    Happy Blu Year Benn..
    Glad you have not only joined tha 4K club of which I reckon I was one of tha founder members lol, its been 3-1/2 years fo me..he says showing off..
    But they are amazing at upscalers as well, I have tha Panny UB900 & CES has just finished so I’ll be getting tha New Panny or Sony..
    Best thing I tell people is always get tha 4K as it has tha BD as well. So its a win win...4K is region free, and I’m sure someone will point that out, If I recommend a 4K TV LG OLED or Tha New Sony OLEDs but tha LCD’s have come a long way so whatever is good for your budget, I did get your email and replied...

      Yeah, taken me a while to change to 4K, but still need a 4K TV in the living room and to pick up some actual 4K movies, only have one so far, lol.
      So 4k is region free? Didn´t know that, thanks for the info, but still if you want to watch DVD and Blu Ray on this machine, being region B locked is important to know. Really good to hear from you buddy, and hope 2019 brings you everything you want! Take care.

    I've just bought this BD player. When I got it at home I had a lot of problems. The BD player didn't work rightly, it was crazy. My Apple TV stopped to work. After a lot of hours, I found out the problem was a new HDMI 3 meters cable I had bought in order to be able to move further the furniture where I have all my set, A/V receiver, an old multimedia player, Apple TV 4K etc... This cable was to connect my A/V receiver by HDMI/ARC to my LG OLED C8 65" TV. So you already know, I've just bought a new cable from Amazon Spain and everything is ok. The old one was a brand called Primewire (Amazon Spain) 3 meters. The new one is a brand called PremiumTech (Amazon Spain too) a cable HDMI 2.1 which holds till 10K and 4K to 120HZ - Ultra High-Speed 48GB/s - Dynamic HDR (3 Meters too.) The old one was 12€, the new one is 74€. As we are used to saying in Spain "the cheap is expensive"
    I'd like Sony updated its firmware in order to get the BD player to detect automatically what kind of video standard you are going to play (Dolby Vision or HDR). This player is set to play HDR. If you are going to play a Dolby Vision movie you have to change manually to Dolby Vision in the settings menú. It is impractical and tricky.

One thing I noticed is that the picture on this blu-ray player looks darker when compared to my ps4 pro when playing standard blu-rays. Ive set the video settings to auto on the blu-ray player and tried tweaking the custom settings to match with the brightness of the ps4 pro. However, Im afraid i would'nt have the most accurate picture or even make the picture worse as Im not a professional in adjusting the contrast/brightness. fyi ive hooked up both of this devices to the same amp (through hdmi hdcp 2.2) that is connected to the tv. The remote is confusing...there is no Power button to speak of...lots of icons though. I never know after viewing a dvd, if the player is on or off. When I click on the open.close icon, it turns on my Smart TV as I insert the dvd. ...but it does not play immediately, I have to choose the Home button and start the dvd from there. When I finish the play, i see the blue button is still on the player. I have to go over to the player press the right side button which I assume is the "power' and the blue turns off. Why can't there be an on/off button the remote?

    • @blu-raybenn4854
      @blu-raybenn4854  3 роки тому

      Hello Anthony, my remote has a power button, and it is extremely clear, a green button on the top right of the remote, and it is of a larger size than the other buttons. With regards to the tv turning on when you insert a DVD, that is because this player has a connection system that turns on all the devices connected to the player, I for example press play on the player, and my tv and soundbar automatically turn on, saving me the time of picking up 3 different remotes to turn everything on. And when I insert a DVD, I dont press close tray, I press play while the tray is still open, it then closes and starts the film without having to do anything else. The player is on when the green light on the front of the player is lit, when the player is off, this green light is also off. I really don´t understand the problems you are having, maybe you have a different player, or remote, or it is faulty.

Thanks for watching, really appreciate it.

