Thanks for the review!
FWIW, about 90% of users sleep the same direction (rather than head to foot). One side does have more inward slope at their head while the other side has more inward slope at the feet, but normally those low corners are just gear storage anyways. The person with the low slope at their head slides down to have gear storage above their head, while the other person slides up to have gear storage at their feet. Then both people are out of the low areas and side by side. If someone is quite tall (e.g. 6'4") then it's best to put them on the side with more room at the head end. We only suggest sleeping opposite ways if both people are quite tall.
My husband and I sleep in the same direction in this tent. We got our hands on it during the most recent drop and have spent a handful of nights in it. As the one who sleeps with my head on the low slope side, I can confirm that it is perfectly comfortable. I sleep on a 3 inch pad with an inflatable pillow and I haven’t once felt that the netting is too close for comfort. When we retreated to the tent to wait out a rainstorm during an trip last week, we sat up inside facing one another with our heads in the peaks. But for sleeping, it works out just fine to face the same direction.
Our experience to this point is that this tent is absolutely worth every bit of hype. We can’t wait to log even more nights in it.
@@kimbailey1754 Glad to hear it! It's nice how the diagonal ridgeline lets you sit further apart while both having good headroom. A lot of tents just have one high point where you're both competing for that same headroom.
Great to hear all the reports of people sleeping head-to-head! I did sleep more on the "low" end and it wasn't too bad for me. Good to know I can stick my vertically challenged girlfriend over there and it'll be spacious for her.
I can't wait to get my hands on this! I'm doing the Superior Hiking Trail Sept 7th and I am SOOO bummed I cant get this tent for the trip! I won't even compromise and I'm not spending $700+.
Agree, we slept in the same direction, but we never had an issue with headroom. I have a 4-inch pad and a pillow.
As an X-Mid 2P owner who has slept it in, I can say it is worth the hype.
Own and a X-Mid 1P and I absolutely love it. Last trip had 8-9 hours of heavy rain, stayed bone dry despite a garbage pitch. Broke down the inner and threw in my pack, rainfly on the outside of my pack. It’s amazing.
My wife and I always sleep the same direction with no problem ;) X-Mid 2P for life!
Got one from my husband this easter. He's a keeper 💕😁
Glad you liked it.
DD X-mid 1p owner who has multiple nights in it it’s a great tent. Obviously the smaller version but for what it doesn’t have on inside mesh space it makes up in tons of vestibule space. As far as set up and take down in rain the inner is able to be separated to keep it dry while under the fly. I also use an extra 4 stakes, 1 on each door and 1 for each of the included guylines. Thanks for review.
Also DD is awesome and stands behind his gear always commented on drop with answers to questions and any other reputable forum that sold or reviewed his gear.
That’s what I was going to comment on. Yes it’s a great tent, but Dan is really what sold me on it. I read an interview with him and was shocked to hear he has a job! He seems to be constantly answering people’s questions and helping solve problems. I know it’s sold by Drop and now Amazon but it really like there is a person behind the product who thought it through and stands behind it.
I've had some chats with Dan and read a bunch of interviews and really respect his approach and attention to detail. It really shines through in the tent. Tara and him also just seem like genuinely good people.
I have a copper spur 2, and wanted a lighter tent for an upcoming trip and got the xmid 1p tent. It's easy to set up and spacious enough for my needs. Great value for this tent.
This is great, Justin. In field videos like this are the way to do it!
I LOVE my X-Mid 1P I got from Mass Drop (DROP). Small, light, well thought out and once you do it couple of times, easy and fast to set up. I love the 2 doors, the pockets, the overheard storage and vestibules.
got mine this spring... will use it for the first time in two weeks... so stoked... thanks for the vid!!
I have the X-Mid 1P and I am embarrassed to say I haven't used it yet as I got it in the winter, but snapped it up cause they do sell out quickly when they come in. Have to say Justin, you do the best gear reviews, and I appreciate your gear geekiness cause you know your shit!! Thanks to Justin and Dan Durston for the Canadian Content that we need more of in the backpacking community. Appreciate you guys so much!!
