- CONSORT SW1 sing Bach's 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring' which comes from Cantata 'Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben', BWV 147.
This was sung in April 2020 which was at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic. A very sad time, but members of CONSORT SW1 came together to sing this beautiful music.
Directed, accompanied and produced by me - Richard McVeigh :)

So beautiful! Shows what can be accomplished by skilled choral singers, even when singing "virtually". I'm so glad you chose to use the German text...it's so deeply devotional and emotional, as opposed to the English paraphrase, which is lacking in both.
It's just an overwhelming testimony that the worlds most influential composer was a true and firm believer in Jsus Christ and dedicated his work to his God.
For me it's goosebumps all over each time I hear this powerful confession. Thanks for a great performance!
Richard: You and your brilliant group of singers have made me REALLY happy by re-posting this latest version of one of my all-time favourite and often viewed videos (especially when I'm in need of a serious dollop of 'solace'). I thought it had gone for good when it disappeared, and that made me very sad. That may sound daft, but, I LOVE this video more than you can possibly imagine. Thank you. More importantly, this rendition surely achieves that highest of high standards which can, and has now been proven to exist, and to me, this video IS the de-facto standard against which ALL Virtual Choir performances will and should be compared and judged. Beautiful beyond description. Tx
DAFT?
So beautiful. Impeccable production. Immersive and emotional performance. Thank you!
WOW!!! This is one of my favourite pieces of music by Bach. When I was at school and in the School Choir we used to sing it but with the English words. Such a superb piece and with the voices of Angels singing. Thank you Richard, Caroline and Choir.
WONDERFUL CHOIR
Good work everyone in choir
Richard you outdid your self
Keep it up 👍

Can really hear Caroline’s voice through it all (in a good way) - brilliant Richard !
Lovely to have this recording back again. Thank you!
I may add an extra applause for that nearly perfect german pronouncation. No accent was heard at all. Superbly made. With love, a German.
Thank once again for this wonderful performance and thank you for putting lyrics!
Oh, Wow! How beautiful! What a joy and piece! Thank you for this Brilliant Performance! May God bless you and your loved ones!
Thank god for beautiful music In a world of tormoil
And there's one little appendix referring to the very last sentence and it's translation.
In German: "Darum lass' ich Jesum nicht aus dem Herzen und Gesicht."
"I will not leave Jesus out of my heart and my sight (or vision)."
"Gesicht" literally translates to "face" but it's used differently here for achieving the lyrical measure. So it might be translated as "sight" or "vision" here.
Just my two cents.
OMG.. This gave me chills.. What a wonderful and labor intensive project... Brough me back to my choir days. Thank you, Rich
I have sung that before, was in the Neval Concert Choir (way back in the 1950s at Bainbridge Naval Training Station - now closed) when I first heard and sang that piece by JS Bach...one of my own many favorites by JS Bach...unfortunately my voice is now pretty much gone...and I can only listen these days....
Truly beauty in sound. An absolutely gorgeous rendition (even with me singing softly in the background - headphones are a godsend!)
Can I change my answer to your poll on our preference? I answered organ music, but this made me change my mind.
😪❤️ Just viewed this again - so beautiful, so beautiful. True Beauty in Sound.
yes this is truly lovely. The phrasing you bring to the music is delicious and you achieve a lovely balance in this virtual performance. Thank you for showing all aspects of the performers including the organist's feet - very helpful for our organ scholar to learn from your footwork. Thank you!
This incredibly lovely. Thank you very much for all the effort it must have taken to have achieved it.
Sehr schön. Gutes Deutsch. Ich habe alles gut verstanden.
Ich bin froh, dass unsere deutsche Aussprache gut war. Danke für deinen Kommentar!
The lockdown in most parts of the world occasioned by the COVID19 can never stop man from praising God either in a community or online like this.
I must disagree. Except for in homes, we are stopped even from attending in our churches, much less singing in them, for fear even with masks, of spreading the "foe of Covid-19" which now (10-11-2020) has killed more than 215,000 human beings in the USA alone. It is indeed the "foe of this year . . . and perhaps next year, as well." Lift up our hearts, O God, to worship and praise You for the lives which continue and give still greater wisdom to scientists and physicians to create healing medicines. Protect, we pray, babies and all little children from coming to suffer and die from the dreaded, black evil of the Pandemic. Through Christ, Amen.
How Beautiful! Excellent! And so inspiring during these difficult times for many individuals! Keep up the good work!
Beautiful! Great work!
BREATHTAKING! And I loved having the German text to sing w/it, on my 3rd time of listening. This UA-cam program is yet another happy discovery of BIS organ selections! The choral singers are superb...
Danke, dass ihr das auch mal in meiner Sprache aufgenommen habt. So schön zu hören ❤️ich habe es unter so vielen Dirigenten gesungen. Auch in englisch. International chore.
Bravissimo!!
well done! simply beautiful.
Beautiful!!!❤️ Well Done!👏👏👏👏😸
Loved it!! Delighted to see this wonderful video back up!
Can't get enough of this. BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO xxx
One of the few good things that came from the pandemic was the art (truly so) of the virtual concert. Of the many such concerts I enjoyed during those times, local and international, this is, by far, my favorite. In fact, it may be one of my all-time favorite music videos. I have always loved this music, and it was one of the first I learned (self taught) to play on the piano. And I particularly love that you have displayed the German text, allowing for a “sing along.”
I truly enjoy hearing/seeing you play, and I sincerely appreciate you sharing your art with us. Thank you!
That was so powerful with the direct German translation present amidst all of the skilful presentation and the superb musicianship.
the best thing I've heard since christmas - is it caroline in the sopranos

That's the most delightful sound I've ever heard. Is that your wife singing in that piece?
Yes, Caroline is on the left (the one not wearing the Spice World jumper!)
My eyes were leaking half way through that performance.@@beautyinsound

Wow, music to my ears!🎶😊🙏❤️
Sounds great, but why does everyone look so miserable?
COVID era. Lots of people feel unhappy.
@@Dave-qj1vx Lots don't too.
I’m singing...I didn’t intend to look miserable, apologies! I was concentrating on not messing up my German pronunciation 😂
Magnificent!
