  • December 9, 2012 was the first day same-sex couples could legally wed in the state of Washington. During the holiday concert on December 9 for Seattle Men's Chorus (SMC), two couples were married on stage. Neil Hoyt (member of SMC) and his partner of 24 years, Donald Jenny, were married first. Then Jane Abbott Lighty and Pete-e Petersen, both members of Seattle Women's Chorus and together for 35 years, were married next. Anne Levinson, retired judge and former deputy Seattle mayor, officiated. Dennis Coleman and Rhonda Juliano were witnesses. In front of both choruses and an audience of over 2,000 people, these couples tied the knot in a day of love, celebration, and pure joy! This video made possible by viewer donations. I was in the audience for this. As wonderful as this video is, it doesn't capture the tidal wave of love and enthusiasm from everyone in the house. Mazeltov to all!

I've known Neil and Donn nearly forever. I had no idea when I started to watch this video that they would be one of the couples. What an amazing thing to witness! What an amazing day!

Proof that with enough voices singing, you can't tell that half of us are sobbing between notes (and the other half are grinning so big their faces are ready to split)!

Its so wonderful to see such happiness. I attended the SMC Christmas show the weekend before this ceremony and wish I had been able to be there again that day. I am a proud Washington State resident who was happy to have the opportunity to vote for Ref 74! As a straight person living my life the way I want to live it, I am so happy to have had a part in allowing others to have that same right!

My partner Scott and I were in attendance that night (in fact, you can actually see us in one of the balconies in crowd pan shot). I'd never seen him cry before and I never do at weddings, but this one really hit me/us. Such a poignant and beautiful moment and one of the most inspirational things I have seen in my 35 years alive. Way to pave the way Washington! Never stop the pursuit of equal rights!!

You are just going to have to deal with your anger and frustration because gay people are getting married whether u like it or not. Gay marriage might be legal nationwide by next year through the supreme court. What are u going to do with your life then? Homophobes have had their time in the sun, NOW its time for gay people to get the equality they deserve. The arc of the moral universe is long but it always bends towards justice.

As someone who was there (with Dale, my own partner of 32 years), I don't think there were many dry eyes in the packed audience. Especially perfect was the singing of Bernstein's hymn from 'West Side Story' just after the couples were married. We are all blessed to have this video.

So beautiful! I'm crying and cheering! Congratulations to the couples. Thank you to the state of Washington and to the Choruses for making this possible. How could anyone believe that this is wrong and want to deny these wonderful people the right to be married? I wish that I could hug all of you!

Equal Rights? Heterosexual marriage equalizes the two sexes: the two different sexes equally share the power to create life, they equally share female and male instincts with each other share and their children, they equally biologically own their own children, they equally share their paternal and maternal instincts with their children, children are created by both man and woman and as such have the right to be raised by a man and woman which is protected by traditional marriage. This is what you find in the best of traditional marriage. This is not found in the best of homosexual marriage. Homosexuals want to change the definition of marriage to equal traditional marriage which is a contradiction in terms because homosexuals cannot match the rights that belong to traditional marriage. There is NO equal rights in a homo sexual marriage; rather its a destruction of traditional family.

Straight people sodomize each other all the time with oral sex, vaginal sex using contraceptives or while infertile and anal sex. U are confused. I support gay people fully. Your time and the remaining homophobes' time has come to an end. Gay marriage WILL be legal in the entire U.S. and there is nothing u can do about it except foam in the mouth and pout. How pathetic and embarassing!