Thanks for the awesome comment! I'd love to do another video about the X-mid with Dan and Tara Durston and just nerd out about it!
I have the x-mid 1p and it’s worth the hype IMHO. I put it through a wind and rain test recently and it performed very well👍
I have the x-mid 1p as well and, it is more than worth the hype. Love this tent.
Was it quite drafty inside?
@@HarvyDangerFilms Agreed. I love that tent!
I got the 1 person. Its epic. My friend was lucky enough to get the 2 person when they dropped. Its even more epic! I have been using mine since the fall and absolutely love it. Feels vintage yet spaced aged at the same time.
Its really weird though. It always looks crooked. Makes my ocd a bit on edge. But once I got past that strange crookedness its sooo cool. It is worth the hype. 1 or two person is amazing. So easy to set up. And surprisingly very sturdy to winds and storms. Mine has been in some pretty good rain storms . Never leaked. Never drooped. I love it. Great tents for tall people as well, Which is extremely hard to find for the price! The 1 person is actually giant if you don't use the mesh. I was able to fit both my dogs , my gear and me in it as a shelter tent before the bugs came out. With the 2 person you could probably fit a small family under it without the mesh . Some don't like the gigantic footprint needed to place it but I kinda like it. Both tents looks small from the outside but feel like a palace once you are in em.
For me and my friend these tents were a no brainer purchase. Quality Ultralight tents are usually like 500-1000 Canadian. I am happy to finally be able to afford a light tent that won't break my wallet and support a local Canadian hiker in the process. I was torn between this and the Lanshan 2 but once I heard the backstory to The Xmid and who made it, I figured I would spend a few bucks more and get it. Not once have I regretted my purchase. I hope he can make more of them and get them to the public. Even my hunting friends are jealous of mine. Everyone who see's it always asks about it. It always seems to be a conversation piece at camp. Which is a great thing. Dan Durston Xmid tents are worth the hype and then some.
I am also a big fan of Dan and the story of this tent. The amount of thought that went into this tent is evident. I can't wait to see what else he has up his sleeves!
When you say tall people, are you talking 6’4” tall fit in the tent without head and foot box touching?
@@shaggyterrell8460 I got the tent, sans stakes, but I haven’t set it up yet. I’ve been doing more of the hammock thing. Thanks for the reply.
My husband and I sleep in this tent facing the same direction on two 25-inch-wide pads and it is so comfortable and spacious feeling. We love it.
Love hearing this! Can't wait to get out in it with my girlfriend!
Just recently scored both Xmid-1 and the Xmid-2 but haven't had a chance to try them yet. Looking forward to getting them out on the trail!
On the flip side of the weather. Not snow but warm weather you can open both doors and have good ventilation and stay bug free inside with the inner tent. If you want to drop the inner tent , then use the outer tent as a tarp shelter. I have the X-Mid 1P which is great for solo camping. Especially the extra room inside for the backpack and gear.
I am so happy I got it even before all the hype about it. Got a 2 person tent out of drop already last year. I love it so much!
Nice review! I was fortunate to get my XMID2P this winter and the first thing I did was add cordage on the tie outs. I only have 2 nights out in it so far but have no complaints so far with winter trips.
Love my xmid 2p, used it back in feb for 2 nights both accumulated more than 6 inches of snow. It held up remarkably well for the snow load. This is my first trekking pole tent and i found it rather easy to set up. So far i have 0 complaints.
Thanks for covering this tent! We felt we had to buy blind because so few reviews, but so far we are really loving it. Worth the wait
Great review as usual! Dan's the real deal and listens to the folks who use his gear.
Great video! I’ve got the XMID 1p and absolutely love it!
This tent is cool and I am a loyal hammock camper! Nice change of pace in design! Well done Justin!!
I've taken my xmid 1p on 3 or 4 trips so far this year and love it!
