From MPR News:
One-half of crew evacuated from Lake Superior freighter for safety reasons
One-half of the 22-person crew of the Michipicoten, a 689-foot freighter traveling on Lake Superior, have left the boat for safety. The vessel is now headed to a nearby port, U.S. Coast Guard officials say.
The Michipicoten was filled with taconite when it began to take on water on Saturday after possibly colliding with something underwater.
“It’s a rapidly evolving situation so for safety concerns they started to remove the crew members from the vessel,” said Omar Faba of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Another bulk carrier, the Edwin H. Gott, is currently riding alongside the Michipicoten. The U.S. Coast Guard, Border Patrol, and the National Park Service are also involved. - Авто та транспорт
Keeping my fingers crossed the Michipicoten is repairable and Fraser Shipyard can work their magic...🤞⚓
💯
I thought it was already back?
Still in the drydock.
Yes I truly hope she can be repaired, a long history that we older folks want to see continue if possible!😊😊😊😊😊
I hope so too! Rumor has it they are on the schedule for loading ore at BNSF July 5? We shall see this week!
Beautiful ship. Great job.
Many thanks!
Love her! Hope they can repair and she can sail again.
Indeed!
She previously cracked her deck under her old name years ago, according to a historian and author, Wes Oleszewski.
I have seen -> SPECULATION
Maybe proper loading is becoming a lost art....

@@PaulScinoccaloading must be an art. As 1st mate my Dad was responsible for loading. Thanks
The bridge was lax on the salute .
🤣 Such a nice way of putting it!
why did it come into Duluth when it was bound for dry dock in Superior?
They usually arrive via the Duluth Entry when heading to Fraser. Less distance from the Duluth Entry to Fraser than the Superior Entrance. This was a few weeks before their Fraser arrival.
They docked her in Thunder Bay harbour and unloaded to another ship then patched and brought back empty for repair
That they did, My office is next door to Fraser Shipyards, I can see it out my office window.
