I didn't know 7 words could make me cry so easily until I played Kingdom Hearts
I always think of this scene when I say I'm going to change for the better. My weight, laziness, goals, being a good respectful non racist person, goal of finding my very first girlfriend, etc. Procrastinated several times. 2023, starting my depression because I don't want to change. Hence the quote "looks like my summer vacation is over"

Relax college isnt even close to the real world yet. Also lifr after college is what you make of it granted. Life isnt "over". In fact its when it truly begins although granted if you needed to do the prework. Basically in terms of kingdom hearts, you become sora after college affer playing as roxas.
So what do you do now?
2:15 for some reason I always wrongly remembered Roxas saying, "I was supposed to have one more day." before he says his summer vacation is over. This prologue alone is one reason why Kingdom Hearts II is one of my all-time favorites.
That line was actually from the kh2 manga
I loved it when seeing this game for the first time and not knowing what was going on only to find out that sora was in that pod not knowing how he got their and when he wakes up the real adventure begins
I played Chain of Memories GBA very first game didn't know what was going on but i got used to gameplay beat story confusing for me so bought KH PS2 Game then 2 got me hooked on series
Rolee Mack I first saw the first game then moved to the 2nd and that is what confused me

Kingdom Hearts 2 is probably the best one overall. This scene had us kids tearing up, I was only 10 lol

What an unreal prologue for a game, phenomenal
It’s the best one
“It looks like my summer vacation is... over...” is one of the most powerful lines in this series, and it makes me sob every time I replay the game. It’s so somber yet powerful. A bittersweet goodbye to Roxas’ story. And the reveal of the title card just hits it right on the head. Roxas sacrificed himself so Sora’s story could continue and they could have a journey together in a completed body. Summer’s end and Sora’s new beginning. This is Kingdom Hearts 2.
And what Sora does , he still puts everyone first (including his nobodies)over himself, Hence, everyone getting united at the cost of his life
Just makes his return in Kingdom Hearts 3 all the more heartwarming
I love that as soon as he sees Sora sleeping, he knows what he has to do, and no longer fights his destiny. He feels that part of himself that was missing and know it's his only way of being whole, of making Sora whole. Beautiful
I never played KH1. I was recommended KH2 and borrowed it from a friend, so I didnt know who Sora even was.
I was just... Roxas, and I liked Roxas. I felt terrible for him as his happy everyday life begins to slowly fall apart and there's nothing he can do to stop it.
Friends forget him, old aquaintences show up but he can't remember them, and then this scene hits. And you realise Roxas was never meant to exist, and all those memories will fade as another person walks on.
I HATED Sora for that. It wasnt until his return to Twilight town that I really forgave him. What an excellent game.
True story:
It was August 2006. My brother and I had been playing Kingdom Hearts II for a week now and we finally reached this scene where Roxas finds Sora. No joke, when I first saw this scene and the screen fade to white with the Kingdom Hearts II logo show up, I thought that was the end of the game. It seemed so apporpriate and when I was a kid, I never had a video game last longer than 3 hours. To this day... I still think the game ended here...
For Roxas it did, that's why it's so sad.
10 months, no reply??? i love that; i personally hopped on the KH wave after DDD but i fenvy you & youre brother because this is the best KH & i coulnd't imagine beeting it that early

it's crazy that Roxas was so determined that his heart was "his" and he wasn't ready to give anything up....but as soon as that pod opened up and he saw Sora inside, he knew it was over. For whatever reason it just makes it that much more sad.
Roxas's realization about what's going on with him and Sora tugs at my heartstrings. It really sucks that we don't get much of Roxas post-358/2 again until after the story's been dragged through the mud with retcons and time travel
You were born trying to find your own purpose. Once you found out, you realized it was only for you to revive someone from sleeping by offering your own life.
And along that path, you also knew that all your life was a lie from the very beggining.

Even when I was a little kid playing this game I understood how tragic this was with Roxas sacrificing his own life to wake up someone he knows nothing about
After playing Chain of Memories, everything makes more sense now.

@@sofiab.5633 yeah. The story to kingdom hearts before DDD is convoluted but not too hard to understand when you look at the big picture. There are a couple of strange parts, but really it isn't too hard to follow. Post dream drop distance is a nightmare though

I used to watch this clip on the last night of summer vacation. It's been almost 3 years since I've last seen it. Still bittersweet.
2:18 Hey game devs and film directors, take notes. You don’t need a big action set pieces with explosions to get people into your setting. You can use mystery, character development and story (with a pinch of tragedy) to knock it out of the fucking park.
Movies are made for the global audience, which is too unintelligent to care about good storytelling.
This whole sequence still devastates me and gets me pumped simultaneously every time. The Roxas section is devastating in hindsight, but Sora awakening gets me ready to embark on an adventure every time.