One of my fav UA-camrs with my favourite tent. Excellent
We love ours. I like that the pole isn’t front of the door so it’s easier to get in and out. We need another one for our family trip this summer but they won’t be available til fall 😞. As far as the sleeping head to foot, my husband went with another six foot guy and they slept head to head no problem. I think you could sleep side by side with your girlfriend no problem. Pretty sure Dan and his wife do as well.
You're right, we do! Basically one "partner" will have a slightly more sloped ceiling in their face, but honestly, I always sleep with the sloping ceiling, with a dog at my feet, so that basically makes me over 6 feet long as far as space goes. If I didn't have a dog at my feet, I would just shuffle my body down further, or I could always put my dog at my head.
I'm not going to ask how you know how Tara and Dan sleep in the tent H M ;). Good to know it works for you Tara!
@@JustinOutdoors just from watching her videos of the GDT... I think. Or reading it somewhere. Not sure :)
Looks like a pretty sweet tent. I'm envious of the late season snow
Another solid review
Dan let you use his tent!?! That’s awesome. He and his wife are legends. I have the x-mid 1p and it’s so great.
They are legends! Have watched both of their thru-hike videos of the GDT a couple of times. The outdoors community is lucky to have them
I'm a hammock person, but I just order the x mid 2 pro. I got it for when I take my grandkids. Also for those few times I go somewhere where a hammock isn't feasible or possible. I also ordered the Nemo tensor long wide as I'm pretty tall. Looking forward to trying it out. Thank you for sharing! Have a great day and another great video!
I’ve had the 1p since it’s original drop and my wife gave me the 2p for Christmas this year since my boy is old enough to come along. I love them both. Plenty of space. Great tent.
Justin really just dropped a banger for us on a plain tuesday... Thank you
Thanks for doing this video. Had a lot of people recommended this tent to me
I have the X-Mid 1P. I've used it it on snow and during snowfall. Those corner cordage only work in ideal spots. I've added 4 feet guylines using Andrew Skurka's method and it has been working really well. There is no way you can use snow stakes with those short lines that come with the tent. I will probably cut the line locs off this summer. The only downside for me is the inner mesh, which obviously droops, and decreases the useable space without touching the mesh. On the 1P you can hack a little and tie the outer door tieback to the inner mesh tieback loop. This pulls the inner mesh away and makes it roomier.
You can take a MSR snow stake that has the holes in the stake and tie a cord to it with a loop. Then get a small carabiner clip bury the snow stake then with the attached clip clip on to the fly cord. I learned that in Norway. They all do it ..it fast just unsnap the clip and your done
I have and XMID 1P and XMID 2P and no longer use my Lanshan 1P and 2P tents or REI Quarterdome 2P. Can't say enough about how good the XMIDs are. I guess the only downside right now is availability.
Can you tell me why you would use 1p or 2p?
Another great review Justin! I have the 1 person tent on my wish list and was wondering how it would go during Aussie Winters 🤭 and, well, your video of it set up in the Canadian Spring where it's still snowing, has well and truly blown away any concerns I had.😂🤣
I really like how it sets up and the fact that you don't need traditional tent poles, plus the bonus of having 2 vestibules as well, so you can have your gear on one side and use the other to get in and out.
Love your work Justin. Cheers Mate.
I have both tents. Definitely easy to set up. Have used both of them several times. The last trip, I had the xmid two. It was raining hard on my last night. I was kept toasty and dry until the wind picked up speed to 77 kms/h at 4am. Then things started flying. I was completely unprepared for strong winds, the shepherd hooks were inappropriate when the ground became so soft from the rain and the wind picked up. My tent was flattened until I borrowed extra generic pegs from my friend and double pegged everything, this helped the tent stand up to the strong winds even though it was set up with the widest side facing it.
Would I recommend this tent after my wild night, yes, but would be swapping out the pegs for something with more grip for most conditions despite the extra weight penalty.
One small detail to note! I found it easy to sleep head to head next to my GF by staggering the sleeping footprint. Since I am taller, it made for a natural fit!
All potential nitpicking aside for the 0.1% who care... thanks for the great video review!
