Another Masterpiece!!! XD
I love your videos! So informative and really charming, this is easily my favourite history channel on UA-cam. Thanks so much for your hard work!
Dude I love your Hannibal series! Keep up the good work!!!
why so late? :(
@@themandateofheaven4655 There was a slight delay at the end of last year which knocked on, however, there is plenty of Hannibal to come!
10:50
I love the narrative style here, hiding Hannibals main tactic until it's unveiling. Keeps the suspense.
It's something other channels should also start doing honestly
Thank you sir for the positive feedback.
@Nuclear Nadal
Me too man. As for now, you can check out the series on the Kings and Generals channel. It's pretty good and the series is still active.
As for the pic, it's a painting of a young Napoleon of him leading a daring charge across the bridge against an Austrian line at Pont d'Arcole where he earned his nickname "The Little Corporal"
Nice
Agree 100%
Totally agree.
Hannibal didn’t need an addition to his name like ‘the conquerer’. His name was enough to stir up fear.
Yeah, he was so bad ass he could've just ditched his last name too, even though the Barca family had some terrific generals.
He didn't even need a "THE" title to be badass.
Although he didn't really finish his conquest of Italy. On the contrary...
Being a barca is more than enoigh reason to have a nightmare for a roman
Good tactician; poor strategist. That's why Hannibal failed in the end.
Very few can claim to be both.
Patton was probably the best general in history. A master tactician AND strategist. Too bad Ike tied his hands Ghengis Khan is the other that obviously comes to mind.
Hannibal was a master of tactical warfare - his actions represented the epitome of Sun Tzu’s dictates. All warfare is based on deception. When you are near, pretend that you are far. Never let your enemy choose the place for engagement. Etc. superb video as always!
Thanks mate! I'd recommend everyone to go watch your Hannibal videos! DM-ed you on Twitter.
too bad there is no happy end for him.
@Kinder Egg World speculation. but i was more thinking of hannibal than the realms.
i own Sun's book.
Can't agree more. I'm Chinese myself and when I first read about the preparations Hannibal took at Cannae (to count on the dust thrown into the air by tens of thousands would be blown by the wind straight in the Romans' face, to prey on Varro's personality flaws, to lure in the enemies by feigning weakness, etc), I couldn't help but notice that he almost employed every trick Sun Tzu had written about despite the two never knowing about each other. Great minds think alike, indeed.
“Hannibals center is collapsing”
Well, now we all know the romans are about to lose.
hehe
Nice foreshadowing
I live in southern Italy and once I visited the ruins of a greek colony on the top of a hill. Then I discovered that the plain under the hill was the scene of a battle between romans and Pirrus (battle of heraclea). You can imagine how much I was fascinated.
Would love to go there one day.
Drop the pin, for future reference.
Pyrrhus was Hannibals idol and also a fantastic general who managed to gather together multiple different cultures and fighting styles and make them all fight the Hellenic way. He also wrote a book on tactics (which has been lost to history sadly) that Hannibal studied and implemented in his battles.
How much brother?
Getting closer and closer to Cannae 😁 great work!
Thanks mate.
but before we have the amazing Battle of Lake Trasimene
@@MaxFalange As well as some other battles and events :)
@@HistoryMarche Historia Civilis channel showed that battle a little bit differently. I suppose, sources are not perfectly clear?
If history had been taught in this way in school, students would not want to go home from school anymore. This is so good...
Education starts after school is over. School is for propaganda.
@@Pfsif I disagree, School has its advantages, any true strategist would use it to its advantage instead of brushing it off. You got a lot to learn.
It can be taught that way, is up to the teachers style. A creative teacher can keep the students entertained and learning at the same time. Also schooling doesn't end there as PFSIf mentioned. As a parent I think we are responsible to enforce that as well. I agree with you fully and partially agree with pfsif.
@@Urbicid The guy is right, school is mostly for propaganda purposes. Only excepetion for propgadna is science like mathemathics, physics, chemistry. The rest like language lessons, religion, science about society etc. is for propaganda prupose only, at least in my country.
I liked the animation where one Roman soldier (while crossingfrozen tiber) says, "Who's idea is this?"
One replied ,"Shut up and keep marching "
😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah, the on who answered was actually the consul ! 😂
@@iuliusconstantcornelio2018 😅😅
So much like the Asterix comics!
I'm impressed that Hannibal got the individualistic Celts to fight in a more classical style. Especially since a good part of their prestige system was so dependent on proving themselves in individual combat. A system that encouraged one on one duels and a eagerness to charge at the foe. Something that is very counter to the more classical style of combat.
Indeed, controlling his army so tightly is quite an achievement.
Hannibal must have been extremely persuasive and charismatic with great leadership skills.
I love how the veteran legionares managed to get out of that situation. Great video as usual
The music starting at around 4.30 helps build the tension in an awesome way. Pure gold!
anyone know what the music at the beginning is?
@@snakey934Snakeybakey Barbarian by Seb Jaeger
It's interesting here that Hannibal found himself in the same situation here at Trebia that Lee found himself at Gettysburg, centuries later: a potential unplanned battle developing from a skirmish. The difference is that Hannibal was able to gain control of his army and pull them back, while Lee simply decided that he could not withdraw and decided to fight, much to loss in his army.
Interesting point. I hadn't thought of that.
@@HistoryMarche Might make another series in the future? How different commanders approached similar battles
@@alexanderdoddy7590 That's definitely an option.
I believe it was part of Hannibal’s plan to draw in the romans vía the skirmish
I REALLY like the fact the squares are smaller, with the new units (the dots) It makes the battle way more enjoyable and more detailed, great video!
It’s been so long I need to rewatch parts 1-3 😭
Please do :)
I love how you didn’t explain the surprises of Hannibal’s tactics beforehand, small but really great touch
Thank you very much. Yes, the idea was to keep the suspense up.
Omg you're not gonna make me wait 6 months for Hannibal part 5 are you?!
Actually, part 5 is coming out in less than 10 days.
That's perfect!!!

