    Before you know how to drill you need to know what size drill bit to use. When predrilling a hole for a screw in woodworking an easy rule of thumb on picking the right size drill bit is to line up the screw and the drill bit. You want the drill bit to be the same size as the shaft of the screw. When drilling this creates enough space for the screw to go in to the wood without splitting and the hole is not to big. The threads of the screw can still dig in to the wood and grab on for a tight and solid joint. This is an easy and quick tip for beginner woodworkers and DIYers on pre drilling their holes to avoid splitting. Something that you can easily do to help pick the right drill bit size each time you drill a hole.

    Psalms 23: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
    Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me...
    Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

    That better than “get one smaller than the screw” method I was taught. It was always a guess if I got it too small or possible close to being too big

    Thank you!! Is there any rule of thumb for finding the right size anchor for a particular bolt or screw? 🤔

    • @Z23go
      @Z23go  2 роки тому +1

      That one is a little trickier. With plastic wall anchors you mainly want the bolt or screw to fill around 3/4 the opening on the end of the anchor. If I'm not for sure, before putting the plug in the wall I will screw the screw partially into it and make sure it bites into the plastic securely and pushes the "wings" out on it.
