- A final, spirited departure from Watford Junction from BR Large Logo blue 56098, leading thirteen mk1 and mk2 coaches and BR Blue classmate 56081 away to Wembley Central towards the end of a superb commemorative tour for the class.
It won’t be the end for 56s in general, with Colas and DCR still running examples on the mainline to this day, but it will certainly be the last passenger duties GBRf’s final remaining pair carry out before a one-way trip to Longport for conversion into class 69s.
So perhaps we will see these two on passenger trains again in the future, but certainly not in a form like this…
Great to see this tour Alex, I went for the other one, nicely filmed. Cheers Mike.
Cheers Mike, was a nice day out with 550 miles of 56 haulage for those on the full tour. I followed the progress of the other tour from the train.
Great shots! The retro liveries and railtour have been good send off for these two Grids.
Lovely stuff Al!
Great video! I saw them at Kings Langley.
Cheers, I was on it so that is the only video I got all day of it lol.
What's that first coach used for , some sort of generator ? Thanks
Yeah it's a generator for providing electric train heating and lighting etc. Locos don't have it themselves.
