Yes this is a great commentary regarding the allegorical vs historical nature is scripture. Here I think is a better one addressing the innerancy of scripture ua-cam.com/video/4RBjkHBEfqE/v-deo.html
As the friend, I will point out that while Mr. Hamilton says Gregory is "Just wrong", there are other saints who make the same point and I will prefer to stick to their exegesis. 😊 St. Chrystostom is engaged in his own project in scriptural exegesis and cant be reasonably compared. That being said, I love you all! Please, pray for me!
I have read all of the early Church Fathers. Augustin and Chrysostom both were post-Nicaean fathers. Before Nicaea there was no cannon of scriptures. The scriptures were determined by vote by a group of bishops assembled by Constantine. Origen was taught by Clement of Alexandria who was taught maybe even by Mark who wrote the Gospel. Clement explains why the scriptures are hidden truth found in metaphors and allegories' Even the Ten commandments are not to be read literally. After all some who may honor their father may be doing the same criminal activity that their father did or worshipping idols as their mother did. Even before Clement a early Christian taught that we are born in a paradise of innocence, And within us grows up a tree of knowledge and a tree of life and when we do not seek to retain the knowledge we are left naked ; no longer able to live in the paradise of innocence. It was the teachings of the Apostles and Clement that persuaded the Romans to leave their gods and become Christians. And the person that explained to me the story of Joshua that was most reasonable was John Cassian. Joshua starts by claiming to be a book of the law that we should meditate on to bring success. Growing up a son of a professor of the scriptures I could not understand why Joshua could have any thing to do with the law or success. But John Cassian stated that he learned from a teacher in Egypt that the story was about the conquering not people but the seven faults within us. Baby sins must be killed as well as those that would be like the seduction of a woman. So all faults must be conquered. The Kingdome of God is within us.
Inerrancy of the scriptures was irrelevant to anyone before Nicaea. At Nicaea they just decided what book could be read in the Churches. It is only the modern Church that has substituted that term "Word of God"( Logos) and changed its ancient meaning to be the book we call the Bible today. Instead of worshiping the Word of God as the ancient Christians they now worship a book as the Jews do. If you ask a modern evangelical what the Word of God is they will tell you it is the Bible. But all early Christian are clear the Word of God that is sharper than any two edged sword is the Logos of God, Jesus. In the beginning was the Word. It was with God and it was God. It was not a book.
No, they believe that the error is with the way we read it. In the Bible historical events are spoken of side by side with their spiritual significance, both written in the same register. This means that there is often a difficulty in separating the spiritual exegesis from the historical events. The historical event could be of a person who improved their moral character, but the Bible may describe this in terms of an elaborate story so that the reader can grasp the literal changes as well as the spiritual ones. The reason the same register is employed for both history and theology is to show that the spiritual and material worlds are both in God, and only falsely separated by The Fall.
Orthodoxy added the bowing before, censing, sprinkling water on, kissing and veneration of icons (paintings of people) to their other traditions of men. These practices weren't taught by Jesus or His Apostles.
How do you know that ? lol, you do know early church fathers like icons from Luke the evangelist are prescribed to Luke and have many early church fathers speaking of icons
@@jogon2433 The idea that Luke created "icons" wasn't brought up until the 7th century. Strange how it wasn't by anyone in the 5 centuries prior to that. That's because it's not true and had been DEBUNKED.
@@dustindustindontworry-jz8dh you forgot to mention my other statement of earlier church fathers speaking about icons lol since the 1-2nd century lol, ofc they’re not gonna have churches full of icons right after Jesus.. because they were killing them off 💀

I love that, no matter what, all truth leads to Christ and Orthodox Christianity.
I remember when the title of this video was "Do Orthodox Christians Reject Biblical Inherency?" Good times.

Nice to hear Inspiring Philosophy being mentioned. Orthodox UA-camrs seldom look into these kinds of ministry
The classic "it's both; and." So (frustratingly) true

Facts
Does this mean they believe the Bible has errors?
No, it just means that it cannot be treated as a mere set of facts to be falsified or declared descriptively accurate
Nah, bro, the whole point of the video is that we don't think it does. Watch the full convo for more context
