I've been doing these exercises for a week now and I'm ALREADY seeing results! Thank you so much Katie. Your videos are unbelievably helpful. I'm so grateful you're sharing all your knowledge with us here on youtube
You are such a life saver! I don't know what I would have done, if you and your tutorials weren't available. You have helped me with so many of my doubts and fears. Thanks to you, I've been able to mold myself into a confident ballet dancer. Better than I ever thought I could be. Yours with many wishes for health and happiness. Happy New Year.
Thank you so much. I feel like I've improved more by doing this execise than I have in the two years I have been practising pointe shoes. Love you so much Kathryn :-*
Thank you so much, your exercises are the only ones that really help. A lot of other "dance workout" videos focus to much on one muscle or have unnecessary exercises in them or require a lot of flexibility, that beginners do not have. Yours really focus on the one thing I want to improve.
Thanks for sharing this knowledge. Ballerinas all always in competition, when it suppose we should help each other to improve. Thanks a lot and luck!!!
Thank you so much for this. I'm trying to get back up on pointe but I am struggling with an ankle injury and this will help my strengthening process immensely. So again thank you so much :)
Thank you for making this! I have horrible flat feet and ankles that turn in, I am also in gymnastics and My feet hurt so bad after! I had no idea that you had to do it slowly and like this with the theraband!
Thanks so much! I've been doing dance for 7 years now and am hoping to get my pointe shoes. My teacher recommended your videos to help prepare my feet. I really like your channel and find your videos very helpful. 😊👍🏻
I teach beginning pointe and was needing some inspiration for this week- this video was perfect! I love that I know the content and technique in each video is reliable and correct. Thank you!
You're the best Kathryn! Love your videos. Your knowledge is so helpful. I am learning more and more everyday about my feet and how to use them. Thank-you.
Hi Kathryn! This is an amazing video as always! I was wondering if you could make a video for helping with an injury? I have just resonantly injured my groin and am not able to lift my leg to the side at all without it pinching. If you could make a video for that, it would be wonderful!
Thanks! I'm doing these exercises without a theraband for now - just because I tore my old one, and I'm getting a super workout already. Shows how great these exercises are, and how lousy my foot strength is :))
Hi Miss Kathryn. I just now read about your illness. I'm pretty slow on the uptake sometimes, and I had no idea you were no longer at NYCB. I'm very happy to hear that you're on the mend. You have such a great career ahead of you at such a young age. We are all benefitting from your wonderful videos. No way you'd have time to do this if you were still at NYCB!
So excited for this, thank you so much! I injured myself two days after a summer performance (thankfully) and I've had to wait for stitches to come out and some healing to happen before I can get back to class. I'm so grateful to have this and your barre videos waiting for me so I can get some extra practice time in once I'm healed!
Great video!! I appreciate you showing arch exercises and how to use the balance disk. My trainer has me use it constantly and it has really reduced my foot and knee pain. You are a great teacher - thanks for sharing!!
This video is amazing thank you so much!!! My feet were hopeless before I found this and now I think they are stronger. I'll try to keep up the recs everyday!
Love the think alouds! I danced a LONG time ago but I always kept my feet flexibility and strength using many of these same exercises. Lately, my ankles have felt so weak and I've been having them twist on me more frequently. I started using the Theraband like you suggested. I'm hoping they will be back to normal soon! Point is - it's never too late to do what you love in some way or another!
i think your new hair really suits you :) and thanks for the exercises! my right leg is somewhat stronger than my left so hopefully i can do more exercises on my left so that they can even out.
Went back to this old video, still great and really nice to do at home! I used the purple balance disk for all the exercises instead of switching to a board and it seemed to work well :-)
Correction at 2:20 "Right at the base of your heel... where you're Achilles is....." I believe she meant to say "plantar fascia," not "Achilles." as she has the ball right at the attachment of the plantar fascia on the heel bone. The Achilles tendon comes down the back of the leg and attaches to the top of the back of the heel, not under the foot.
My theraband broke, waaaahh. So I improvised by using pain of tights stuck my toes and front of foot through holes of both feet of tights. Works great and I love these exercises. I have problems with left foot due to a bone spur in tarsal bone. Foot feels much more flexible.
When it comes to giving anatomy lessons, I feel that dancers should know their anatomy. There is a lot of inaccuracy which has been handed down teacher to teacher as dogma - it's time we all read anatomy books to make sure what we are saying is correct. Checking up on what we think we know in a book such as Gray's Anatomy is a great eye opener. Love!
Coconut oil is GREAT for the hair..I eat a teaspoon, but I also put it in my hair and a little on my scapl works great..grows faster and thicker and stays healthy! Great video!
Thank you so much for all this wonderful information. I'm so excited that you're going to make a video on hyper extended knees. I have them too and I tend to over correct and bend them a little. But, to me my bent let's felt straight. I've gotten better at it but I still tend to be a bit bent in fifth and especially in releve. Any advice you have on that would be amazing!!
Thank you again for doing all these videos! I look forward to trying this workout out! I do have a kind of random question though. I grew up dancing at a small studio where I was taught to never bend my knee in fifth position ever. I've seen videos though of amazing dancers from New York City Ballet and Joffrey I think that bend their knees a bit when closing into fifth position. Do you know if there is a reason for this? Thanks again so much for all your help!
Hi, Kathryn! Love your videos. I started en pointe a year ago and I am using many of your videos to get ready for my first summer intensive. Keep them coming, please!
Could you please comment, or do a video talking about "softening the knee" in 5th position, or perhaps the mechanics/technique of turnout in general? :) Tips are greatly appreciated but sometimes explanations of process/methodology is even more eye opening. :)
Amazing guide, I love the recommendations and I enjoyed watching the video :) You mentioned ballet shoes are essential. Why? I don't do ballet, but I want my feet to have a better shape for the handstands.
thank you you're keeping me busy for the summer...trying different things to see how strong I can be for September.... the tendus half tendus... going through the floor ...meta tarsals right??