    • @LeeLucas
      @LeeLucas 5 років тому +1

      Hi Benn. My blu ray player which is the Sony BDPS4100 does have an on screen display but just like this UBP X700 it's a lot smaller player and I never really bother to look at it, and prefer the display button on the remote because it does give you more information than what the on screen display will give you. I think you will soon get used to the remote like I did with mine. To be honest I personally think the Sony UBP X700 is well overpriced especially regarding it's build quality and should retail at around £130 not it's £200 price tag. I am hoping it comes down a lot more by the time I get to buy it.
      But despite it's cheaper build and being small, there is no doubt in my mind about how good it's functionality is. For example in January 2014 when I brought my Sony BDPS4100 I was amazed how good it performed and it was originally £120 and I got it in a sale for £69 brand new from Amazon. My Blu Ray player before that was the Sony BDP-S550 and cost me £350. It may have been built better and was a bigger machine, but I can assure you it was nowhere near the quality in performance of BDPS4100 which cost me near enough £300 less.
      It was not even missing one single feature that the BDP-S550 had, and in fact had loads more features on it, such as Smart TV. 3D and even SACD. My Sony BDP-S550 only lasted 3 years and was very sluggish. It was in reality a Dinosaur or even a Bag Of Nails in comparison to the functionality of my Sony BDPS4100 which only cost me £69. It is still running today just like it was 5 years ago when I brought it. I have nothing but praise for the player and was quite Gobsmacked how you could get that amount of quality for so little. I only brought it originally because the BDP-S550 broke down and no longer wanted to play discs, and I was stuck for cash at the time and only wanted it to tie me over till I could afford something a bit better.
      But when I had it I was just blown away by how good it was, and never even bothered to buy another Blu Ray player. Now my LG 32 inch HD TV is on the blink, but has served me well for more than 10 years now. So I am now saving for a new TV and being as I am, I thought it would be a good idea to step into the entry level of 4K TV. So I will be needing this UBP X700 to go with it, but I do hope it comes down a bit more over the next few months.

      I ordered mine from Amazon Spain, and actually got it for 180 pounds , I am happy with the player, but I am having problems with Netflix, when I go to watch something, it won´t play and says there is a problem with the content I am trying to view, the only way to get it to work is turning off the player at the wall and restarting it, really annoying! @@LeeLucas

    • @LeeLucas
      @LeeLucas 5 років тому +1

      I have read other reviews that have had similar problems with the player and have had to turn it off and hopefully Sony will make an update to fix that issue. But I think regarding any updates most companies only do them for so long and as soon as they build a newer model they tend to forget about the older models and expect you to buy the latest. Hopefully Sony will sort it out before they move on to the next model.
      I only really want the Blu Ray player for Blu Ray discs more so than the TV side of things and can always use the smart TV for that content. I do have Amazon Prime Video because I am an Amazon Prime member, but I rarely watch films and am more into my music. But I dare say when I get a 4K TV I will get back into buying Blu Ray films again only this time in 4K :)))))). But even most of those are not in 4K anyway and even streaming 4K will not give you what a disc will regarding quality. So as long as the Blu Ray player does not freeze on me that will be fine. I am sorry to hear you are having these issues and I do hope Sony sort it out.

      Are you sure you have connecting all the right cables to all the right places? There should be no problem if both your tv and player are 4K, or maybe it is the disc itself, or the transfer of the 4K version of the film is badly done.

      Some movies aren't true 4k, they're upscaling of 2k into 4k so u have to be careful of marketing. Usually Blu-ray.com gives you the specs of the CD so check them out before buying any expensive 4k movie. If it's a cheap 4k than buy it blindly, for example; I found the new Spiderman 4k for $10. I bought it asap without checking any spec info.

    Got one a couple of months ago. Good or bad point, it is extremely light and compact, ideal for caravan/motorhome or tiny bedroom. Very bad point, I discovered it does NOT play sound on DVD's and at the extraordinary price of 4K discs and lack of available, worthwhile films I won't be purchasing any, ever, apart from the already bought 4K '2001' as I have hundreds of DVD's plus dozens of Bluray's which are fine on my non 4K players.

