I thought I knew a few, but some of these were great. Thanks as always. Love your channel! I've learned more in 4 days here than I did in an entire semester of Vid Production class in college.
That s so cool to hear! So happy to help! 👍🙏😎
Like you, I use a trackpad. I edit two-handed, meaning that my right hand is on the trackpad and my left hand is punching keyboard shortcuts. On my trackpad, two-finger drag moves the timeline back and forth quickly. A shortcut that you will use a lot if you try it is Option-R and Shift R. Select a clip in the timeline and select its replacement in the Browser. Option-R replaces the clip on the timeline while retaining the timeline length (same as Replace from Start). Shift-R replaces but uses the length of the Browser selection (same as Replace). Boy, does that speed me up! And, it really impresses any Premiere editors!. When I use 'M' for a marker I ususally do a double-M, meaning I press M twice to place the Marker and open it for typing in a comment. Once a few markers are in, I open the Index and list only Markers and they all are clearly commented as to what they are marking. Click on any one to jump to its location. Using Control-(plus or minus) on a selected clip does raise or lower that clips volume but it helps to know each tap is one db of volume. So, if you're matching loudness of a clip that is, say, +6db, then six taps of Control + will raise a default level of zero up to +6. Also know that holding the Command key wile dragging the audio level 'gears down' the change so you can more easily drag to a certain loudness value. I keep my left fingers hovering over J-K-L most of the time. Yes, L will play and L-L will play at double speed, but L will double the speed every time you press it fo even much faster playback. J will do the same thing for reverse speed. I like Command-B to blade. That will blade either the Primary Storyline if nothing is selected, or anything else as long as its selected. Add the Shift key, Shift-CMD-B and that will blade everything at the playhead. Yes, CTL-T puts a basic title up but did you know you can change that default title to whatever you want? Also, did you know that you can set CMD-E to export to a default output setting? I have many export settings set up but I primarily use only one, so look at the window that shows you all of them and right-click on one and make it the default. Edit. Cmd-E to export to the default setting.
Thanks Don! Some great shortcuts here, even a few I didn’t know about! Thanks for taking the time to watch and share your process 🙌👍👌
Great video, great help. Thank you much)))
Thanks Robert 👍🙏😎
Thank you so much for this video 😍☝
Super helpful. Thanks man.
Glad it helped!
Awesome video mate great stuff
Thanks Zoe! 👍🙏😎
Lots of shortcuts I didn’t know! J K L are really useful. K is pause while J plays backward and L forward. You can ramp up the speed of playback by tapping J or L again and again. K to pause. You can also use K as a shift key. Hold it down then hold L down and the play head advances slowly. Finally, hold down K and tap J or L and the play head moves one image at a time. Use of J K L is very intuitive once you get used to it!
Thanks for this easy to follow vid, so many out there I don’t understand they fly through too fast, I have moved to final cut from iMovie 🥴 it will take some time 👍🏻👍🏻🛠
Thanks for watching! Yes FCPX from iMovie will keep you busy but once you get used to it you will love how much more flexible FCPX is! Happy editing 👍🙏😎
This was so GREAT! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great tutorial! THX!
Awesome! Thanks for watching 👍🙏😎
Thank you so much! Loved the marker one in particular
You are so welcome!
Very helpful. I didn't know about Q W E or volume hotkeys or Transform, i use markers to remind me about more edits required in an area also. It kills me that I didn't know about control T lol. I do use option K heaps to adjust the volume on background music in and out. Defo gonna use some new hot keys! Cheers Will!

I used to use the blade tool a lot but recently I started using the trim tale and trim top shortcuts WAY QUICKER
Cheers for adding Jeff, yep great options for sure! Thanks for watching and happy editing 👍🙏😎
This was incredibly helpful! I thought that I had a good handle on FCPX but after watching this video I do ...lol WOW!