I love this! I am coming back from a 9 month injury of no dancing and I have recently started pointe again. I'm getting nervous because I have two auditions for summer intensives in less than three weeks and my ankles are so weak! I just finished doing this workout and I loved it! I will definitely be doing this often to strengthen my ankles for pointe. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! By the way, in replacement of the balancing board and disc, I am using a half-bosu ball. Is this a good substitute?
FOr someone who's doing beginner pointe should I do the the pointe work in ballet flats first to build strength or should I try to go straight onto pointe?
Hi Kathryn! First of all thank you so much for all the work you're doing here. It's really great that you are sharing your knowledge and skills with us :D Conc. this particular video I would have a question. What would you rather recommend to buy balancing disc or balancing board? What are the differences between those two? Thanks so much for an answer ;)
Hey Katie, I "did" it in my home, but I've got some doubts, specially about the balance parts: first, do you think it's a good idea to do the balance disk part on my bed? And about the supporting leg, is it supposed to be completely straighten in these exercises? Because when I do the balance board part on the floor, it is really hard to flex my supporting foot with it completely straighten. This would be a good video request, some exercises to help us keep our legs straighten
Hello Ms Morgan, I've been enjoying your videos. I find them because I needed to start strengthening my ankles for pointe. I would like to be able to do the exercises on the balance board, but the one you linked on the description is unavailable on Amazon. Do you have another one that you'd like to recommend?
Hi Kathryn, I don't have a Thera-band at the moment (I'm hoping to get one soon) so I've been doing the thera-band exercises without one. Will this still help strengthen my ankles/feet or will it not really do anything unless I get one? Thank you x
katarine assisto o seu vídeo todos os dias não tenho andeor e nem colo de pé estou fazendo os seu exercício para ajudar na ponta como conseguir andeor e colo de pé
I know I'm really late but I'm just starting pointe, well actually I'm taking a pre pointe class and was wondering if I could do these exercises with pre pointe shoes?
Hey Kathryn, I have done ballet for about 9 years but i just recently have developed a problem. Every time i point my foot harder it hurts my ankle. Right at that crease that forms. And it is just on my right foot, the left one is ok.Have i overstreched it or sth? I cant dance more than 2-3 hours a day now ( on really bad days i can hardly go on releve more than 15 times a row cuz i simply collapse ) and i am training for my summer intensives so i need to practice more. Pls someone tell me if they have had this problem, it has not been going on for too long but i am worried i have injured it badly.
I had the same thing. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. My doctor said it wasn't broken or overstretched but he recommended me sitting out of class for 1-2 weeks, which might seem like a lot, and it was , it was Nutcracker season so I missed a lot of rehearsals. Anyway, it was totally worth it, I don't really get that anymore. If I do, I stay off of releve/jumps or sit out.
Hi Katy i've just started teaching myself ballet from basics I'm gonna try and go to classes but I don't have time. My aim is to go on pointe as I've always wanted to be a ballerina.. Is there any tips... I'm working on my flexibility and strength. I'm working on my slits at the moment. Which are coming on nicely. I'm doing on stage at a time xD
Hi, sorry I'm not Katy but can I just say thank you for taking it one stage at a time. You hear some people starting ballet and they start with the super hard arabesques and fouttes luckily there are people like you that think logically there for not resulting in injury. My aim was to go on pointe and I acheived it in less than 2 years xx I'd start off with simple tondues and releves and eleves, these will imediatley start helping strengthen your feet for pointe but also teach you the basics, you can just search videos on youtube to find them. Then progress into more floor work and so on xx Good luck
Hej Kathryn I really have a big problem with doing exercise on one leg. I try to make it better, I don't feel like I have weak feet or legs in general, I have very strong and good balance, without pointes I can do it forever, but on pointe I just wobble like crazy and I fell down so fast or don't raise up at all. I cannot do it on the straight leg almost at all, with plie it's hard for me too. why is this happening - what I should get stronger to finally make it??
Can someone who danced from 5-18 years old, and then took a long break to focus on teaching dance, and then came back now to my own training (at age 22) make it professionally as a ballet or contemporary dancer?
Is it okay to do this with normal shoes if you aren't on pointe? (I found my old shoes (yes they have hardly grown in 8 years!) and I found that they were way too wide for me and they aren't supporting me at all!)
Julia Catherine Oh I hadn't watched the parts with pointe shoes! Sorry I meant the parts with the theraband, I'd just use soft shoes and go to demi pointe, don't worry!
#1:Your hair looks great. I talked to my friend Amanda a week ago. She took a vitamin called Biotin[ www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/lifestyle-guide-11/supplement-guide-biotin ] for her thyroid her hair loss. She said she noticed a difference in 3 months. It does not appear that you need it anymore though. #2: I hope that you teach full time when your stage career is over and are a CUTE old lady. You are very talented.
Thank you! Yes- I have been taking any and ALL hair vitamins I could. Really worked! And I love teaching, so I think when I am done dancing, I will definitely do that! :)
my studio is putting me en pointe and the recommended this, little do they know I’ve been following your for about 2 years now :)
I've been doing these exercises for a week now and I'm ALREADY seeing results! Thank you so much Katie. Your videos are unbelievably helpful. I'm so grateful you're sharing all your knowledge with us here on youtube
+Shamira Sirr Hoping to see the same results here. I want to get into doing these every day. One legged releves are tricky for me. :(
I just started pointe, so this is incredibly helpful for me!
You are such a life saver! I don't know what I would have done, if you and your tutorials weren't available. You have helped me with so many of my doubts and fears. I loved the exercises, but it would be great to do them guided like in class.
love your choice of music - phantom of the opera :)
Also love your videos, thank you so much
Thank you so much. I feel like I've improved more by doing this execise than I have in the two years I have been practising pointe shoes. Love you so much Kathryn :-*
Thank you Miss Kathryn for so freely sharing your abundant knowledge about ballet. You are very generous. ❤️👍🏽🎀