    about the apps i dont think that you get usa apps.if you do order one from the usa by ebay you get the factory software as usual and you have to update as usual to get aditional apps and at that moment the x700/800 sees from what location you update and put the Euro apps in . youtube an netflix are everywhere the same offcourse By the way about region locked:i used to make sony players region free when it was stil easy with the remote now its not needed anymore anyway just download serviio on you pc (free (and posible with other server software too) and download passkey light(free version) you can add de dvddrive or blu raydrive on pc in the library from serviio (first put disc in pc drive not spinning but so drive is awake so to speak) serviio can then see drive add it to its library and.paskeylight wil give serviio acces or the sony i should say to also see the final file on disc where the movie is in vob or mts ( paskeylight(from dvdfab site its a free separate download but just search for paskeylight and let do its thing when you put disc in pcdrive as it scans the whole disc (serviio can be little slow to update the contents in its library but it will work. then in the x700 or 800 you can pick that final file on disc in pc vob or mts mts is usual largest stream that has the movie (pick yellow serviio logo in sonynetwork and go to the folder on pc dvd drive D or E where it is and you can pick and play that final vob to stream to player offcourse just the pure videofile vob etc no menus etc.that way you can play your region 1dvds collection on the /x800 strangely i dont see that network logo on your x700 general menu that would be a major difference between the x700 and x800 you need for above to work that network app that x800 has its a tv logo i only see on yours usb and miror or they must have put it in x700 all under mirror logo but in the x800 there is a separate tv logo On other x700 utubes i see now the same tv logo as on the x800 so the x700 and x800 are the same with that network thing

    Hiya Benn :) This is pretty uncanny. I actually purchased the Sony UBP X700 4K Player with the All Zone Code Free Multi Region option it seems pretty much at the same time as you were getting your machine. I received mine on the 10th January.
    Great walk / talk through the machine video here Benn. Thanks for sharing :)
    My experience of the player to this point has been overall highly pleasing, but thought I would also share here what I have picked up in using the machine & putting it through its paces as there are a few things that are very much worth bringing to peoples attention I feel.
    I have the player hooked up direct to an LG 55inch OLED 4K 3D TV & a 5.1 Yamaha sound bar.
    My TV as you can see is able to show 3D, in Passive 3D manner, and does so stunningly well. The LG TV also benefits not just from the High Dynamic Range HDR 10 but also the highly detailed & quite stunning Dolby Vision. One of the benefits of this Sony 4K Blu-ray is of course the upgraded inclusion of Dolby Vision, which definitely adds a beautiful & immersive visual quality to viewing material. The Dolby Vision shows up on the players set up right away as you will have discovered & when turned on shows programming & digital disc movies with the Dolby Vision, even on a non 4K TV I believe, but only in enhanced form, rather than true form when using a 4K TV & Dolby Vision enhanced 4K Blu-ray discs, of which there are very few at this present time. This will improve quickly though as Dolby Vision is highly regarded & home view fans are aware of & want, which is great as it definitely shows more dynamic depth & quality than the very good HDR 10.
    Most peole largely without noticing, being aware though, will not immediately notice that if the Dolby Vision is switched on, & left on with this player, & the image being watched is not true Dolby Vision compliant, such as through Netflix programming which does have a pretty good deal of shows and films with Dolby Vision, such as the Marvel shows, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones etc, that there is in fact an audio lip synch issue, which for me is a real problem. Initially I could not work out why suddenly with this new player, hooked up the same way my other 3D Blu-ray player was, delivered lip movements not matching the sound being spoken ! I ran through all the connections etc & then worked out that the Dolby Vision app through this Sony UBP X700 for me needs to be off & only turned on when I am watching compatible Dolby Vision programming through Apps like Netflix & UA-cam or when I actually have a Dolby Vision 4K Blu-ray disc to play on the machine, which at present I do not.
    With my television having Dolby Vision intelligently recognising for itself a Dolby Vision compliant program, it of course will engage itself automatically, which is perfect. The Sony player does not have this luxury in this current form, so for me the Dolby Vision aspect needs to be turned off or all programing pretty much has the lip synch sound issue. I most definitely will pick up Dolby Vision 4K discs in the future, so just switching the players Dolby Vision ON when I play is no issue at all, & as I say all other Netflix / UA-cam shows through the TV switch to Dolby Vision perfectly automatically anyway.
    The Sony UBP X700 as you will now also be aware also allows for the playback of 3D discs. One of the reasons I have finally gone all Multi Region player wise is because of the diversity of world region & 3D discs that I actually have. Not being able to pick up NTSC Region Blu-rays was becoming a real issue as of course there are so many wonderful films & releases not available to us other than from America in particular. No issue on DVD but Blu-ray is. Not any more thankfully as this All Zone Code Free Multi Regional chipped version of the Sony UBP X700 that I now have truly does it all & I managed to secure for just under £300 including a free 4K disc of the Star Wars: Solo film, so not so much more with the all region capability than what you were able to nicely secure for yourself.
    The 3D play back is Fantastic, if not the best I have yet witnessed from a player, which is great news on top of all the other plus points this player delivers.
    3D Blu-rays do not come with Dolby Vision capability, but conversely do allow for IMAX presentation, that oddly it seems 4K discs do not ?! Another thing with having the Dolby Vision turned on with this player however is that it disengages the 3D so again a reason to have the Dolby Vision turned off, until it is actually compatibly useable.
    When you upgrade to a nice new 4K TV Benn you may just want to consider one that has 3D capability to take advantage of the Sony players 3D disc playability. I would recommend an LG 3D 4K TV as they use Passive 3D technolgy, which is much like then having the 3D glasses you use at the cinema. The other 3D TV formats use field sequentail technology 3D which means you have to use 3D glasses that require batteries & they do not last so long at all & become an annoyance. Passive 3D is the best way to go using the LG TVs in my experience & humble opinion.
    So there it is. Hopefully this proves to be helpful & informative to folk considering purchasing the very smart & cost effective Sony UBP X700 4K 3D Blu-ray Player as it is indeed a great choice, but please do be aware of the niggles regarding the Dolby Vision with lip synch & 3D play back of discs.
    I do agree with your view regarding the remote control as well Benn. It is too small, but I guess part of keeping the price highly competitive & likely shaving about £15-£20 off the cost of the machine was in making this so small, but still useable, along with not supplying an HDMI cable.I am really liking the player though, having worked my way around the niggles & seemingly now having it work for me in a way I am fully apprised of. Oh, the lack of a darned timer / visual front clock is indeed frustrating as I too like to see where I am with a film.
    Anything else you may like to ask about the machine or a new 4K TV please do feel free to ask away Benn. Have a great new week ahead :)

