Green Tree Python Maternal Incubation - Transferring Eggs To Hatch Box - Biak Green Tree Pythons

- 2021's Biak type x Biak type clutch of Green Tree Pythons was maternally incubated. Kira did an excellent job with the clutch, but for some reason she left the nest box about a day before the first baby pipped. I tried putting her back into the nest box but she eventually left again without returning, and after awhile I had noticed the first egg had pipped.
Stress about the unguarded eggs eventually got the better of me and I decided to transfer the egg mass into a hatch box and place it in the incubator to be on the safe side. In hindsight, I don't think it was necessary to transfer them, I think the eggs would have hatched fine. This video shows the process of removing the egg mass from the nest box and transferring it to the hatch box.
I meant to post this last year but I am not great about keeping up with YT uploads, hence the recent flurry of uploads of videos from mid to late 2021. This is a pretty long raw and video so if you don't have the attention span, feel free to skip. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
Thats amazing. Maternal incubation for GTP. -Neal
Grats!
Thank you!
what temperature did you keep the ambient heat in the cage during the maternal incubation and what temp did you register in the nest box? thanks, well done!
The ambient heat in the enclosure was around 81-82F daytime, with a slight drop at night down to 80F. The nest box was roughly the same, but of course the egg surface temperatures were higher, typically 88-89F during most of incubation period, but dropped down around 84F during the last couple of days.
@@snakespirit2651 Do you mean that you had supplementary heating under the nest box or the dam brought the temp up from an ambient of 81-82 all by herself? thank you!!!
I have a female GTP that has hooked up about 6 times and I am waiting for that prelay shed...
@@nfri5108 The dam will generate heat by herself and raise the eggs temperature up to around 88/89F. She will then loosen her coils and begin to allow more airflow to the eggs in the final days.
@@snakespirit2651 thanks so much..I knew she could raise the temp but I had no idea it could be that much! good luck with your future projects and thanks for the reply
@@nfri5108 Thank you and good luck to you as well! Yes it is really impressive how much the female can do to control temperature, such amazing creatures.
