As much as I love the Harrier, it was getting old and it's maintenance became unsustainable. Sure the wait has been inconvenient but the F35B will be an upgrade from the Harrier in every regard.

George Jones With respect, I disagree with you. Takes three times the manpower to maintain a Tornado in the field and at base and they’re just as old and very expensive to run (burns heaps more fuel for starters) but they kept that flying, didn’t they? That’s why the crabs killed Harrier. SDSR came up and they protected their manpower holy cows. Played a blinder and saw the RN off massively. Who wants a capable little puff jet that doesn’t go WWOOOSH, that only needs one man to fly it, that’s cheap as chips, doesn’t need a stack of spanner wankers to run it, is first rate at CAS and makes the RN look good? Not the RAF, that’s for sure. How do I know? JFH from 2009-2012, and HEMC at Wittering. They could have kept Harrier going and they chose to sacrifice it and the thing that really stuck in my throat was watching Cameron repeat lies in Parliament about how tornado was the better, “more capable” platform. Then Libya happened and we had to fly the jets out from Italy at loads more cost than we could have done from the CVS. HNS is great when you can get it - for everything else, you need an aircraft carrier. We’ve done without them for far too long. F35B is a game changer for sure but we should have kept some kind of carrier presence and Harriers out to 2018-20. PS - ex QNLZ ship’s company too, so I know whereof I speak with that. There’s a strong argument to say we shouldn’t have pursued big carriers at the expense of the rest of the fleet. We’ve created a rod for our own backs to some extent, amazing though the ships are.

Love this channel . Among many things , I think it's a great source of info and insight for those anti war, far lefties and other so called "anti forces" . It shows great insight and depth into what our forces are really all about , as well as how essential they are to keeping everyone in the UK safe including the loud mouths and forces haters. It shows too not only how awesome our guys are on the front lines in "theatre" but also how essential our forces are on the "front lines" of world stage politics and diplomacy . God bless the British forces and the sacrifices both seen and unseen our boys and girls make to ensure everyone in the UK and further afield continue to live in an equal and democratic society built on the backs and lives of men of women for generations who delivered and maintain our liberties and safety 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Good to see that our pilots are keeping their air to air dogfighting skills sharp. It was never the focus when air opposition over Iraq or Afghanistan was non-existent but you never know when there will be a problem with a country that does have its own air force like Argentina back in 1982. Back then Sea Harriers went up against Argentinian Mirages which were faster and meant for air combat. On paper it should have been the Mirages every time but the Royal Navy showed them what was what then too.

I like these jets, it's by far the most amount of jets Britain has, 300 odd of them! But the new upgraded ones are great, we should weaponise them properly for reserve dutys.

its fighter-35 then b is the variant mate. its a multi-role fighter like the eurofighter typhoon. The only instance i know of f being used on a bomber was the f117 nighthawk.

Riding - These Jets are what the Red Arrows use and they are extremely good - I doubt many pilots would want to dogfight against an RAF Hawk for real.