Sweet! Thanks for watching 👍🙏😎
Great video mate! A few shortcuts that I had forgotten about. I’ve recently come back to FCPX after using Premiere for a year or two and to be honest I’ve really missed it haha
Welcome back to Final Cut! Thanks for watching, glad you found it helpful 👍🙏😎💪
Hi Will, Thank you Nice video." alt-[ "was new for me and very helpfull. Shortcuts I also use a lot are: "alt-cmd" and put your cursor on the secondary timeline clip to change connector. "Alt-M "you can now directly fill in marker. "~ "button to disconnect clip to move without the connected clip." alt-W" a black clip on the timeline. "CMD-ALT en arrow key" to lift clip from time line leaving black clip behind.
Oh wow there’s some great ones there that I don’t normally use! Thanks for sharing and for watching 👍🙏💪🙌😎

Thank you ❤️
You’re welcome 😊
Ya..it is helpful.. 🙏
Hey Will. Great to have these shortcuts in one place - the volume one was new to me, so, so useful, thank you! Hope you don't mind a quick question? Is there a way to trim a clip after you've applied a transition? So two clips with a dissolve between them, and you just want to trim one back a little - or extend it? I know you can change the duration of the dissolve, but can't see how to change the clip without deleting the dissolve, changing the clip, then adding it again. Thanks! P
Hi Peter, glad you liked the video and found it helpful. Yes you can adjust clips after adding a transitions, you have to use the small “pause” icons (they are not pause icons but they look a bit them) I tried to link to a gif but UA-cam doesn’t like it so I’m sending you a quick email now 👍
Got it, thanks! That's so useful, one of those silly things that drives you nuts until it's pointed out to you! Thank you!!
That’s super, glad I could help 👍 happy editing 😎👌
Mega helpful, what spec machine you using for FCP, cheers
Hi Aly, thanks for watching! I’m using a mid 2016 MacBook Pro, i7 quad core, 16gb RAM, 512gb SSD
Shortcuts are the way to work
Cheers
100%! thanks for watching 🙏👍😎
HEY man. i am using logi mx master 2s it is so cool for editing in final cut pro. i and set "command+B" "delete" "V" "shift+z" and other shortcuts all in one click with it. use right hand. it is so quickly when i work. and more. i can set many shortcut in every app specially.
This sounds cool, I will have to do some research! 👍🙏😎
Nice tutorial.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for the reply, can you help with this, defo a video needs making on the subject, in iMovie you could do a ken burns sequence by clicking a clip, then adding ken burns, split the clip, click reverse then hold the crop, click ken burns again, reverse to zoom out, easy, cant do this simple action on fcpx doing my head in Please is there an easy way, appreciate your Help
Not sure if I’ve understood exactly but I expect if you add the kenburns and then make it a compound clip, you should then be able to duplicate and reverse to achieve the same thing. Alternatively checkout the free plugin McamRig from MotionVFX. I allows a lot of cool zooms and movements with great control and really easy to use. Hope that helps 👍
how about keyframes, especially in audio track when you want the audio to slowly fade at the end of the video. that task is a pain but i use it all the time
Im yet to find a keyboard shortcut for this, however i tend just drag from the end of the clip to easily create a fade
How can you cut at one point and highlight+delete when you click to right or left ? I've seen it done.
Hi, option+[ cuts a clip and deletes all before the play head, option+] cuts clip and deletes after the play head, I think that’s what you’re after 👍
@@WillChidlow yes thx I figuer it out. Have a good one.
Sick
😎🙏👍👌👊🙌
So damn good...
Thanks Randy! 👍🙏😎
Will Chidlow lol
Hi I've got a question
I have 2 to 3 keyword collection in one event with more than like 100 clips
.but whenever I go from one keyword collection to another and scroll through that collection and came back to previous collection the position will not be the same where I left I need to scroll up/ down again and it cost me a lot of time..is there any command for it...(in premiere pro the scroll bar automatically stays at the position we left before moving in to another keyword collection)
Hope you understand my concern and expecting a solution..it will be mean a lot to me if you help to overcome this issue
thanks
Hey, i dont think there is a solution to this, Ive had a play myself but cant seem to find a work around
616 views only ?? looks like no one is using keyboards any more :D
Pfft I know right! 😂😂😂
That earring looks quite painful.
Lol, nothing compared to the nipple 😂
So helpful. thank you
