This video never mentions the deepest reason for the division. A strike at the iron works sparked the people across the river to scab and do their work. This is why it was ever such a deep rivalry
There’s no evidence for this, if you look at any information regarding the 1926 General Strike there’s no mention of dockers south of the river continuing to work
There’s no evidence that dockers south of the river scabbed during the 1926 General Strike. Its a myth
This man knows the score, the age-old industrial dispute was a major factor in hostilities being handed down through generations of families. Although I don't doubt the village (or hamlet) rivalry would have simmered along briskly regardless of that event.
Other than this glaring omission, the documentary maker did a reasonable job of researching the subject. The clipped film footage doesn't necessarily correlate with specific events as they're referenced.
Im a west ham fan, and have Millwall mates. But best believe that friendship goes out the window whenever we play each other
West Ham is Ethan team
Millwall is Josh team
I am a Millwall fan who was at that "Friendly" Testimonial game in 1972. I first went 10 years earlier and am in my 7th-decade of attending.
Was it as bad as they said?
@@CIMAmotor Sorry,My Friend but I have,literally,just seen your comment.
All I remember is West Ham fans trying to get into The Millwall Home End:The Cold Blow Lane and being shunted around all over the place, around the terraces, onto the pitch and, sporadically, trouble, flared throughout the game as Millwall preserved their Home End. I understoof there was trouble afterwards but I was on the bus home then,as in those days I was 2 miles from the ground.I moved 41 years ago and have a season ticket and am still less than 9 miles away. Good Luck..
more footballl content gang
different clothing brands are associated wit it too, like stone island
They band fans from wearing Burberry….. But those days was crazy
All I’m going to say is my uncle is a West Ham fan
He got found guilty for a lot and got away with a lot
Come on you irons ⚒️
West Ham is where the rapper Morrison is from. He’s pendant is the West Ham badge 💪
i’m a relatively young west ham fan, only 17, and i don’t remember ever going to a millwall game as i was 5 when we last played them. despite this, i fucking detest them, there isn’t one millwall fan on this earth that i will ever respect.
That is your narrow-mindedness and loss. This Millwall fan, born next to the largest housing estate in Northern Europe in South East London earned a Scholarship to a prestigious Grammar School that boasted 350 years of academic excellence. I gained many "O" and "A" Levels and then a good Degree at Gonville and Caius, Cambridge University, and have had a wonderful life. Never been involved in any real altercation in attending 1,776 matches and have been out, socially nearly 8,000 times around London, without major incident. I have owned 2 medium-sized Businesses and looked after myself. When you have achieved a fraction of what I have from a family where my Dad's final wage was £20 per week, then we can talk. MILLWALLLLLLLL
Arguably the nastiest rivalry in British football. But from what i've heard, WHUFC see Spurs as their big rival now. That's the new breed. For the old timers it's still Millwall.
The West Ham / Chelsea rivalry is interesting as well, going back to the 70's and different firms being on top at different times through the ages.
I believe going back to the 70's and maybe early 80's, some Millwall would join with Chelsea according to some Chelsea old boys, possibly if Chelsea had a potentially good fight at home and Millwall were away to a shit team, the Millwall lads crossed town for some fun.
What exactly happened to stop the 'friendship' I don't know, but it could account for the hatred some older hammers feel for Chelsea.
you should do a movie reaction to "green street". it's a movie based on this exact rivalry, and it is not exaggerated.
Come on football content
come on your irons
