Just in case anyone needs this tip: I always place my gel pots (for brows or liner) upside down on a piece of tissue when I'm applying so that it decreases the amount of time that it's exposed to air, thus slowing down the dry out process.
step 1: invest in a mac 263 brush, or any very fine, thin slanted liner brush. it's easier to work with a thin line first and thicken, than it is to begin with a thick brush. Recently got the loreal eyeliner in this vid, used it with the stock brush, GARBAGE. used it with my 263, it's heaven. brushes make a difference! I don't think it's fair to compare products when using different brushes, but otherwise nice video :)
YES! The brush can make all the difference! I haven't tried any MAC liner brushes, but I have a review on some of the liner brushes that i have in a separate video ❤
If every makeup youtuber had done reviews like this, they'd probably still have audience trust. This was great. The wear-test is something I can never find. Everyone just gets a buttload freebie PR packages, they put the products on, hype them up, then immediately take them off. That's not useful for discerning audience when it comes to finding products that actually wear well. This is actually one of the best makeup reviews I have ever seen. Probably the best.
What a great review of pot liners! The fact that you included high end and drugstore was so unique. I appreciate you showing us how they applied, as well. Thanks so much for taking the time to test all of these products and post your findings. 😍
I used to love gel liner so I wanted to find a good one to try using it again. This video is 3 years old and still the best most informative video I've found
This is really a life-saving (money-saving) video! I always feel painful about my panda eyes after applying some "water-proved" or "long-lasting" eyeliners. Got some very practical advices :) I am so surprised when I only see around two hundred of likes below the video. This review video should get at least thousands of likes (and thunders of applauses!)
I’m in love with how HELPFUL this video was!!!! I know you filmed this some time ago but omg you’ve got a subscriber for life in me!!!! Makeup & beauty has saved my life and warded off deep depression this year and I’m so extremely thankful 🙏🏽💖
Some of these are discontinued but have you tried ELF cream eyeliner? It’s very soft but very black. I think the brown one compares to Clinique gel liner and it’s really good.
So I didn't watch the video in it'd entirety earlier and I went to Ulta just to see what they'd recommend for what I was looking for and they told me to try the Stila and I'm so glad I got it! Finished watching the video to see what you thought, glad it was the winner!!
I've been trying to obtain the BEST black gel liner for like the past week!!! This really helps after several returns, I have decided on the STILA!!! ✌🏽💕🦋
What color in the Mac did you get.? Is it the soft black ok not black enough for me I know they have another gel pot…. What’s the best dark black affordable gel pot liner.? I usually use the stilia liquid pen.
I dont know about the loreal but the maybelline is the best! Love it! It's so black, it's smudge proof and I actually like the brush. Idk how you get anymore pigmented than the maybelline
New subscriber here. Starlet, did you ever end up doing a gel liner brush review?? If so can you message me the title... or... have you discovered the best one?? Oh and FYI, I work at Ulta. Everyone needs to know that the less popular brands have OLD stock that sits in the warehouse for a year, and then it gets shipped to the retail store and probably sits in the back in overstock for six months, and THEN it moves to the floor. If it is not a big seller, it may sit on the shelf for a year. Be aware that the long time since production and packaging will definitely impact the product’s quality and performance.
Hello. I enjoyed watching your video. I bought the maybelline gel liner today. They’ve changed the brush and new formula apparently. Have you tried it recently? Xx
Hi this video is really thorough! I am curious: btwn mabelline and essence, which one you like better and why? i hv the mabelline one and it lasted me for 2 years. It does transfer and smudge. i am considering getting the essence one. i hv tried their eyeliner pencil! love it!
I haven't really used either one much after this video, but I've used the Maybelline one more often so I'm more familiar with it... to be honest the Stila one is the only one I would use again if I used a gel liner... I really only use a felt tip pen when I do liner😀
I love the Tartist eye liner, best I’ve ever had but it squirts out to much so I’d use a left over pot and squirt it all out the first time. Hate the brush. But apart from all that I wish more eyeliners came at a looser disposal because Tartist can be hard to come by
Can you recommend a good eye makeup remover? Your beautiful eyes looks so fresh and clean before you apply your makeup- and I would love to know how you remove your eye makeup at the end of the day! P.s. your videos are AWESOME!❤
@@Everydaystarlet Thank you so much for sharing your coconut oil makeup removal tip! And for responding so quickly to my question! I subscribed as soon as I watched your first video- thanks for sharing your great info with us all!!!