@@FouziTheTunisian You sir, are a loyal follower. I will bless you with health and prosperity, and a long, fertile life!
Given the situation, it is miraculous that he was able to form a plan to destroy his enemies, let alone getting this mish-mash of different peoples to carry them out so perfectly.
I think it's one of your best maybe your best ! Very good synchronization between music and battles. I liked the dynamics of the music increasing as the escalation of the battle. And as always, big work on visual.
That's very kind of you. Thank you for the positive feedback.
The detail in each video is simply incredible. The History Channel doesn’t stand a chance.
As usual. What's so amazing about your video is that the atmosphere committed into it makes it feel so near to us viewers, in my opinion.
Thank you very much for the positive feedback. Much appreciated!
Yes!!!! Finally!!! Hannibal part 4! I was waiting for this like crazy! Thank You for this!!!
Absolutely brilliant video. Keep it coming lads!!! I appreciate the honest and hard work you guys put into each and every single vid. Just brilliant!
Thank you sir, much appreciated. Have you seen Liverpool vs Bournemouth today?
Man. I've waited this part with such enthusiasm! Keep up the proper work! Big like for this one, also!
Thank you sir. You'll be happy to know then that Episode 5 is coming out in about 10 days.

'What the Romans didn't know...' seems to be a theme when facing Hannibal.
Absolutely fantastic, can't wait for part 5
NEW HANNIBAL HOORAY! Loving the videos History Mache, they keep getting better and better! :)
Thank you sir!
@@HistoryMarche No problem at all! I remember when I covered this battle over on my channel, it was a little bit of a pain to animate, what with all the manoeuvres Hannibal used!
You exceed my expectations. Great work
Thank you mr. Hannibal. /bow
High quality, excellent, informative and entertaining! great video
A very vivid and engaging portrayal of how the battles played out, the best I've seen by far. Hannibal is always my favourite historical military figure, and I can't wait to see Cannae.
Thank you sir. I'm working on episode 8 right now. It should be finished in a few weeks. Two more battles before Cannae :)
@@HistoryMarche No problem, mate. Something this awesome is worth the wait.
HistoryMarche is rocking, keeeeep it coming guuys
I have not noticed this before, but I really like the achievement unlocked things that pop up and the fact you guys changed the shape of the troops from rectangles to squares...
Thank you. I actually prefer rectangles, but in this case squares were more suitable.
@@HistoryMarche hahahaha, both squares and rectangle are good
You two really are best in class at this. What a video.
I'm 4 episodes in to this series and am captivated...the production value and historical accuracy is quite impressive. Bravo!
Hats off sir! I gather that Hannibal did a European tour in the late Third Century BC, but his act didn't go down very well in Italy.
Yeah, tough crowd in Italy. Easy to beat but hard to impress :)
@@HistoryMarche Crowd surfing and Testudos don't mix.
Haha! Indeed they don't
The adventures of the daring Hannibal and the Carthaginians continues
Waited a long time for this episode, I can’t wait for part 5
You won't have to wait long. 10 days most.
HistoryMarche Keep up the good work HistoryMarche!
This video encouraged me to visit the area of the battle during a recent visit to Italy. A unique memorial of a Carthaginian war elephant stands in memory to the battle. Thank you for providing the motivation.
Wow, that's awesome that the video played a part in your decision to visit the site.
HistoryMarcheMy son is doing Ancient History at Senior High School next year and thought showing him at the very least the lie of the land and position and size of the Trebbia River would make it more real to him when they deal with the Punic Wars. I’ll also be encouraging him to use this site. Tomorrow is the 2237th anniversary of the battle too, if my maths are correct.
@@jamesroseby3823 Thank you very much. Well the good news is that I'm back to doing more Hannibal. There's still ways to go until the series is finished. Two more battles, then Cannae, then plenty more after that. Part 8 will be out this following Saturday.
Amazing the discipline the ancient soldiers had!
I first learned of this battle from Historia Civilis, and you guys really exceeded expectations in this one. Great attention to details.
Somebody get me a time machine to Feb 19 quick!
lol, I'll summon my expert craftsmen and alchemists to assist you in making that time machine :)
music is so freaking amazing.
Thank you kindly.
What's the name of the song at the beginning?
Yes cannot find the intro song, heard it on other content creator channels.
The start of this battle is the definition of "Well, that escalated quickly".
Haha, pretty much.
Thank you so much HistoryMarche. You have the best videos!! We're getting closer to Cannae and Zama!!
Yep, getting closer! :D Still a few important events before that though.
Dude thank you for the detailed research and this amazing animation with structred story telling. Jeep up the Great work!
Thank you very much.
This is the best and most detailed series of videos I've seen on Hannibal's campaign. Keep it up!
Thank you kindly sir. I'm a big Hannibal fanboy, so I'll try to tell his story in as much detail as I can.
thank you, this was the thing, that got me interrested in history, found a book about it when i was 10 and was facinated about Hannibal, because for the most part, we only learn how mighty the romans are in the school. like the american civil war, we only get the gloryfied version or native american wars. i really hate that.
These are really excellent, dude. SUPERB WORK.
Slaughtering the Romans is always my jam.
Eventually the gladius found the belly of fools like you. One more dead el bandito no loss to the world.

