Symphony No. 014 by one of the most prolific and prominent composers of the Classical period, Franz Joseph Haydn.
Haydn is the father of the symphony. His music is amazing in harmony, grace and elegance. Viva Haydn a true genius of music that gives us unforgettable moments of pleasure and haunting music. Bravissimo.
Fine early symphony. One of the best in the 1-20 set I would say.

There is not really a weak symphony* at all in the group of 1 to 20, though we should remember that they are all early works that in many cases pre-date Haydn’s appointment at Eszterhaza in 1761.
Also, there are some badly misnumbered symphonies which should be included in this ‘early’ group as well, for example: 32, 33, 36, 37 (actually Haydn’s second symphony c. 1758); 40 and 72 (all pre-1763).
If I had to pick any out, you could not ignore 3; 6,7 and 8 (Le Matin, Le Midi, Le Soir);12; 13; and 16, though there is much of interest in almost all the others too.
In short: it is virtually impossible to pick out ‘...one of the best’ of these early symphonies.
* The Haydn symphony - out of the total of 107 - that I might describe as his weakest, is the very early Symphony ‘A’ Hob. I:107 written c.1759.
