts to come through with time. I usually de-stem them as well for the long cure. As this is where the leaf retains most of the moisture and therefore is most susceptible to mould.
For cigars yes. Not needed for cigs, u can speed it up and do it in a couple of weeks. But them in a place as hot and moist as u can and have a fan blowing on/through it. U also get more nicotine. Thats how ryo and cigs are made
@@stageiiwappie950 I'll try what you suggested. Thanks. I've had partial success once, and also complete failure other years. Mould etc.. but I understand this is where the airflow is required, as you have pointed out. I think a cupboard with a heatmat and fan, with inlet and outlet to assist airflow might work. I've seen people using old fridges with a slow cooker inside, filled with water to increase the humidity and temperature. So this isn't really needed then? Thanks again. 😊
@@PhilipGwilliam i dont really think a inlet and outlet vents are needed, as just air moving inside would prevent mold. U should also shake things and move leaves around manually sometimes if its really moist. The heat and moist just speed things up, but also give high risk on mold. So u should play with it and find out what works best for u. U get a feeling for it. I dont think theres any definite method, but doing it fast is riskier. This year i will try pack the moist leaves tight in plastic with some holes and put them in the sun or on the heater. But i will have to watch them very carefully Just try and learn is what we all should do i guess
Brilliant just watching these videos I already know lots of balls up I've made, thx for sharing desi, can you do a video on best way to actually process the leaves and keep them dry
Do you have a video of what to do after you cure them IE: The progress from cured leaves to rolling it in paper and lighting it up. :) I don't see a video of that on your channel?
What? There's no limit. Use a whole 10 acres if you want... You just can't sell it. I COULD be wrong based on state laws. But federally and in every state I've ever lived there is no limit.
Thank you so much for your videos that have encouraged me to have a go. A couple of questions. Do they need feeding? Do they appreciate manure or not? Do the tall GV plants need staking? - Every good wish - Paul
Very helpful video Desi. Thank you. On my first attempt I used the seeds raped in clay, put them in the Poly tunnel but did not use a propagator, also planted them to deep. Only got a 20% growth rate instead of 90%. I planted outside too early and most died, except for eight and three were destroyed be the dog. I now have 5 outside one of them has been destroyed be a Mole going through the roots. I have 8 Turkish 10 Tennessee only one Virginia gold left out of 50 of each, these I planted in pots an kept them in the poly tunnel. Moved some of them outside as they started to go through the roof of the poly tunnel. Can you please tell me what time of year you are harvesting in the video or do you make your own judgement based on the weather conditions. Again thank you Desi, I should have better harvest next year.
StevePerry85 it sounds a bit like my attempt last year. Everything had a go at them - slugs, snails, butterfly larvae. Even the local badgers were talking with a Kentucky drawl. Having watched this video next season should be better.
Great to watch all going to give it a go this year lol if you mix Burley and Virginia in a roll your own is it a nice smoke ?happy growing for this year stay safe
Hi/ya Desi, I watched and followed your videos last year and had a great Harvest, Thank you, but how do you get rid of the old stalks after harvest, do the eventually break down with the compost as we ain't allowed bonfires on site, Cheers mate and keep the videos coming.
Could you please let me know when you plant the seeds, put them out side and when they are fully grown. I have the Tennessee Burly, Virginia Gold and Turkish Basra. Thank You.
They'd be putting themselves in it because it's less than legal. You wanna wait until it's cured and fermented, shred it, then spray it with flavorings, molasses and rum
If I rolled it into a cigar how long will it take before I can smoke it. Good work mate. tobacco plant grows very tall, I thought it grows like lattice .
Virginia. It's the curing that determines type. I believe Drum is air cured, usually in open ended barn. Finished with controlled heat, in a shed you could use a winter greenhouse heater.
hi have you any links to where i can buy the other seeds from all i can seem to find on ebay is golden virgina seeds which i have grown this year thanks to your videos. all my best simon
Looks suckered out. That tobacco needs the flower broke off three weeks before harvest. Once the flower is broke off and sucker control is out on the leaves will grow bigger
However there is one rule here which is important, you can grow tobacco in the UK and dry it legally as long as it not for commercial use. you can even dry it and chop it up to a smoke-able product provided you do not sell it. You should check the laws in your area to see what you can do.
Yes, it is completely legal to grow your own tobacco as long as it is to be smoked by yourself, however the usual duty obligations still apply once your tobacco is in a form in which it can be smoked.
2.10 Private individuals and payment of duty on tobacco products made from tobacco grown themselves A private individual must pay the duty on any tobacco products that they make from tobacco which they have grown. This applies whether the tobacco products are intended for sale or solely for the grower’s own consumption. Anyone intending to manufacture tobacco products must comply with the conditions set out in this notice. You must register the premises which you use to make tobacco and complete form TP7A to account for all tobacco products that you have manufactured for your own consumption and on which duty is due. While all registration applications will be considered on a case by case basis, it is highly unlikely that home premises will meet the registration requirements. (See paragraph 4.5 on the conditions that must be met before we would consider registering premises for the manufacture of tobacco.)

In the USA it's legal to grow up to one tenth of an acre of tobacco. More than that requires permits which are expensive 😢.

What will you do with all that tobacco? I grew some last year and have too much still even though I gave a lot away.

When buds are dry just take them off.if you growing more then 1 variety then put bag on flower to prevent cross pollination

Perfect weather down there mate
smokin that home grown boyeeeee
Hi Desi, when they are brown and crispy is that when you can shred and then smoke, or is they another video pls
What was your total dried weight with that plot of land?
Just ordered seeds, how do you prep the leaves ready for rolling
Where do you order your seeds ?
Personally I just like to smoke it but putting small leaves in the bottom is one way I guess 😅
Great crop there.
Thanks again Desi
Great stuff
Any suggestions on how to do without tilling so as to keep the soil good and not kill worms?
Drill by hand?
Skip gym for a week and do it by hand using a shovel. It sucks so hard for the body but you get the workout out of it plus the tilling.
thank you two years later
Bro, where did you get seeds from?
Ebay
Do you have to harden them off before leaving them outside?
If I rolled it into a cigar how long will it take before I can smoke it. Good work mate. tobacco plant grows very tall, I thought it grows like lattice .
If tobacco is fermented then it shouldn't take long just need to dry
Amazing thanks!
So what was your yield approximately after drying desi???
Scott Wallace it was enough to go through year until next year batch came in
Desi Gardening thank you for your answer desi
Thank you
And the fermentation??
Whats it like smoking home grown tobacco, is it much more stronger than for example if I went to the shops and brought a pack of cutters choice
Ashley miller you can blend it to your taste some tobacco are strong
And some are light.my one is light blend and i am use to on that
Desi Gardening cool thank you
its stronger than the stuff in the shops but i find you are best mixing it with brought tobacco unless you grow more than one variety to mix it with

Thanks bro
I’m drying mine under sun, is it better do it in the shed ? You think ??
You must have to dry in shade