      Morning Paul, I just took the morning off work so I can read your comment, lol.
      That is a coincidence, great minds think alike. Thanks for putting the info on the Dolby Vision, I am sure it will help many people out, especially the problem with the lip-synch. I have heard that we are still unable to get the true potential of Dolby Vision as home cinema is still behind in the technology and hopefully in the future we will be able to have true dolby vision in future devices.
      I did realise that it also plays 3D movies, but in truth I dislike the 3D format, and I know I will never use it, good to know, though. And of course, having a region free player opens up a whole new world for us Europeans in physical media, even if it is just with blu ray, as 4K doesn´t have that problem. Having said that, my player set me back 186 euros, about 165 pounds, so for the region option it does cost a whopping 135 quid more, which for some people would be a decision breaker, even with Solo on 4K.
      Thanks for watching and for leaving this mammoth comment! Take care

      Hi Benn :) Hope your morning off was worth it ;) The price deal you got on this machine is Excellent & overall the Sony UBP X700 is a serious consideration for anyone considering getting a 4K player. I am really pleased & enjoying the freedom of the Multic Region that one I went for delivers.
      The Dolby Vision niggle I think can be addressed by Sony with a future update. If they can give the Dolby Vision its own sensor capability, which my LG 4K TV has, in that when a Dolby Vision enhanced / capable program is playing the sensor recognises & turns the Dolby Vision on for you. Which is why at present for me I will have it turned off & I act as the human sensor & turn the option on to watch the Dolby Vision programming ;) It really is superb though & most definitely noticeable over regular HDR 10.
      I just purchased a 4K Dolby Vision Blu-ray movie to get the full disc experience, Jumanji Welcome To The Jungle to watch & enjoy. There will now be a great deal more 4K Dolby Vision Blu-rays coming out. I am really looking forward to seeing / getting, Overlord.
      I don't know if it helps at all regarding the 3D with you, but the Passive 3D format on home format TV is pretty much pin perfect, no ugly drop outs or ghosting, eye strain issues, just the very best way to experience & enjoy. I really do enjoy sitting down with a 3D film at least once a month & my collection of 3D films is pretty vast now ! I really like the old school 3D films such as, Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954), House Of Wax (1953), The Bubble (1966) & the Eighties 3D revival with Big Fun silly flicks like, Parasite (1982), Metalstorm (1983), Spacehunter (1983) Comin' At Ya (1981) & Treasure Of The Four Crowns (1983), a lot of these I actually got to see in 3D at the cinema in the mid to late Eighties & fondly remember having a real blast with watching with friends.
      There are quite a few Blu-ray 3D releases that are Region A locked, so thankfully now I am able to overcome this. One 3D classic Sci-Fi flick I will most definitely now be picking up Region A is, Gog (1954).
      Anyway, I really hope that you get great benefit from this Sony 4K player & if there may be any other points, queries you may have please do let me know. I have given it a full work out now & feel completely at home with it & used to its set up & all round use. Here's to many years of reliable & enjoyable service & use :)