Could you do a video with all the exercise you should do before class?
just make a playlist, she has tons of videos of everything you need to do before/ during / after class lol
Magpie Kent Thank you
Thank you so much for this. I'm trying to get back up on pointe but I am struggling with an ankle injury and this will help my strengthening process immensely. So again thank you so much :)
Love these exercises! Thank you so much for making them! This is my second year in ballet so I am trying to strengthen my feet and ankles.

I'm so grateful for your videos. They are very helpful! Will these feet strengthening exercises help improve my instep and arches as well?
Great video. I use balls like that on my feet when I come home from work. The music was so special in this video, I love piano.

I just got my pointe shoes two days ago!
How often should these be done?
I do it once a week but I would reccomend more like three times, I just don't have time.
Thank you so much for your videos! Would you do one with some sort of stretch and range of motion increase tips? TY!
Yes! Absolutely!
Thanks!! :)
thank you for everything you do!!!!!!!!

Conc. this particular video I would have a question. What would you rather recommend to buy balancing disc or balancing board? What are the differences between those two?
Thanks so much for an answer ;)
Agata Szymańska Thank you so much! I would buy the balance board- you have a lot more options with it. The discs are more limiting.
Excelente!! Gracias!!
Could you do workout for strong feet, please?
Zawesome. Thank you so much😊
Hi Kathryn! I've been dancing en pointe for a little while now, but I'm having trouble with my balance. Do you have any tips or advice for me? 😊

I am having trouble with my flexed foot can you give me some tips?
what type of ball are you using to stretch your feet?
would you recommend to get a foot stretcher or do you think are a bit unnecessary?
She's mentioned in her warmup video that she does not support those foot stretchers.
Hey Kathryn, I have done ballet for about 9 years but i just recently have developed a problem. Every time i point my foot harder it hurts my ankle. Right at that crease that forms. And it is just on my right foot, the left one is ok.Have i overstreched it or sth?
I find using a pillow in the balance exercises is great.
Claire Longlands thanks for the tip! Didn't think of it, but it helps!
I mean ofc this exercise when the second leg is always up.
How often should you do these exercises?
Music 123 She said it in the video.
is the ball bouncy and soft, or is it hard?
Crystallian101 It's fairly hard.
ok, thx :)
How many times a week do you recommend this workout?
Hazel Gina She said it in the video.

NO!! you can seriously injure yourself.
Julia Catherine Oh I hadn't watched the parts with pointe shoes! Sorry I meant the parts with the theraband, I'd just use soft shoes and go to demi pointe, don't worry!
then that's fine ;)
I just do it in socks, that way you can really see what your feet are doing.
I would do it barefoot.