YASSSSSSS, so going in the timeline. I can't wait till the next one!
While even being a descendant of italians, the great mind of Hannibal makes me not only respect but also to admire him and Carthage. Such a brilliant general. Love your videos, enjoying a lot while learning. Keep it up!!
Finally, thanks for the upload.
Awesome video, probably the only channel that lays out the battle formation for Trebia that I've seen.
Anyone else struck by the nascent, proto-Cannae set up Hannibal uses here? It sent history nerd chills down my spine...after this battle he was definitely thinking: "if i put my best dudes in the center instead of these useless Gauls I could have destroyed their entire army"
Thank you sir. I too am one of those who think that Trebia was a failed Cannae when it comes to envelopment. This may be because at Trebia Hannibal met the Roman veteran infantry for the first time, and may have underestimated just how deadly they are, so he tested them out by placing the Gauls in the center, not wanting to risk his Iberians and Lybians.
That would also explain why he didn't try to chase them down after the battle was over. It must've been a sight to see the legionaries mauling his Gallic infantry without taking many losses, and then they calmly retire back across the river in battle formation. No wonder he didn't try chasing them down.
I'm not sure what you mean, didn't Hannibal put his gauls in the center during Cannae? Hannibal really liked having strong wings and weak flanks. At Trasimene Hannibal put his elites on the road to block the Romans and they were pushed back.
@@Hugo-bl8ux You are right, but he mixed his Iberians, which were amongst his best troops, in there as well, not to mention he took up position in the center with his retinue.
@@BoxStudioExecutive cause they are more of nomadic not used to even seeing ice streagy doesn't fix all stuff

Very well made video. I watched the other parts many weeks ago and forgot some details, so I was confused at the beginning and had to search for the previous video (because you didn't provide the links) and watch the 2nd half. I would suggest to start the video with a short summary of how things reached that moment and post links to the previous parts. It's good practice to include links to your other videos, it gets you more views and afaik improves the rankings.
Hm, good point. I'll see about adding links in the description. Nothing like good negative-constructive feedback. Thank you very much.
Another awesome video, you guys genuinely deserve more views and subscribers for the quality of your videos. Why topic are you planning next?

Agreed. History of North Africa is impressive, to say the least.
His ability to control such a diverse group of people seemingly moving them around like pieces on a chess board make him the greatest commander of the ancient world.

Excellent work as always 😊
Been waiting for this
Hannibal Tactics:
Step 1: Have superior Cavalry
Step 2: Roman Commanders are Cadorna level idiots
Step 3: Profit
Haha, well it's not that simple though. But I see what you did there :)
Well to be fair, in all 3 Hannibal's Major victories in Italy it's equal measure his merit and the enemy commander big blunder, (Like not scouting ahead or accepting blinddly to fight on a open terrain and charge vs a proven superior cavalry)
Quinto Flavio Massimo was a good general and won on the strategic level.
Not saying Hannibal wasn't one of the best generals in history (you have to take advantage of the enemy mistakes and make him do them) but his opposition was very poor
Step 4: Get rekt twice by Scipio
Step 5 : Get banished by Carthaginian Counsel
I waited too much time for this episode, it was worth it.
