I think this is the one time where Nintendo was justified in taking a troll level down
True but while it was up a quite a fun level to play (I would know I played a version of it)
100% Not just because it was trash but if it did manage to brick someone's console (as seems to be implied by the title) that might result in a few lawsuits and Nintendo being forced to replace people's machines.
Hell, I'd even go so far as to sue Carl Sagan, and on that note, I honestly can't believe he'd do something like this. I guess things went downhill after he made Cosmos. Neil DeGrasse Tyson really stole his thunder.

When Carl puts wind in a level and somehow that's one of the LESS evil things about it...
Wind is good here. It means you’re in the main world. You never, ever want to be in the subworld.
I love it how the endless Gorp stunlock is considered charming in this evil level.
One of the most interesting things about watching people play this is seeing what's on their home screens every time they hardlock

This level, with all its evil and rage inducing nonsense, is actually really good level design too. Carl outdid himself.

but actually: my absolute favorite troll of the level (23:04), carl made it on his own.
i mean.. the p-switch wiggle alone is so cinematic and funny. then when it falls, you're like "wh..?" and you slightly realizing that you needed the p-switch and now its gone because you were sitting there like a goose watching the weird thing happening infront of you. and then how it just comes flying back at you. all this comedic timing:
the boys juggling the p, the waiting, the fall, the flight home, the realization.
it's like the 5 acts of a drama
@@KaptnJolly how do you make it so you can go through blocks like the ice block in this vid. I've seen lots of levels where you have to go through blocks and used to know how to set it up to do that but I forgot.

Can't wait for Carl's reaction video...
Haven't been up to date with the SMM2 community as of late as Mario Odyssey has been a priority for a long time, but glad to see that Carl hasn't stopped creating masterpieces

I haven't seen one of these in a few months, but I'm glad this was the one to come up. The sliding cannons, that last p-switch, particularly the wigglers gliding down as the most goofy cloud of death is perfect. Thanks Carl, Dave, Chris, and perhaps the aglotithim - really needed the smiles today :)
So this is the first time I'm seeing one of these levels before Carl uploads his video on it and this may be the most monstrous level Carl has ever done, and I'm barely 5 minutes in

As geek said that : troll level maker (now) lack of guts, how they become more gentle and very few of them will send the player back to CP1 (CP0), and she announced and encourage all troll makers in 2023 to have more Guts as this year is the "Year of guts"
and here Carl have an idea how to hardlock player so they have no choice to reset their game and back to CP0.
so yeah... blame Geek. Hahaha

10:35 Dave not realizing there are three different ways to approach that spring, on which sucks u into pipe, one which launches to yoshi as Geek was able to cheesn’t but failed anyway, and the other that actually sends you right in the saw gap. Seeing as you keep doing the geek cheesn’t way, you’re gonna have a good time til u figure it out, if u ever do.
The biggest troll very nearly happened at the very end of the video, but somehow Dave managed to avoid it! XD

would keep certain levels from destroying people's fun due to being TAS or a complex troll level. Maybe in mario maker 3?

The point is making it to where you can't get it in a run, not banning because you don't like it.
Its not hurting anybody if the only way for you to play the level is by willingly opting to play it. Hence my point.
of all the parts of this level I've never seen before, getting yeeted off a vine by a launched P-switch is definitely the best one :D
It's levels like this that you really have to respect DGR's commitment to not swearing.

Holy smokes... That has to be one of the most evil mm2 levels I have ever seen. That was so hilarious yet painful to watch
When the video starts with "I ATE THE BONES!" I know it will be good.
In case anyone is curious, here's a technical destinction between a soft lock and a hard lock:
Soft lock: When the game is technically still running, but it is impossible for the player to progress. Also includes things like infinite loading or other kinds of endless loops or states where the game or a portion of it continues to run, but the player has no way of interacting with it. In extreme cases the player may not even be able to open menus or interact with anything at all and the only way to fix it is to force close the game/program via the system.
Hard lock: When the game locks up entirely. A lot of times the system detects a hard lock and closes the game automatically. This is referred to as a crash, but that doesn't always happen. Some times a hard lock can be so severe the entire system locks up and cannot be interacted with at all. The only way to get out of that will be to power down the system entirely and restart it.
I'd classify anything that prevents you from waiting out a timer to preserve your current checkpoint as a hardlock, but that's just my opinion.
"Hard Lock?!" It's called a *Crash.* Get it right, for crying out loud!
It isn't a crash as you have to manually close the game, a crash does it automatically
@@andrewohagan2962 That's still a crash, just the kind of crash that the game can't fix on its own. There's no such thing as a "Hard-lock," it's just another one of Dave's cult words, like Forced Death or Cannonball Shooter.
I would classify as a hardlock anything that permanently prevents reaching the game menu.
E.g. in this one the music still kept playing, so the game was not entirely dead. However a single thread might have gotten stuck in an endless loop.
Actually maybe it is an endless recursion and after 5 days it may run out of stack space and would crash "properly" - we do not know, nobody is gonna try that ;)

Just came back to watch this a year later and holy cow Dave really clutched the ending out. Got OBSCENELY lucky in the wiggler room the third time around and then managed to get onto the flagpole when by all rights he shouldn’t have. Absolute clutch

The fact that you can actually build a level that prevents you from Starting the Game is NUTS

For context. It will happen only once. After first crash with temp level on title, it will reset for generic level on title screen.
At least this was anticipated by Nintendo

That is a true softlock. Whatever is called softlock in game by majori... everybody isn't the case.

You have the power to pause the game, even more so knowing the kind of level, the level creator and the actual fact that you had played it for almost 30 minutes already.