BTW, I absolutely love this ultralight backpacking two-person tent! Several extra ounces for me to carry and several extra ounces for my GF to carry the stove, fuel, and cookware since we are sharing resources (or vice versa)!
Then it becomes a net weight savings for both of us.
Backpacking can be a team activity by spreading the ounces (unless you are a true lone-wolf-solo backpacker and if you are, please share comments or a link for all of us to review!).
Then we both save a few ounces! Looking forward to seeing some of you on the trails... somewhere at some point in time and space! Stay safe everyone!
I've got this exact same tent and I have tested with 2 wide pads. I am tall and my partner is an average height woman; we slept head to head. With 2 wide pads there is not extra space on the sides but there is space for gear storage at the head, foot, and the vestibules, and gear pockets. I really like this tent. I want to get a Pro (dynema $$$) version too for an ultralight option.
I sleep with my wife in it, both head to head with no problems. She tends to sleep on the low side. The tent is long enough to just scoot down a little, and it's heaps comfortable.
I'm hoping I can get out on a trip with my girlfriend before I send the tent back but I am stoked to hear from a few people that it isn't too bad head-to-head. On this trip, I did sleep on the "low" side to see what it was like and wasn't bad at all.
Ah that scenery has got me thinking snow! Thank you for the review and awesome scenery. What's that red hardshell jacket you're wearing at the end? Need to replace my old winter shell.
I got this tent in about October 2020, I was supposed to get a Durston backpack as well but that turned into a marathon that I gave up on. The tent is great, I live I the UK and have a lot of tents, US, European and British and I really like the X mid, though I don't think it would be my first choice for winter camping!
I have the Durston 1 Person tent and I love it. Great review!
I am looking at getting one for doing the Tour Mont Blanc. I have been through the Alps already and I don't want to rely on staying at the huts along the way. The weight and packed size of the tent is so little that it really shouldn't impact packing it. I want the 2 person over the 1 person, so I can use it when I have my dog with me. I have other camping tents, but nothing super lightweight. I have mountaineering tents in different configurations, weights and designs. The Direkt 2 tent I use for solo mountaineering just isn't water resistant enough to want to use it at lower elevations where it rains. It is nice to see you can use it in snow, but this video doesn't show the types of harsh weather you get while up on a mountain in exposed areas. I'd be interested in your thoughts of the tent if you have used it windy/rainy, harsh conditions. I am sold by the weight already, but no review I have seen shows how it performs in adverse conditions. I don't consider the snowy conditions in this video as being harsh or difficult at all, just cold.
love the colour on that, Price looks very fair as well. I'm not in the market for a new tent at the moment (love my MSR Freelite II :) ) but love double walled tents that are lightweight. This one looks quality!
I bought a Xmid 1P a year ago. I love it. You can sleep head to head in the 2P by centering yourselves in it. My 1P I bought off DROP landed at my door for $475 CA.
There's that purdy yeller WM again!
Did you see BC Parks along the GDT are off limits to Albertans until May 25th? I'm considering arriving in Waterton around that date to start my yoyo.
It sure is purdy! I've been keeping tabs on the restrictions for the GDT but am pretty optimistic with my August 1 start. Good luck on the yoyo!
@@JustinOutdoors Thanks bro, maybe we'll cross paths on my return. I'm using my 1P and a new SWD framless 30L custom. 12oz!
Thanks Justin, looks like a great tent. Originally sold for $280 delivered on Drop when I first checked into it
Own the 1P used it last weekend, worked great. I saw on the Durston web site the 2P DCF version coming this fall. As far as not getting one of these tents, seems to me that is how it is on all the gear being reviewed. Every time you want go to purchase something it is OUT OF STOCK!!!
I have the X-Mid 1P. I've only been able to test it out for a one-nighter so far, (stupid lockdowns in Ontario are never ending!) but I like it! Setting it up on frozen solid ground in Ontario on the Canadian Shield was tricky, but I got it done. It stayed up all night and I had no problem with condensation at all, even with a bit of sag in the walls. (Gotta love that Canadian Shield!)
