- Former Labor MP Michael Danby says “nothing will happen” to Senator Fatima Payman after crossing the floor to recognise Palestine.
Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has confirmed Senator Fatima Payman will remain in the Labor Party despite her breaching protocol when she crossed the floor to support a Greens’ proposal to recognise Palestine.
“I can't understand Senator Payman - her family fled the terrible regime in Afghanistan,” Mr Danby told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“Here she is in Australia, dying on a hill to support the brutes in Hamas who have control of Gaza and who committed all of those brutalities on October 7.”
