- Oswestry frivolity: The blind leading the blind
This place is a bit special. I had ridden it once before, about ten years ago with a mate who lived there for a year and remember it being rather steep, a bit scary and a ton of fun. I've been meaning to go back ever since so the previous weekend, went for a walk around there to check it out and was impressed.
I mentioned this to Marc (TheGibMTB), who fancied coming along and passed word on to Dave Jenvey, who was also keen.
What transpired was a day of riding some seriously technical trails, successes, crashes and laughter by the bucketload. We only rode a fraction of what is apparently there so will most definitely be going back.

haha nice edit Jason well done
Cheers Dave. It was such a great day that it was an easy one to make. Looking forward to riding with you again soon 👍
Great vid mate! Made it look easy! GoPro effect in full force on that last section looking down! Looks like an awesome place to ride! 👍
Cheers mate, it’s one hell of a place! The trails are surprisingly technical with rocks where you don’t expect them to be, etc.
I love it there but I always have a sense of trepidation whenever I go 😃
Awesome stuff. You made it look easy.. Bet it's proper tricky that place. Shaun laughing is infectious 😂😂
Cheers mate and yeah, it's a very 'special' place.
Dave's moaning/comments and Shaun's laughter made the day for sure 😂
@@Stopadoodledoo reckon it'll look a bit better 2 years on on the top bit, looked a bit sketchy there with wood lying all over.
Great video guys roll on the next one
Thanks mate, really enjoyed making this one 👍
Brilliant video mate, what a day this was haha, just mental 😂👍
One of the best days I've had this year; great riding and so much fun. Dave's comments on that loamy rocky bit had me in stitches when I watched his footage; no way I was leaving it out.
Man your channel just gets better with every video I watch! Really enjoy the group ride videos. All of them have just been so entertaining. Keep on killing it buddy
Cheers mate. Riding with groups makes it easy to catch good content, so much easier than having to think what to say when riding around the urban trails of Chester on a cheap hardtail, swerving round dog shits and nettles 😃👍
Man you are fast 💨 🤩
Cheers mate, but I don't think I am fast, maybe slightly above your average trail rider but that's all. I'm totally shit at jumping though :D
You know what I still find funny, getting compliments in comments. I'm used to riding with a bunch of proper abusive lads, who would more likely comment with 'Jesus you look old, you shit bastard', if they bothered to comment at all 😂. With them, I wouldn't have it any other way 😃
@@Stopadoodledoo hahaha this is how I feel in rare occasions, but hey looks great on the video . I have never ridden with you really but hopefully this will change this year .
After all the lockdown rides this is something totally different. You seem to be one hell of a rider, I would shit myself at some of that😂😂
Great vid👍
Thanks John. A lot of the features look far worse than they actually are, it's just a case of looking at them and getting the confidence to give them a go. Dave basically said 'fuck that' to all of them when he first saw them and then rode them all really smoothly, no problems at all.
Great video mate, looked challenging through out! Glad the wolf never made an appearance 😂
Thanks mate. I'm glad I never saw the Wolf too; think it's following me around 👍
Trail guide job well done! You almost want to do the same ride again where everyone just rides and knows what's coming! 👍
I'll be honest, I didn't really know where I was going myself half of the time so the others didn't stand a chance. Although I had been before, it was ten years since I'd ridden there and then the previous week, had walked down a couple of them with my (nearly) 5 year old daughter. One run down a couple of them before the others arrived and that was the extent of my knowledge; it really was the blind leading the blind 😂
@@Stopadoodledoo lol 🙈😆
That was a techy trail mate. 12:30 is so steep and loose!
Oh yeah, it's a fun one and keeps you on your toes 😃
Could you give me a pointer on location of these please?? great vid
Cheers mate. It's basically on Racecourse Hill above Os; head south to Candy Wood and you'll see trails galore 👍
Racecourse wood llanforda
@@mylessharples9863 Due west of Oswestry 👍
Some top riding all round there gents. Looked proper "super gnar tech" and no mistaking. When is the new album out lads?
It's definitely not for the faint-hearted; you can tell a lot of it was built by DHers rather than trail builders but as with most things, when you get your head round stuff and believe you can do it, none of it is particularly difficult.
New album should be out soon, and includes a cover of 'Tractors and Goats' by Elton John 😃
@@Stopadoodledoo as you said if someone has built it it must be rideable... it is a mental issue. So many times you see stuff that looks tricky as soon you do it you think.. why did I even question it...problem is I reset that mental approach every time. 🤣
@@Stopadoodledoo PS that's my personal favourite Elton song.
Those trails look like great fun. Would be even better with some landings on that jump line.
It's a fantastic place mate, keeps you on your toes all the time. A couple of lads we met (including the one who had stolen Prince's helmet) told us that the jumps had only been built in the last few weeks. It was a shame they hadn't bothered with landings as it would have made that trail far better.
Good video. There’s loads of flowing trails up there. Rather than cutting down to the jumps, follow the trail to the left.
Thanks Adrian. I'll definitely be heading up there again at some point and plan to explore a lot more; I was kind of limited by not really knowing my way around on this day 👍
.....Excellent vid Jason .....you are some rider ! ......who was the Nerd on the EBike ? . See you soon pal 👍
Cheers Paul, you don't ride too bad yourself mate; you had a go at those crazy steps and the video doesn't really do justice to how grotty they looked in reality. We'll definitely be out again soon 👍
Awesome video looks like you was riding some super technical trails top riding.
Have you got a strava this ride? Would like to have a crack at them trails. Thanks
Thanks, they are pretty techy trails but not stupidly so; they look worse than they are.
As for Strava, I’m on there as Jason Thomas and I’ll be the one in Chester 👍
Candy
Yep, fantastic place to ride; love it there 👍
