  • Fall tasks are piling up! Peony roots showed up last week and my top priority became getting them in the ground ASAP. I planted 15 each of four varieties: Sarah Bernhardt, Coral Sunset, Catharina Fontijn, and Duchesse de Nemours. I stuck to pink, coral and blush/white varieties for this order.
Fifteen more peonies will show up this fall to plant, and a few thousand daffodils and other bulbs(!). Which feels like a lot for our little operation, and I am in a continuous state of dreaming of how phenomenal this rose/peony/bulb patch is going to be. After this fall planting this patch should be in maintenance mode. We'll replace things that don't make it but the bulk of the planting will be done for the foreseeable future. I'm pretty excited for that.
We have frost in the forecast which means its also time to pick as much of the tender food crops as reasonable, and check through the dahlias to make sure I've got labels on all the plants I want to save. I picked green tomatoes, basil for pesto, and chili peppers.

I love watching you harvest in peace and quiet. No music, just the sound of outdoors. So peaceful
