Haha! Props for keeping a straight face while saying "If it sounds bad, than I guess the reason is in the mirror. Not in the amp." I love it. So much stupid drama about this amp. I think you nailed it with that sentence.
It’s a killer amp! …I’ve had mine since the original launch. I have the El34 & the stealth 50w heads and I still find myself playing this amp more. Hell I have the 6505+ as well so take that for what ya will. Great video as always Euge! 🤘🏼
I’m with you on that. I got a 100w Stealth 6L6 after my Iconic expecting the Stealth to slaughter the Iconic but honestly I only really like the blue channel on the Stealth. And it really just isn’t as fun as the iconic. I don’t know how else to put it. The Iconic just has more attitude or character, the Stealth is a little sterile. The 50w el34 I like as much as the Iconic, they’re both super fun amps to play for different reasons. I guess it just goes to show, play it yourself and trust your ears/hands. The internet would have me believe the 6L6 stealth would wipe the floor with the Iconic but they’re just two totally different amps and I simply prefer the Iconic for playing more traditional metal and lead playing.
Cool video … the Iconic sounds awesome. Need to get one ! Been putting it off cause I always thought it was overkill for Home amp. Will have to get an attenuator …. Screw it !!!
Euge, you are outrageously good on that. I can tell you pour your heart into the riffs. No need for solid state pedal boosters on the Iconic because James included it altogether with that hybrid design. But add sd1 anyways if you want.
I liked that what u said about if you don't like it the reason is probly in the mirror not the amp....I was cracking up man!.... As always a kick ass riff in the song man
Sounds amazing Euge. I have the Iconic head and recently paired it with a EVH stealth 2x12 and it sounds unreal. All the feel of the original with more versatility. I encourage people to try this amp with there favorite Cabinet. Thanks for the videos!
Your intro song was killer! Tight playing as usual. I liked the wah solo too. The JP wah is really good. I almost bought one, but I grabbed a Morley 20/20 Bad Horsie instead because it was on-sale. I really like the Morley wah, so I am happy. I tried asking Jim Brown about the "Burn" switch on the Iconic amp, but he wouldn't really tell me much about it. I suspected it was a TS808 circuit built-in to the pre-amp section. But he wouldn't tell me. LoL! I like what you said at the end: if it sounds bad, don't look at the amp, look in the mirror! LoL! So true. If YOU are playing it, it always sounds awesome.

As a player and listener of more modern music in the genres of hardcore and thrash that thinks that alot of classic thrash and “modern metal” sounds sort of weak, i would like to say I appreciate your style of riffing. Sounds mean and aggressive, and ACTUALLY PISSED OF. Im open minded as much as im closed minded. To me, metal needs to sound angry. If it only sounds technical and impressive, i tend to not CARE for it. It doesnt do anything for me. I need metal to be angry and aggressive and Im so happy to see a wise guitar player that still puts so much “ughhhh” into his riffs. Thank you!!! The only metal band that i listen to and love because they sound COOL is Iron Maiden and Van Halen. Otherwise i need angry hard riffing
I rock my Peavey 5150 original first Combo version and that’s plenty for me. I do wish I had just a head, but the combo on top of my straight 4x4 5150 cab is good. Wife says it’s too loud. 🤣🤷♂️🤘
It’s nice that we have budget options for classic metal sounds. I would consider the new 5150 Iconic as my primary 6L6 amp along with the Engl Fireball 100 for budget amps.
Its a great amp, sounds very close to the OG with some good features and a good price, but of still, OG crushes 🤘 more in your face palm mutes melter 🔥

Besides, everyone knows there's a ton of bullshitters online. We're hear to watch this great player compare two amps and give his opinion on them, nothing more. The end...
I prefer regular over iconic in this video, but differences are subtle and in a band situation nobody can distinguish between them, i think. I bought iconic combo 40 watt today and i am soooooo happy with it :-)
Thanks for the video, i'm playing on plugins with 5150 base, never heard this head live, especiaally so detail, but i love this sound, amazing combination middle and high, bright and viscous sand. Probably in the states that thing easy find, but even i can find and buy it- i'm never will play at home, never.
great playing Euge, I have been looking at those and wow that sounds pretty amazing price. think I would rather have a Marshall 1987x or a JTM 45, just my personal sound style. I really don’t understand all the butthurt on the internet about the iconic. Yes, it can do metal just as awesome as the brown sound. It’s fine to prefer the older 5150 tone, but if you can’t make the iconic sound good, you don’t know how to dial in an amp and guitar.
Like I said in the video: the reason is usually in the mirror, not in the amp ’cos a good player sounds good no matter the gear and a bad player sounds…well 😎
Man the original is just so heavy, its got something going on, its so much more intense, creamier, more complex mid stuff, yet, less high end grit than the Iconic, IDK, what it is but the Iconic has something different with the high end. Similar, but not quite, the Iconic is just a different sounding amp to me. I’ve gotten into some arguments about it, guys saying it sounds exactly the same but they sound different to me. That being said the Iconic still sounds fine to me I have no shade to throw at it, but for my preference if I had to choose it would be the original design.
Great review Euge! Do you think using the 1/4 power switch in the iconic will allow a good bedroom level metal tone? Asking since I live in apartment. Thank you!!
Great demo Euge, it sounds very nice! Any reason why you're doing live cab instead of IR? BTW I checked out the new cyhra video as soon as it came out, hilarious video and great song 🙃🤘
Thanks! I really like the cab and the speakers I have on it. And the mics too so why not. At the end of the day a real thing is always a real thing 😎. But I still use Bogren’s IRs if I want something else. The interaction with a real amp & real cab is just something quite special and, in lack of a better word, lively. When done right. IMO the other isn’t better than the other but just a bit different.
With whatever tuning & strings are used the action needs to be set to work on that particular ”set”. I’ve had this guitar in C-standard / Drop-Bb since 2017 but always when I change new strings I adjust any guitar to work the best.
1 question: you seem to be fond of mainly tube amps but they have huge disadvantages (picking up interference, need to be cranked, consume more power, fragile, need to be serviced, heat up, take more space...). Have you not found any transistor amp that does the job?
Their “huge” disadvantages are far outweighed by their tone. No one I know is whining about heat and radio interference. Servicing can be an issue but again it’s outweighed.
@Atte Tanskanen Yup. It can happen but it’s an odd thing to be concerned about or even mention. Happened to me about 5 years ago, but it was actually my ESP’s pickups grabbing the RF signal.
The only disadvantage IMO is that they’re quite heavy and quite unpractical to travel with. But I don’t travel with them but just record and play at my studio so there’s actually no disadvantages. I grew up playing tube amps and I just like them. It’s a bit like driving a real Shelby Mustang or playing a computer game where you’re driving a Shelby Mustang. If you know what to do there’s nothing better than driving with a real thing; amp or a car or whatever. And yes I have driven with a real Shelby Mustang 😎🤟. Oh yeah about transistor amps…nothing comes to mind atm.
I owned an OG 5150 for almost 30 years. Only had to service it one time. One of the tube connections burned out. But that was it and that was after having it for 25 years. Used the same tubes up to that point. I never once had an interference issue either.
Haha! Props for keeping a straight face while saying "If it sounds bad, than I guess the reason is in the mirror. Not in the amp." I love it. So much stupid drama about this amp. I think you nailed it with that sentence.
