This technology is in common use for years on skid steer wheel loaders and agricultural vehicles where comfortable suspension compliance is hardly important.
I can't wait for my grandchildren to see a story about this and they'll think it's a new idea. And it's just a few years away! I have seen them on Bobcats, and I think last year there was a demo of them on a Chevy Bolt. Still not expecting them in my lifetime though. But they people working on this have a life long project to work on.
I drove on a set of airless tires in 1975 fitted to a 1975 Pontiac Grand Prix. They were Uniroyal brand and death-traps above 55 MPH as they had a death-weave you couldn't control. The excuse was the National Speed Limit was 55 MPH and ALWAYS would be according to Carter, so the tires were "safe". I drove on a set of Bridgestone airless tires in 2000 that were death-traps on a rental Buick. I wouldn't take the car. I returned it for a Camry at nearly double the cost. "No-flat tires-the technology of the future that always will be."
Will the wheel keep its shape if you parked the vechicle for a long time? The weight of the vechicle, the heat of the sun, the sun's UV light, snows could deformed it?
the open airways transverseing the tire should be closed in as an integral part of the tire. filled with a high density foam. balanced normaly and hit the road.
@gg gg a fun problem indeed, i was more thinking about if the rubber would be prone to cracking when its gets cold enough or something though considering low temperatures make lots of things brittle
post partial addressed it.... such as it higher initial cost.... but reduce maintenance cost... which is what commercial buyers (ie semi trucks,) are willing to pay more for... fyi, its just common sense, so good luck, actually watching and listening to the post...
Loss of profit aside, there are a few more reasons that they might not become popular. 1. Still not as much damping as a pneumatic tire. 2. Potentially much heavier, and still a lot more rolling resistance. 3. Probably not as good with traction. 4. Can't really handle super high speeds and torque like you'd probably want for, say, a sports car or race car. 5. Does not exactly seem optimized for aerodynamics.
Just so you all know.. Airless tires invented before 10 years ago and there is even videos about them.. just google "TWEEL by MICHELIN " 2 553 080 views, Uploaded in 15.9.2009
I invented them in the late 90's when i was a kid, but when i told my dad he thought it was stupid, he just went like "cut this bullshit", like "pff, kids..." lol, i got so butthurt when years later i saw a pic of airless tires on a military vehicle and realized it was going to be a thing in the future and here we are... sadface
I can understand the utility for trucks with 18 tires but on cars with only 4 tires checking the air is easier...but with the price of air at the service station maybe it's not a bad idea.
Won’t ever happen. What would be the point they would last too long. Punctures , blow outs keep the tire companies in business. It is something like silicone windshield wipers . They last forever reason they hard to find .
Have you ever seen that "Outback Truckers" show, when they get bogged down on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere they will reduce the air pressure within the tire to increase traction, in order to get out of the hole? I guess that option is out now...... or maybe they just will not buy these?
Been hearing about EVs for decades. Nada. Vehicle vaporware Time to put up or shut up... Ooops this was from a mindset, from a decade(s) ago... NVM, trolls...
Airless tires. Could be. Would be. Love how now a days, we get all computer graphics of things not invented yet. It's just name brand advertisement. Hey look at me.😎
Spike strips are actually kind of dangerous. In a few years most cars on the road will be able to be remotely controlled. Just needs some laws to catch up with technology. I can already report my car stolen, interface with OnStar and the police, and the car can be shutdown.
Bridgestone is incapable of manufacturing a simple tire, like TX8A-EC1, with threads that can last more than 14000 miles. I think my Bridgestone tires can be classified as airless.
They said that super singles were the answer some years back, not even close. More down side than plus, their pretty much out today. The aires won't go, too many issues against them to be a success. The only place I've seen them so far is on lawn mowers, not on anything heavy duty or high speed.
Maybe for commercial applications someday⏳' Cept currently for Civi's like us, 'Stop Strips dont work' _ Therefore and Understandably' law enforcement dont like that- So until 'Push button engine stoppers' are mainstream!?!- then wu'll see these types of tires on the road ' imo🇺🇸👍
There needs to be 2 problems solved. They are extremely heavy and they will impact fuel economy. And they are extremely expensive most the time needing to replace the whole wheel/rim and tire. Since there is no way to remove the tire without cutting
I like the idea but its a simple idea thats extremely complex to bring to reality. You need to compete on price, be better or as good with noise, wear, and LOOKS. Yea they need to look good. PPl are vane and wont buy a product that is great w/ everything but looks like ass. And yea we have been hearing this coming down the pipe as long as SSTs and Fusion power... Hrm...
commercial buyer focus, more on its total cost over its lifetime... than just its higher initial cost... FYI "we have been hearing this coming down the pipe" was said about the mobile phone was invented in the 1940s and EVs that are over 100s old... are just 2 examples... of late bloomers...
Rubbish things can stick in it, what would be good make these airless tires padded like sneaker shoes bottom no holes what so ever much less to worry about things getting stuck in them and make them in such a way that they can still use rims
I hate retreads and wish they were illegal. I almost died from hitting an unavoidable truck tire tread on the freeway. They are everywhere polluting the environment.
Most bogus tire on In India as I had bad experience, the hind tire which hardly ran for 2300 kilometres, all of sudden on the run on highway got torn at 4 location on its walls , the tread is vry much intact. I now will never go for it & vouch others for doing so. This com on India doesn't respond . Chaware. M.L.
These tires have been "just around the corner" for the last fifty years.
Those things will be laying all over the highways everywhere.
They have to figure a way to make them wear out fast before they mass produce them..$$$$$$$$$
Just like wind and solar. It will creep in with 0 economic advantage. Bet.
Every few years we hear these tires are just a few more years away
And thats how non-tesla works.
We have been hearing about airless tires for years. They must be too good for the consumer as nobody wants to produce them.
@@Miracle.Beam. then make it expensive
Until they make it feasible to recycle tires, it's really not good news. Tire disposal is a gross problem.

