Finally worked up the snare part to about this speed and it’s super fun to play! I’ve been practicing with this recording and it’s nice to have the melody of the fifes to go with my playing lol, thanks for posting this!
Saw you guys playing at Greenfield village both Sunday and Monday morning, thought it was awesome! Rudimental stuff like this is how I first got into playing at all.
Tom, the version of the melody we play is titled "Downfall of Paris", as listed in Bruce and Emmett's Drummers' and Fifers' Guide 1862, page 44. As we are a Civil War period fife and drum corps, it is titled such. If you would like to read a detailed history of the melody, here is a good link: robinengelman.com/2011/10/28/le-carillon-national-ah-ca-ira-and-the-downfall-of-paris/
Sam, in this video we are, and most of the drums have plastic heads. We have now switched to more authentic drums which feature 1/8" steambent shells, hand drilled counter hoops, proper strainers, calfskin batter heads, goatskin bottom heads, oil varnished shells, and hand painted eagle motifs based on an original in my collection. They were custom made by myself using some parts from Cooperman. They are a great company and I would recommend them to anyone!
That was perfect, HOLY COW !

Deric, glad you enjoyed the video! If you live close, contact us about playing.

I don't think there's a single song with a better name.

Yea!!!!
The video would be good if the person to the right did't stick his legs into the picture.
Hahaha We can only control so much during a performance!
Are they using Cooperman drums?