8/21/22: 2nd year of doing this, still feels somewhat bittersweet. Time flys
8/21/23: 3rd year of coming back! Off to a rough start to junior year of college. But I know this year is gonna be great. Time goes so fast.
8/21/24 Final year of doing this. Insane to think this is my last year. Passing on the torch to someone else.
Glad someone will carry on that tradition. Since this will be last year doing it.

It always hits like a train. I still remember the chills I had the first time I saw this scene as a teenager.
I think we've all at one point experienced sadness when our summer vacation ended, but damn in this case it's a real tragedy. In Roxas' case, it's not just marking the end of his happiness, but also his innocence. How can you go from worrying about summer homework to facing the harsh reality that you were never supposed to exist literally in the span of one week?
This is the scene that really got me into kingdom hearts. The sheer excitement when I first saw this scene on my tv was amazing.
A young boy fades from existence. And sora donald and goofy and jumping in a circle and laughing.

Still hurts like the first time I played. F me, it’s such a heartbreaking scene tbh, knowing that there is literally nothing he or you can do to allow them to both exist while awake.
This was the first times I ever got emotional during a video game, I was super young but this game holds a VERY special place in my heart. I feel like this was when KH peaked as a franchise lol.

This part of the game is so freaking sad. Just how Roxas was spending those few days blissfully unaware of his past as a member of the organization and was instead hanging out with his friends doing normal kid stuff. And then that all came crashing down suddenly when he found out that he isn’t even supposed to exist and isn’t allowed to be his own person. Roxas is an amazing and very tragic character.

It’s as if they all knew they hadn’t seen each other in a long time just like how we as fans don’t see these games in a longer time and whenever a new mainline KH game comes out we’re all super happy to see these characters again as if reuniting with friends we haven’t seen in a long time 🥹

Back when storytelling actually meant something. KH3 was such a let down.
No. It wasn't a let down. Kh3 was all about resolution and I loved every moment of it and the revelations of Xehanort.
I really hate how people say they hate KH3 just “because its bad”. I agree the game sucked and its one of the worst games I played in my life... but most people never give a why example of the game. The story of 3 felt like such a disgrace because you spend 90% of the game just dicking around in numerous disney worlds, which overstay their welcome far more than 2... and the finale felt so rushed and half baked that it honestly left such a bad taste. 2 at least had direct story telling, all be it there were a lot of instances where it felt far more padded

@@OWmyDragonballz The problem was that it had too many loose ends to tie up. For Kairi's sake we rescued Ventus and Aqua in half an hour after spending 3 hours in Frozen land watching shot for shot remakes of "let it go" and that other song while wasting time with Olaf.

People seem to misunderstand Roxas.
He DID break after everything he went through, like Riku did in the past. If Riku became Ansem's successor, then Roxas is Xemnas's, because Riku destroyed the friendship between him and Xion when he told her to keep their encounters secret. Roxas tried to get Kingdom Hearts for himself. He was willing to sacrifice reality for her, like Riku was willing to sacrifice the worlds for Sora.
Why does everyone keep saying they're so innocent ? They're awesome characters and people, but they're not heroes. They are like Darth Revan. They are whatever fits their needs. And I ask you...What's so wrong with that ?

to me the worse part is that Riku couldnt see Sora as a friend until he was completed... Kairi got her heart back in her body and it created a Nobody so really DiZ and co were the villains here. Roxas could have won against Xemnas... hell Nomura said so... Roxas with his 2 Keyblades is stronger than Final Form Sora... it was the dusk shit that gave Xemnas leeway... if Roxas had grown his own heart Sora would not have needed to wake up...
I'm not gonna lie. My respect for Jesse Mccartney grew 10 times more after this.

i have a semi conspiracy theory, japan likes using fluid filled healing/sleeping chambers for main characters to be in, maybe a last minute change due to time constraints or trouble animating water pouring out on opening made this, sora is floating, might have originally been floating in that fluid and instead of reanimating the whole sequence, they just deleted the water altogether.
i reiterate, this is my personal theory, not researched

Best if all of you gamers play both "Chain of Memories" and "358/2 Days" before engaging to part two of the series.
I disagree on the Days. Part. It's better to experience the series in release order. Besides, the last scene in Days where Roxas talks about his days of summer vacation hits harder if you already played KH2 and know Roxas is going to fuse with Sora and say a similar line about how his summer vacation is over.
This is why KH:COM and KH:Days shouldn't be played after KH2.

I love Roxas, but there were a few points during the prologue, playing as him, that I found annoying (the one boss fight for example lol)