I'm looking forward to a few short weekend trips, plus a 2 week long distance hike later this year. The 1P weighs about 1/3 what my freestanding North Face 1P weighs. It is well worth the price. I wanted something well made, durable, that's going to last me a couple of decades (I'll update you 😉) and was not made in China. The X-Mid ticks all the right boxes.
If I ever get a dog, I'll likely get a 2P. The 1P has no extra space. Unless I were to get a really little dog! 🐶😂
Also have 1p version . For setting it up on hard ground typically need to use rocks instead of stakes.
I've just ordered the X-Mid 2P, I'm expecting to receive it in February.. I have been looking at this tent for about a year now and am so excited to be getting one.
Pack down size/weight is the true bonus. Personally I don't care about 1 person tents, I rather this version, by myself and lotsa room for extra gear and kit.
Rad video as always! We are trying out our new ZPacks dublex this weekend. Thanks as always! Winter always makes for an interesting pitch!
I forgot to mention how cool your pack was too. went to the list to see what it was....that wasn't it...went to the other video....that wasn't it. Then the other. What I found was pretty much a different pack in every video. Justin...do you have a gear problem that you would like to discuss with the rest of us...before the intervention. I think it was a waymark...I'll look again but that yellow/black color is pretty cool.
That is the last gen Waymark Lite. The newer version has a frame.
Mine just arrived today. I can’t wait to use it.
I love my x-mid 2P I think everything are very well thought of.
I have the X-Mid 1, it truly is a top-notch tent. Can't bring myself to go back to my free-standing tents at this point. The fact that I only need 4 stake points-for fly and inner combined-is a huge selling point. Since I solo backpack I don't have a need for the X-Mid 2 (I fit all my gear, including backpack and camera equipment, inside the inner of the X-Mid 1), but I'd get it for sure if I needed room for two. Oh, and Dan Durston is the ultimate customer relations man. He continues to take the time to engage (with class) in discussions about his tent. Scroll down, you'll most likely see him commenting here.
Two things.
1. The head to foot thing is not a necessity. Does it mean that I have to crawl across my quilt to get to my door to get out? Yeah but that seems more a little annoyance.
2. As for the corner tie outs I think two things are involved there. First the tent was designed with thru-hiking in mind so snow stake compatibility likely wasn't on the radar. Next since the fly doesn't sag or stretch nearly as much as nylon you don't need as much adjustability to dial in the pitch as it sags more like you do with SilNylon.
Agreed that it is a nit picky thing for sure. Definitely not a deal break for me!
Thanks for the review!
(2 days, 2 packs, that's the way to go 😉)
Was wondering if someone would notice! ;)
My Tarptent Notch takes only 4 pegs but it’s a one person tent. This Durston looks quite useful!
This is on my short list for a new tent. Excited to see what the DCF version will have to offer.
I'm curious too!
Nice review. May I ask what make and model or backpack that is? Is it waterproof?
Thanks enjoy your reviews. Have done a lot of tent research and just pre ordered the new X-mid 2 Pro. Can’t wait to get it in May or June hopefully.
Great video Justin. My current go to tent is a Mountain Laurel Designs Duomid. I was just turned on to the Xmid by a commenter and then saw your video. I may have to give the Xmid a shot.
I liked it so much on this trip I ended up finding one to buy!
I got one! Can't wait to introduce it to the Canadian Rockies!
How do people pack up the tent in the morning. I just got an X Mid 2 curious what’s best way to pack up, fold and roll, stuff?
I managed to snag the 1P & 2P this year. The 2P purchased direct was not a good deal. Nice tent still.
I live close by Edmonton, I'm right now between Hinton, Edson, Drayton Valley close to the Rocky Mountains. Because I do work there. Absolutely no snow here. But close by Calgary there seems to be snow...
how can i adjust the not suitable stake out lines for snow pegs as you said? That concerns me a bit and i hesitate to buy the tent.
Which solution that you have hopefully found can you share with us?