Thanks for watching... I haven't tried them. I tend to stick with products that I can get at Ulta, Sephora, or a major department store. I get lazy with ordering from individual brands ;)
Hi. Enjoyed your review of gel eyeliners and agree with your best choices. Right now, I am loving the Bobbi Brown gels, but would also try some of the colors in the Maybelline - just to see! This is off subject, cut what color lipstick are you wearing? So pretty. \
I appreciate your coverage of the gel liners. I usually use pencils but wanting to lean towards gel liner...maybe. I do have a question............Do you put anything on the bottom? Liner? Mascara? Nothing? I usually put a little liner on the bottom but it always ends up smudging. Ugh.
Do you mean the bottom lash line? I don't always put anything there, but sometimes I'll use a small flat brush and put a little powder shadow on my lower lash line... it's softer than liner. I sometimes use mascara on my bottom lashes (I actually have a review comparing 2 bottom lash mascaras)... but for everyday I usually forget😀
Kathy Sica try the Essence Extreme Lasting Eye Pencil. I almost always wear liner on my bottom water line, plus I work in the heat a lot, and it's the only one that doesn't smudge on me (and lasts all day)! My eyes tend to get really red with waterproof formulas normally but this one just works perfect for me. It's super inexpensive also, like $3.
I LOOOOVE THE Tartiest gel liner but that tube it comes in is the worst!!! The gel will harden inside of the tube so you have to squeeze and sometimes it will all jump out at you at once and it wasted a lot of my product.
Do you recommend gel liner or liquid liner for someone who isnt super experienced with liner? I also have hooded eyes. Im just not a pro at make up but i would say im better than average.
I recommend starting with a pen liner. It’s much easier to work with. Even now that I’m super comfortable I still use a pen liner. I have a review on those. My favorite is the Stila Stay All Day
I love ur makeup look in this vide... please, could you make us a complete list of all the products u used here - atleast the eye shadow, lipwear, blush?? Thank you in advance.
Hi Sarah! My first vid of yours, and this review has been much more helpful than others, but didn't feel like 30 mins lol. From what I saw, the Bobbi Brown one smudged less than the Stilla. I know the UD was starkly different to the Stilla, but how would you compare the BB one to it specifically?
Thanks so much! I don't know if there is a huge difference, but the Stila is the only one I've reached for since this video... I do tend to prefer pen liners for their ease and convenience, so I don't use any of these regularly. I hope that answered your question❤❤❤
I decided to just order it the inglot gel other day.. I am the queen of bad liner, because nothing stays put on me. I'm still willing to think there is my holy grail product out there somewhere! Thanks for the reply. :)
I went to Ulta and asked the salesperson what a good gel liner would be and she directed me to the Stila smudge pot. I took it no hesitation and my first apply was so smooth and beautiful, as I bought it with a great brush. Team Stila all the way!!!
This video helped me if I should try pot and gel eyeliners! So I guess for me those are gonna give me extra work 😩😩. Btw, is it just me or there's something about your eyebrow liner that's ermmm... 😐🤔
Awesome video beautiful, you’ve done a thorough job on testing all these gel liners, I don’t think you did the Morphe gel liner but I’d just try the ones that you’ve recommended. Thanks for sharing your experience with us , Cheers 🥂
I actually haven't tried any Morphe makeup that I know of. I think it's available now at Ulta, but I don't think it was when I made this video and I don't tend to go for brands that aren't easily found in a Sephora or Ulta

I use MAC 266 brush and I've had it for over 10 years. Some fraying but keeping them cleaned and conditioned often helps.
What you need is a 1/8 angled brush from an art store. Best for applying eyeliner.
