KNRM, Terschelling (NL) - Fast sea rescue thanks to customized drying container

To speed up the deployment of the Dutch sea rescue service in Terschelling, ELA Container Engineering (ECE) developed a customized drying container in collaboration with ELA Container Nederland.
The customized steel container is perfectly tailored to the needs of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij (KNRM), the Dutch counterpart to the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service, and is used to dry and store the special clothing of the rescue teams ready for use. A special ventilation system with an axial fan was installed to ventilate the room, which is exposed to high humidity. Equipped with a stainless steel floor covering, extensive insulation and galvanized smooth sheets, the container offers optimal drying conditions.
"Products like this drying container are not available off the shelf," says Meinolf Topphoff, commercial director of ECE. The team for the special container construction took on the challenge and developed the optimal solution together with the customer. "In addition to the actual function of drying rescue suits, the use of weather- and saltwater-resistant materials was crucial," says Topphoff.
"The new drying container was planned and built specifically for our requirements," says Jeroen Wooning, Relationship Manager & Fundraiser at KNRM. The technology installed in the container ensures that it is now ready for use even faster. "Instead of the previous ten minutes, our crews now only need five minutes to get to the emergency site," says Gert-Jan Wijker, Project Manager and Technical Manager at KNRM IJmuiden.
