Just picked this up and really like it. Simple & thinky at the same time. Love the art too. One thing about the scoring - It's only the Plant or Vegetable tiles (those with 3 flowers on them) that need to be connected to the same color in order to score the flowers. So in the example given, the lone flower on the isolated black tile would score 1 point.
I love this one! I got it a few weeks ago and between my wife, my son, and I, we've played it 22 times already. It's actually my favorite release of the year.
Me too. I respect both Graeme and Zee's opinions quite a lot.... Zee, when are you going to post the video where you and Graeme arm wrestle over this? I need to reconcile your experiences.
Only flowers on plants or vegetables must be connected by a pipe to a tile of the same color. Flowers on pipes that are part of the machine always count (see example scoring in the rules)
PSA: If you're colour blind and worried about the accessibility (like I was) - the colours are differentiated by symbol as well. Can confirm it is playable. I might have missed it but would be nice to hear Dice Tower reviews mention this, maybe Zee could have a new category - accessibility ;)
I’m always on the look out for great 2 player games that will work well in the outdoors (no cards to blow away in the wind and small table presence) and this one will work nicely. Already ordered a copy 🙂 I already have both Jaipur and Ankh’or by the same designer so this will make a nice little trio.
I was also surprised at how much Graeme Anderson disliked it. Bryan Drake, however, was a fan. I own the game and like it very much. Glad to see Zee's stellar review and rating.
It's interesting how different your opinion is from Graeme Anderson's a few weeks ago. His arguments seem to make sense, but you didn't talk about any of those. It might matter on how people play the game (how cooperatively or agreesively) they do it? Or does that not really matter? Do you really have actual strategy or not really much at all, at the end of it?
Since the designers are Swiss and two have French last names, I'm going to assume the name of this game is pronounced "Botaneek", like the French "Botanique", but a "k" is more Steam Punk, I guess. Also, I don't get the hate of the faces. Steam Punk aesthetics are mostly taken from Art Deco and those faces are the epitome of Art Deco.
WRONG! CLEARLY the game is based on the early life of Dr. Robotnik before he started trying to take over the world by creating an army of animal cyborgs. Jk ;)

I was similarly taken with this game and was surprised by one of the other reviews on the DT of it. Glad to see it getting some love!

Thanks Zee I will pick this up based on your recommendation!!
Thank you Zee I love your 2 player picks so I guess I will be buying another one… ;)

For whatever reason, this set is much better lit and set up than the other ones. I hope the other ones get the same treament soon.
We love this game! It's a great 2-player filler, especially after a long day at work. Glad you like it, too.

Jk ;)
As a French speaking person I did also read it as Botanique.