      Hey Paul, yeah I am sure Sony will come out with an update eventually, Jumanji is gonna look amazing in 4K and with Dolby Vision!
      I have been having a few problems with my machine, it has frozen on various occasions and the only way to get it working again was to unplug it at the socket, so think I am gonna have to send it back, really annoying as these things take a while!

    • @buckaroobanzai
      @buckaroobanzai 5 років тому

      Hi Benn. Sorry to hear you are having issues. The freezing & Lip Synch do seem apparent, so we have had a case of both, one each between us ! Did you send the machine back for a replacement ?
      The lip synch is prevelant when the Dolby Vision is turned on, so hopefully that can be sorted with an upgrade download later from Sony. It seems that the functionality of sound distribution / connectivity between this player & LG TVs from 2016 / 2017 is an issue, which again hopefully can be sorted. I have a 2016 OLED LG 4K TV of course, but as the TV has Dolby Vision built in, which works fantastically, the only problem for me is when playing the 4K Dolby Vision discs or using the Dolby Vision on the Sony. A lesser annoyance for me than what you have unfortunately. The quietness of the player is truly wonderful though, makes my previous machine sound like a hovercraft. Great not to hear the machine in use & just enjoy the movies. Jumanji is a terrific film, really enjoyed & the 4K looks lovely :)
      Have a great weekend Benn.

      @@blu-raybenn4854 lol i'm actually going to keep it, i like it now (after doing more test)... Plus it's better at upscaling then the LG. I was able to see the difference once I turned off Dolby vision on the Sony. I noticed if u leave it on it forces DV on every thinggggg so now i have to figure out if the movie has it or not, or else it'll turn skin tone extra red(i don't know about ur tv but on new oledtv it becomes strong) ..... Btw how did u get over this issue. It's annoying. For example; I'm watching Harry Potter collection but it's in Blu-ray shouldn't it be HDR or Dolby vision since it's blu-ray. On the box it doesn't say anything.

    I like that simple controller, and I don't think that the buttons are to close! To be honest, that controller to the left from you are exactly the bad negative you said about Sony's controller! Are you shore that you had the right controller in your hand? And why are you negative about no display showing you how much time it is left on a movie? If you dont have time to watch a movie, then why start a movie in the first place? That isn't something to dislike really! I rather forget about the time when watching a movie, specially if it is a really good one, than having a display that i can look at, that helps me wanting / wishing the movie to end soon enough! I'm not an expert either, but I do catch a few things sometimes. And a blue ray player isn't build and meant to hit the floor, so it should be just fine normally, don't you think! But i do agree, it is a fine blue ray player for the money!

      @blu-raybenn4854  4 роки тому

      Hi there, first off, thanks for watching, really appreciate it, yes I am holding and talking about the correct controller, and I have a lot of problems with the buttons, many times I want to pause a film or Netflix and I press the stop button at the same time, it is so annoying, my wife has the same problem and always shouts at me, and many people have told me they have the same problem.
      With regards to the time display, I watch things while having lunch before work, and it is really useful to have to see if I will be able to see an episode of something in time before leaving and as my old player had it, I had become used to it so much that now I find it annoying not to have it, hope that has explained your queries, thanks again, take care and merry Christmas.

      Both me and my wife and the rest in our family have no problem with the controller whatsoever, very easy to use. I think that people have other controller in use, which they are more used to, and that could in some cases be the reason why people do press wrong button. Merry Christmas to you as well, and hopefully a good happy New Year 2020.