Heck yea I had it in a 9 inch snow storm on bird mountain in Frozen Head State Park ( Tennessee ) this winter; not a hitch!!!! Had to cover my stakes with rocks and keep one vent closed to keep the snow from blowing in. It’s fairly light weight and compacts great!!!! I used all the tie outs especially the ones at the top of the poles, to keep it sturdy during the storm.
You know I originally wanted to go to sleep but now I have found your channel and am just watching all of the vidoes because they're all so well made. Big respect for the quality and for also keeping the budget in mind at all times.
Thanks Henrik! I really appreciate that!
I can say with certainty for that for X-mid its nice to have the 1p option but 2p seems to make more sense , more space for a few extra grams seems worth it.
My favorite tent is still the Alps Mountaineering lynx 1. Been through the ringer and survived the year
Nice video Justin ! Question on the size, how is the length of the inner tent vs the Lanshan Pro? Not the spec but the real space available without touching the mesh. Important question for the tall guys. 😉
The ends of the X-mid are more vertical due to the pole structure and make the functional space at the ends significantly more. There is probably also at least a few additional inches of actual space in the x-mid as well.
@@JustinOutdoors Thank you 👍
I love my x mid 1. It’s perfect for me!!
Do you know when the second generation version of this tent came out? Trying to figure out if an "April 2022" version is V2 or version 1.
I have both 1p and 2p. Love my XMids.
Would you say the 1pxmid fits someone over 6'2?
@@briteshikes5099 well, I am just under 5'10" so I really can say but I will tell you the way that the inner sits as compared to the fly, there is a lot of room in there I have a 82-in long pad and it doesn't hit the screen wall. I know that's not much help.
Can you tell me when/why you would use one over the other? I'm trying to decide between the them (not that I can actually purchase one)
@@PrimeReal so it depends on what your preference is. If you are good with a 25" wide sleeping area, keeping your gear in a vestibule and going solo: 1P. The 1P is honestly the one that I use the most. If you like to have your gear inside your tent with you, you're going with someone else and or you like the room to stretch out then go with the 2P The only issue with the 2P is you do need a large area to pitch it so it's not good for like stealthy camping between trees and whatnot and the 1P is barely enough for that that would be my only negative.
@@weekendadventuresontrail7920 thanks! I do not like my tent to be seen or have a large footprint but honestly the 1p is very very narrow. Decisions decisions (well.... not really cause they are sold out :) )
As an X-Mid 2P owner who hasn't slept in it yet, I can say it is worth the hype.
Very spacious, and well thought out. Love my xmid 2p
As a potential X-Mid 2P owner who hasn't slept in it yet, I can see it appears to be worth the hype.
Considering this as a lightweight option for winter backpacking.
I did order a mongar 2 which I will practice with for a while and see if I can handle winter camping lol.
Glad you finally got and tested it out. I've got 1P and 2P both first batch from drop. Hype is well deserved imho, but those price gougings on eBay ... the capitalism at its best!🥴
On Amazon also sadly. I’ve even been tempted to buy one from Amazon for $400 just because I want one so badly!
So which one do you like more: Lanshan 2 (Original, with inner mesh), Lanshan 2 Pro (1 layer) or X-MID 2P ?
Tough question! Probably an edge to the X-mid since it can fit 2x25in pads.
I purchased the Durston 1P in 2020 and have enjoyed it, but was more curious about your red gore-tex shell. What manufacturing brand is that, as it does not look familiar to me? Looks like the perfect size for you for layering. Finding a jacket that does not "wet" out at some point in time is hard to find, and since you seem to get the opportunity to test relatively new gear to the market................ so curious if that is a new brand/product arriving in the market and how effective it is in moisture control? Thanks.
It's Gore brand
Ok 50” wide, but will a 6’4” person be able to sleep in it with out the quilt touching the walls? Thanks for the review.
Great x-country skiing technique with the camera stick!
haha, thanks!
@@JustinOutdoors Really diggin' your channel!!
This tent looks interesting. How well does it handle winds at 15ms? Must it be placed in a specific direction when it's windy like a tunnel tent?
