If you watch the movie you won't see the 2x4 unless you find a copy of the original cinema release... It was lost in the conversion to TVs 4:3 aspect ratio that cuts the sides of the image off. Fun Fact: Zappa was a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and approached Best Brains (the production company) to make a movie about a giant Spider, all shot from the spider's point of view. They weren't able to do it for some reason but it led to the idea of the MST3K This Island Earth movie.
Did you notice how tight that production was of discipline and in tune all of the musicians were? There are some orchestral groups that cannot achieve that level my God
Went to my first Zappa concert in Philly. We were told, don't get too stoned because Frank and crew seldom paused between songs and it'll end before you know it. So, pay attention. The songs went smoothly one to the next, it was fantastic.
If you want a REAL Adventure Story from Zappa, try "Billy the Mountain" His wife Ethel is a tree growing off of his shoulder. Hold on for a Zappa story. It is live and a long one.
The trouble with "Billy the Mountain" is that if you didn't grow up in L.A. in the sixties/seventies a lot of the humor makes no sense. True of the whole JABFLA album actually. Fortunately(?) I did grow up in L.A. so I get the references like "where the freeways meet in Downey" and Eddie's "sixty tailors in the back room" and so on... Most of the references come from late night commercials on channel 13 TV - lol,
And the magnificent sequel on Studio Tan. Gregory Peccary runs into Billy and Ethel. Even has the who is making the dark brown clouds ... Lol. It to me, is his last and greatest such composition
The Ikettes on background vocals. I have a video on my channel of excerpts from each song they appear on. Ike demanded Frank only pay them each $40/day. So Frank paid them $40/hour.
@Zolar Czakl Thanks for that much more fully fleshed-out correction. I knew I was on the right track, but the details are even better than I remembered!
The entire rest of this side is fantastic: Son of Orange County/ More Trouble Every Day. The first piece runs seamlessly into the next. It is recommended to listen to them as such.
May sound goofy and odd, but that is one complex, difficult to play, greatly performed pieces of music. There were some excerpts from the studio recording of the song, which I suggest you watch (Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/5-kXTFSswKw/v-deo.html). You'll see Zappa guiding the backup singers and band through the playing of the song. When it's broken-down piece by piece, amazingly complex. Great stuff.
Zappa's production is always top-notch.
One my all time favourite songs.

Napoleon Murphy Brock was the best singer with Zappa. I'm really delighted with Zappa's Bands he was a member of. Best times of Zappa music.
Cheepnis, kitsch, whimsy. Why give it a conceptual existence! Lol
Nice commentary too
Thx!
I love when young cats get buzzed by Mr. Z.
Peace on earth - Thor-knob-you-lax.

The version on Playground Pyschotics is better than the one on JABFLA. It's longer too.
@@tixximmi1 tried that. The Band From LA version is musically more interesting, and much better performed.

In that black and white clip of the monster movie....Lee Van Cleef and Peter Graves !!!

And wouldn't allow them to be credited because he was narrow minded on music
"Snapping off trees like they was banzai ornaments on a tri-wobble landscape"
One of my favorite Z songs! Thanks.
The second part is about how the people in monster movies react to the monster.
And Frunoblulax was a real (non-giant) poodle that Frank Zappa owned.

He is asking the woman he is watching the movie with if she sees the 'cheepnis.'

YOU said it brother, this may seem 'goofy' OK? turn around play it, its very layered and quite beautifully intricate to say the least.
One of my Zappa favorites.
Frunobulax is widely known in Germany as a monster poodle. We have hundreds of thousands of Zappa fans still alive.
It's about Zappa's special kind of humour.
Ah Peter.. 💖
I was skipping school, in 1974 when I first heard this song
when someone does the side to side kind of a no no no headbang, its a good sign
Frank is the man!
So much Zappa, so little time.
We were raised on Zappa music 🎶 brilliant is the word🎉❤
What a great album!
❤
❤🎵
At 3:07 those are Ikettes Linda Sims and Debbie Wilson in Ike Turners Bolic Sound recording the song with Frank and the band.
Frunobulax never was stopped, the devastation was widespread and tragic!
