You should listen to his last 4 albums that he has done with Ethan Johns. I always thought Jones had a great voice but, like you, wasn't really a big fan due mainly to the material he had done most of his career and the Last Vegas scene he had gotten involved in at one point. However, his work with John's has been a breath of fresh air and the clever selection of material combined with the stripped down arrangements featured on their work together help showcase Jones's vocal talent and versatility as a performer. I would recommend you start with Praise and Blame, his first album with Johns and work your way to present, namely his last album Surrounded by Time. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Me also - not a Tom Jones fan.. but this .. and another outing with CSN confirms him as a true Great who could turn his talent t any genre !

The two living legends, the tenors who sing baritones now, due to the diaphragm weakening, who even are of a similar age, who sang with the same fellow musicians and did their own renditions of the equal evergreen songs. See? A lot of similarities between them two.

If I didn't know any better I would say that the musicians were Michael Rother on guitar and Hans Lampe on drums (from Krautrock band Neu!).

Heard on this Radio 2 this morning and was blown away! Didn’t know it was a Bob Dylan song (sorry) but I absolutely love this version and have been playing it all day. Love the mix of your voice and the electric guitars and bass. My goodness it takes a lot for a new song to move me but this is reverberating inside my head and I can’t stop listening ❤️

Mark Woodward warrants praise, (and most-likely Ethan Johns), on the production/arrangement of this track. Some do not like the up-tempo aspect of this song, but I LOVE IT. Congrats to Mark and Ethan on #TheHourGlassEdition, along with #SurroundedByTime. Sir Tom, your voice compliments everything, so this is a winner in my book. This is the sea-enjoy every minute of the sail.

Instead of the original pensive approach, this carries a sense of a urgency, as if the conductor knows that the train he is riding is approaching the end of the tracks, and he wants to embrace every moment that he has left. It adds a whole new power to the original, and the original performance by Dylan is BRILLIANT.