Those are not the same thing 😂. You're talking about the crappy compact spare tire
Great information on an impressive new technology. Thank you Sean
This is the exact same information you covered last time
@@nc3826 lol!

Wow excellent characteristic that mud or snow will not stick
John Deere is already using this technology on their tractors.
Me: what happened to my tire?
Mechanic: looks like you had a blown in
How would these handle freezing temperatures?
@gg gg a fun problem indeed, i was more thinking about if the rubber would be prone to cracking when its gets cold enough or something though considering low temperatures make lots of things brittle
so whats the hold up on these for passenger cars? would they come after the trucks and economies of scale?

I could only imagine the noise these things would make too. I know a set of NITTOs or KO2s with the mud chunks out make a racket going down the road.
Hope this will come for bikes too.

Easily built for all vehicles, tire companies and those who tax them would lose money.
And oil companies too......
It’s such a low tech issue, is obvious it’s just a profit matter.

Autoline thx for the informative expanded report...
its a shame most of the comments are just, snarky mindless trolling retorts....
Come up with both pneumatic + spoked version combo in one...whatever the cost maybe
stress relaxation kills this idea dead every time ... D shaped tires don't roll well.
I have a hard time believing that there wouldn't be imbalances when bits of snow are stuck in the tires.
Yeah, you would figure they would have some kind of a thin membrane at least to keep stuff out of the fins
When you see them on airplanes I will recognize them as a legitimate item.

Teknologi yang 👍👍👍
Airless tires do not blown up on the highway create accident, also no need spare tire in the trunk of the car .
How would the police stop speeding vehicles.?
Spike strips are actually kind of dangerous. In a few years most cars on the road will be able to be remotely controlled. Just needs some laws to catch up with technology. I can already report my car stolen, interface with OnStar and the police, and the car can be shutdown.
One wide tire instead of dually twins on pickups . Savings in tolls too
A maxi tire?
these needs further more research if it'll conform to hi speed and heavy load capacities..
Autoline still wont pay for dental insurance?

Looks like a great place for insects to nest if the car sits for any period of time. That might even make them lopsided.
That's okay. They will become part of the cushioning once you get rolling
material such as dry mud falls out in a freeway could break the windshield of a vehicle behind.
The end of spike traps is near
You did not talk about mpg
this will have alignment problem when run into snow or mud.

Oh Hi, it's Graphene's cousin airless tire
Muito bom mesmo

And this thing supposedly doesnt last as much as pneumatic? Im not the first to say it but this si something tesla should disrupt for their semi.
👍
The whole tire business is a sham that's why there have been no forward thinking in this segment.
Tire pen wants you to buy tires and tires period.

I need
Bridgestone is owned by Firestone. Due to their safety record I will never own any of their tires nor will I buy a vehicle with those tires.
like a golf ball
lets see for regular cars and that lasts 10 times as long as nuematic tires
Technology won't be released because no money in it for tyre producers, need someone like Musk to invent and manufacture it.

let's create new country and do things like this, also obviously free energy and stuff like that, lol, bad people obviously will destroy our country.
Does your dad know that you smoke pot?
Soon as like...never.
İf they sell airless tire they will warn less money. Consumer dont need to buy New tire for long time

exist on bicycle and electric scooter but very suck, slips a lot, very poor road behavior
dOESN'T LOOK GOOD
Needs to be commercalized and stop just talking about it at trade shows!
it's like watching strippers, all show but no go,
make it happen already:) eh
Don't you mean tyres. Please learn to spell correctly.
Amish already did it...