I haven't had it in crazy wind but you'd want to align the more sloped wall panels into the wind and not the more vertical wall panels.
Can I use any trecking pole or you have to bay specific ones?
Risky business not setting this tent up before heading out! haha
But dang I love this tent! My X-Mid 1P is still my favourite tent!
I'll be getting the 2p this fall!
Thoughts on the Brave pack?
X-Mid FTW. Brave pack, you'll have to stay tuned ;)
Thanks for the review - I was getting interested in this design. You seem to be the only person to mention the head to toe sleeping. That would be a deal breaker for me for the same reason you mentioned. I think the downside is the total footprint is pretty dang big. a bit bigger than the duplex which is my only knock on it. They have the dyneema version coming out when they're back in stock so that will be interesting.
It's not too bad if one of the people is under 5'8, but two people over 6ft would have troubles.
Stellar review! What backpack are you using?
On the way in I was using the Waymark Thru pack with the Brave Huron pack rolled up and strapped on behind the foam pad. I switched the packs up on the way out. I wanted to compare the two side by side on the same trip with the same load!
Got the X-MID 2p tent and love it. Just upgrade the tent stakes, they are not durable. Let me know if you have a suggestion on tent stakes that are lightweight and durable.
I've been using a mix of titanium shepherd hook stakes, V stakes, and aluminum Y stakes. I'll probably stick with Y stakes with the x-mid.
Great video! Proud owner of a X-Mid 2P here. Noticed you put the poles tips facing the ground, is it better than tips up?
I did that because I didn't want the handles in the snow. I usually do tips down with my trekking pole tents and like that you get the tip locked into the ground on softer ground.
@@JustinOutdoors Thanks for the answer, I also use tips down on a Lanshan 2 (i prefer this method apart that they only fit that way), good to know the X-Mid also supports handles up!
have my X Mid 1p, thing is a beast. Great video
Hi Justin, great video? How tall are you? And how tall do you think someone can be while still feeling (1) comfortable and (2) the maximum height allowed? Thank you!
I'm 5'10. I think someone 6'4 would be a-okay in this tent!
Should I wait for the pro version in dcf?
I can’t speak for the 2 person tent, but can for the X-Mid 1person, version 2. Not “perfect”, but the best tent that I have had in over 65 years of camping. Besides, perfection is a slippery item. Perfect varies with the person, over time with the same person, weather, etc, etc.
Fortunately for us campers, there are some very nice tents available. Also a lot of “OK” tents, and a few real clunkers. Durston gear that I have used, and seen is top tier. And IMPROVING all the time.

Are you able to put your backpack and other gear in the 1p?
@@rebeccarichards7034 G’day, Rebecca. Yes, plus more. I’m 86 and no longer backpack. I camp on my motorcycle, and with my canoe. The motorcycle carries 1.5-2 times more than a backpacker. The canoe carries about 3 times more than a backpacker. It all fits into the two vestibules. One backpack uses about 30% of the space.
If you have additional questions, ask them.

Great video Justin.
Check out our X-Mid review as well! Great job Justin!
Thanks Justin. I’m curious about your new pack? It’s not the REI Flash. Not listed in the description.
I have a couple of new packs I am testing out in this video! The Waymark Thru and Brave Huron! Should I add a "Test Bench" gear list to my videos? Keep you guys updated on what I am testing out in each video, even if I'm not quite ready to give my thoughts on it? I was also testing out the Exped Downmat Winter HL and a new Goretex fabric on this trip!
@@JustinOutdoors yes a test bench list is a great idea
Did you set the tent up on the road?
Just off the road but it is fully closed down to vehicles until mid-May. There are big gates and concrete barriers at either end preventing entry. Great for XC skiing or an easy walk though!
Tried getting the 1p version. Sadly out of stock. Scalpers have them for 400 now. Hopefully I'll get one when they restock.
I’ve been tempted to pick up a $400 one from Amazon because I want one so badly. Sucks! But there’s a new version coming out soon that I signed up for, so we’ll see!
